Barefoot Yoga - Yoga Retreat to Lake Lure September 2021

There's just something about Masie. The way she talks to students, the way she grows new teachers,…read morethe way she sets up the space. It's not like any other yoga studio. The space: Absent are the mirrors at other studios that tempt you to look at your body and compare it to others; in their place is the warm wood of the beautiful old space, and the calming tree and drishti painted on the walls. Masie and her staff are the ones to correct your alignment with a word or gentle touch. That way you stay focused on the practice and don't get ripped away by the outside world. The space also has a bathroom and changing room, and they offer massage in house. It feels like coming to someone's home and having a communal experience with the instructor and the other students. The classes: All levels and some more challenging classes. Masie is always learning new elements and new practices. Her curiosity is infectious, but somehow she never makes you feel foolish or intimidated because you don't know something. Her instructors are obviously chosen for what new ideas they bring as well, or a capacity to receive new ideas. You can pick up some Tai chi and Yoga Nidra among many other things in the yoga and other classes. One of my favorite was a class called moon flow where she put together a variety of lunar poses and made certain "Yin" tweaks to postures (like looking down instead of up, which is yang). It was such a little change that made the practice seem new and fresh and slightly spiritual. The instructors: Masie is obviously the center of this universe. Her radiance draws you in and sustains you throughout classes. She is thoughtful without being stoic, loving without being insipid, and firm without being judgmental. The teachers that work for her obviously all feel it too, and everyone she hires seems to pick up at least part of what makes her such a great teacher. She completely changed my outlook on yoga because of her wholistic approach. The studio somehow manages to be genuinely inspiring instead of a collection of fitness models spouting a string of platitudes like so many other places. Some of her instructors are very experienced, and some are homegrown by Masie. All of them share this mindset of a whole mind-body-spirit practice that is never too much of any one good thing. I used to come here after work, and I too have arrived too late for class. I was disappointed but it's best for everyone - I needed those few minutes before beginning to unwind and get ready. There were times I've been so exhausted from the day that the practice would take me straight from the helter skelter into relaxed bliss. Don't skip coming to class. Leave early. Talk to the other students and the instructor. Be open and friendly before class. Learn about yoga and yourself. Did I mention there was amazing relaxing retreats to beautiful places like Hawaii and Arizona and North Carolina?

I usually frequent the West Ashley location, but it is only a few months old so it's not yet on Yelp. Emily Valentine teaches core vinyasa on Sundays, and it is always a great time! She has an amazing playlist and is always motivating and supportive. I always leave feeling like I really worked out my whole body and I am ALWAYS sore the next few days, but it's a good feeling because I know I worked hard in Emily's class! I also highly recommend their assisted deep stretch class. It's very relaxing and it feels so good to stretch and take your mind off of everything going on. The studio spaces are always clean and well taken care of. There's only been a couple times where a class was really crowded, but we always make it work!

This is the noisiest yoga studio that could possibly exist. Why? Why do you do this to guests?…read more We entered the lobby to cocktail-party level chitchat, which didn't seem to phase anyone but my friend and me. Nice Staff showed us to lockers. All that could have been ok if the class had been ... enjoyable enough to do. Why did the teacher have a headpiece for screaming instructions, when there is no way the room wouldn't be covered just fine by her voice. I tried for about fifteen minutes, trying to follow her sometimes muted screaming by looking around me. I gave up and went to the front desk where they kindly said this was normal and offered me a cup of earplugs to pick from. I took them and used them for about three minutes when I gave up. The place purposefully makes it so loud that they have odes of earplugs in a cute little jar on the counter. That's just messed up. I usually do vinyasa flow, my friend does Bikram and neither of us really knew what this class was. Worst $30 one a class pass ever.

Erin is a knowing, accepting and highly compassionate person. Treatment is peaceful and relaxing, yet highly effective. After the first session my body and mind felt lighter. A few days after I noticed myself thinking different thoughts and seeking out things in my life that were more spiritually fulfilling. I started turning down all the external noise and listening to my internal voice. I found myself thinking of dreams long ago put on a shelf and taking action. I was able to clearly see where I needed to draw boundaries and put them in place in a calm self affirming manner. I was able to prioritize what is important in my life and take action to make that happen. In addition, people that I come across in my daily life started noticing the positive external changes created by the internal shift that Erin's healing helped me manifest. My treatments have opened me up to looking at my future with hope and happiness and anticipation of dreams coming true. As a healer Erin left me with tools to continue moving forward and healing myself, but when I get stuck it is good to know that I can return for treatment to continue moving myself towards my happiness and my dreams. She is indeed the real deal

Absolutely love this yoga studio! And it's convenient for those in the canebay and goose creek area…read moretoo! The staff is so kind and friendly. They truly want to know their clients. They also limit their class sizes right now due to covid and try to keep you spaced out. They also are hands off due to covid. But if you consent they will have you and the instructor wear your mask while hands on (they hand sanitizer before touching you). So I like that they are taking precautions to keep you safe. They offer a variety of classes and times that fit any persons working schedule. They also sanitize between each class as well. Lastly, they currently offer a 30 day unlimited trial for $30. Which is an amazing deal if you want to give them a try.

I enjoyed the higher temperature setting for some classes and appreciated Carol Ann checking-in on me or seeing if there were any areas I needed work on. The thoughtful gifts like a sticker or stone with wise words at the end really made my day feel more at peace. There's many benefits with yoga and this studio is accepting and welcoming of all skill levels.
