(HE IS A CONMEN) I have amazing Chinese antiques, some of which are from the 11th.C Ming dynasty and and older, porcelain & clay pottery. I know what I have and the value they hold. He tried telling me that these items aren't real. He started to twist the narrative around, and pretty much BS me from the start! I wasn't having it.. I also showed him a pair of French lithographs from 17thC. Again he said these were fake, but good copies. What does that mean!! lol When I went to show him the certificate of authenticity of most of my items, he said..... Ready? ANYONE CAN FAKE COPIES OF AUTHENTICITY. My brain blew up with great anger, you could see smoke coming out of my ears. Mind you!!! The lithographs certificates were appraised in 1972 from a well respected company in NYC, ( no longer there) and!!! The paper was on the yellow side, showing age, and he still said they were fake. I forgot to mention this, before I showed him proof of authenticity he wanted to buy everything I showed him for a few hundred dollars. What the heck! Is this guy for real! He doesn't even know anything about antiques, rugs, furniture Are you kidding me!! That when I showed proof. He continued to try and tell me BS. I wasn't haven it!!! I hope you folks don't get caught up with this conmen. Good luck! And be wise.

Again, these things are likely to go into someone's private collection, possibly to never be seen again, so you shouldn't pass up a chance to see something really special.

Hmmm... how to review an auction house? The ambiance is mostly driven by the lots on display for…read morewhatever the upcoming auction is... The prices are set not by management, but by free market forces... There are no "secret finds" because all lots are publicly visible for days before being sold... So, how about a description of what Swann does? They hold auctions of art prints, ranging from old masters to contemporary art. They also auction books, autographs, and maps. And they're good at it. Their experts are knowledgeable. Their catalog descriptions are generally accurate. Post-auction, the lots are professionally packed either for delivery or for on-site pick-up. I've only purchased, never sold, anything through Swann, so I can't directly speak to that side of the business. I do pay attention to the market for modern and contemporary prints and it seems that Swann is realizing good prices for their sellers. For somebody looking to purchase, I would say, do your homework, know what you want and what a reasonable price would be. And if you find it on the block at Swann, be comfortable in the knowledge that your dealings with the auction house will be smooth and professional.

We walked around the main floor, upstairs and the basement to look at the very expensive art- Whether it was Jeff Koons, Picasso, Twombly, Monet etc. it was fun trying to guess the price of the art. My 11 year old got yelled at by the bird because he said he touched the paintings twice. It totally freaked my kid out. The auction house has enough art that we were comfortable walking around for an hour which was perfect for my son. Told my son to take pictures of the art that he liked- That seemed to help him pass the time.
