It…read moreis a very nice complex in Old Greenbelt within walking distance of Buddy Attick Park and Greenbelt Lake. It is also near the Greenbelt Metro and the Beltway. I love the wooded grounds and the fact that you can see wildlife in the area. There is an outdoor pool which is open in the summer months. It is also a complex that permits pets. Lakeside North is very safe and is near the Greenbelt Police Station. I have experienced few problems with noise or disruption. Residents consist mainly of families, individual professionals, and graduate students. The apartments are spacious, have lots of closet space, and floor-to-ceiling windows. Windows were replaced a few years ago with double-pane windows, which are better for conserving energy. Most units are carpeted but you can also get units with wood laminate flooring. All units have dishwashers and card-operated washer/dryers are in the basements of each building. Maintenance is very responsive to requests for repairs. Probably the best part of living here is the Lakeside North staff. The rental office staff plan events for residents throughout the year, including parties for Mother's Day, Halloween, and a Labor Day barbecue/pool party. They do thoughtful things such as leaving Valentine's/Halloween candies on residents' doors. They also help to publicize community events and volunteer opportunities.

However, what surprised me the most was not only the warm and friendly way that I was welcomed by the entire office staff but, the efficient, knowledgeable, and curtious, manner in which Mr. J. Thomas handled my entire experience, from the ease of my application process to the joy of being handed the keys to my new home. Google maps says it's about 39 minutes to walk (which seems right from my experience). With the direct path they HAVEN'T developed it would be about 10-15 minutes on foot, on a bike? 5 mins tops! What a shame. This is a real shame because they do have a potential direct path to the north of the community that could be developed and connect directly to Greenbelt Station. This is a lovely, but car dependent community. It could be so much more!!

I still take the metro down into DC for work and it only adds about 15 minutes to my commute (I get off at U st.). Some say rent is expensive, but we are paying the same for a 2 bed/2bath as we did for a 1bed/1bath in Adams Morgan. Mall with Target, Giant, Staples, CVS, Dunkin Donuts, and Starbucks across the street. Movie theater and restaurants are walking distance and only a short drive to the arts district with Busboys and Poets, Thai food, Elevation burger, Chipotle, Yes Organic and much more. The handle to the door to the garage always breaks, and there's not an easy way to get to the garage. The carpet was ripped to shreds when we moved in. We hear loud noises whenever ANY neighbor flushes the toilet. That's just a small part of it. The location is decent, but Route 1 traffic is VERY heavy. Get used to sirens, etc. Mostly the other residents are students, or young professionals and keep to themselves. However, some are plain trashy (see pic of note left on my car after accidentally parking in a reserved spot my first week here, they aren't well marked spots). People drive like wild banshees in the garage and then blast music at the gym that can be heard all the way into apartments down the hall. At all hours folks drop heavy weights. Annoying if you're on that floor. There are also VERY wild parties in the common area that residents rent. There is also an issue since there's no concierge and after 6 the leasing office is gone. Packages are hard to get delivered, including meal delivery services (First World Problems, I know). For the price you pay, the construction should be a lot better

Not to mention, the housing market and interest rates were terrible after the pandemic. Over the past few years, I've had maintenance issues that would take a while to be resolved, not to mention most of the buildings have pest control issues and constant black mold issues. Furthermore, the property has a very high turnover of staff members; maintenance staff members are underpaid and overworked; and front office members are very unprofessional. The office is like a ghetto central station. Over the past year, the property has evolved with more violence occurring. There were 3 shootings in the summer of 2024, and they never sent out awareness letters or posted the occurrences in the monthly newsletters. It's really nothing to hear gunshots on the property near the pool area, and when you call the police, they're not in a rush to come. One night there was a domestic issue and the woman was being badly abused in the apartment, and the police never showed. Not to mention, on-call patrol leaves at 1 am. Look, if you have no other option, don't stay here long. Don't allow yourself to become complacent. Save your coins, straighten up your credit, find a real estate agent, and buy your own home!! There are so many grant programs offering down payment funds, not to mention you can also buy a home with section 8, even though there is a fine print in their criteria.

When I came back the space was inaccessible and I have had to park far away, which is dangerous for me, even with my cane, because I could fall. This is preventing me from leaving my apartment to do things like get groceries. I have called the office 4 times and left messages with 3 different people. Each person I talk to is polite and serves as a fantastic barrier for Lerner taking any accountability for making positive change happen. I have also filed an urgent maintenance request in my portal to have them clear the snow. Lerner is being completely dismissive and unresponsive. This feels like a major ADA violation, with clear discrimination against individuals with disabilities. This is just icing on the cake from when my dishwasher was broken and it took around 3 months to fix. In short, do not live here if you have a maintenance problem that you need to be solved. Definitely don't live here if you're disabled like me. Not worth the energy you need to put in to get what you're paying for.

Neighbourhood is ghetto and that's the type of people you get. Cars wheels get stolen. Your packages get stolen. Overall a bad place to live. Oh and the management does nothing if you place a complaint. They will just send a paper notice! So if you want to break the rules, gladly come here and do so! Did I mention that you also get a lot of spam in the mail box? This place is trash, not worth living.
