A typical two storey old country pub, quite plain from the outside, standard front bar, standard pub kitchen/menu, standard gaming room. So I was either brave or easily fooled by the pictures of promised accommodation for a 2 day stay during the coldest weekend of the year when I made the online booking through www.matthewshotels.com.au. I needed something warm, comfortable and roomy enough for 2 adults & 2 kids, central, with a kitchen/ensuite, and somewhat updated. It was exactly what I got. The upstairs accommodation comprises just 3 separate rooms all with their own bathrooms so no shared wet areas as is common in old pubs. All 3 are different and only ours caters for 4 people. During our stay the other 2 rooms were empty so we had the floor to ourselves. The main entry below is locked giving extra privacy and security. There is a large well equipped kitchen available for guests, well stocked including basic breakfast provisions, which along with room fridge contents, is part of your room rate. They don't ask you to clean up, which we did anyway, and in room WI-FI is complementary (the latter is rare as hens teeth). Both the room and the ensuite were large and clean and reasonably modern. The heating worked okay, albeit slow to warm up a large room, and the kids beds were simple roll-outs. We ate elsewhere but the pub menu looked pretty good and I'm annoyed we didn't give them a try given we stayed there. At $190 per night the room wasn't cheap but given the location and stated inclusions it was actually a reasonable rate. It impressed me enough for a high 4 stars and I would highly recommend the Park Hotel to anyone. read more
