The best part of staying at the hotel is that you get full access to the club, including the gym, pool, locker rooms, spa, sauna, and Jacuzzi. I used the locker room, sauna, and Jacuzzi and really enjoyed all of it. Very nice facilities and definitely the part of the experience that makes staying here different from a normal hotel. The locker room was a little confusing as a first-timer. I had no idea where I was supposed to get a locker or exactly how everything worked, and I happened to arrive at a very busy time. There seemed to be some assumed etiquette that everyone else already understood. A 30-second explanation at hotel check-in would go a long way. The hotel room itself was incredibly clean. Like, noticeably clean. Honestly cleaner than a lot of Marriott properties I've stayed at recently. Beyond that, though, the room is pretty no-frills. Mine was right near the elevator, so it was noisy, and despite being inside this grand historic athletic club, the actual hotel room experience somehow gives a little bit of motel energy. Clean motel energy, but still. Both the hotel staff and restaurant staff were very nice throughout my stay. For dinner I went to Invention, the club's lounge-style restaurant. Really nice atmosphere and a good place to hang out without having to leave the building. I ordered the steak frites and asparagus, plus a cocktail called Respect Your Elders, made with Buffalo Trace bourbon, St-Germain, Amaro Montenegro, and Angostura. Pretty good. Basically what would happen if an Old Fashioned developed a sweeter, slightly more herbal personality. I also had a Sangiovese, which really hit the spot after my recent trip to Italy. And then pecan pie for dessert. Yum. No notes. The steak came out a little more cooked than I would have preferred, but everything was very flavorful. For dinner entertainment, I happened to be sitting next to a couple on what appeared to be an exceptionally awkward first date. No reservation required for that show. The next morning I went to Famous Players coffee shop for breakfast. I had the California breakfast with eggs, avocado, and bacon, plus a latte. Solid breakfast, and more importantly, it was a nice place to wake up, open the laptop, and get some work done over coffee. I also appreciated the photos of USC football players on the walls. Fight On! Overall, I'm glad I stayed here. As a pure hotel, I probably wouldn't go out of my way for the rooms alone. But as a hotel attached to a historic athletic club where you can work out, swim, sauna, soak in the Jacuzzi, eat, drink, get breakfast, and basically spend your entire stay without leaving the building, it's a pretty unique experience. And as someone who had been considering membership, staying overnight was actually a great way to see what the club is really like.

But it now caters to a younger crowd and has substantial co-working space. I've certain found more members using the facilities but also discovered quite a bit of new programmings like the Pilates classes, mahjong club, live jazz performances and movie nights. I was not really sure about the change at the beginning but I am now fully embracing the new LAAC. Many of the staff and members have been here for a long time and it is nice to be greeted by familiar faces when coming to the club. The restaurants are pretty decent. Love to top my salad with a nice piece of salmon after workout at the Famous Players or have a tasty glass of scotch while enjoying the live jazz performance at the Invention. The sports bar Duke's has great happy hours and fun monthly evening karaoke or chess club meetings. The only thing I complain about is the need for shock absorbance and insulation of the noise or moving the weight station. The northwest corner of the Famous Players near Olive Street shakes every time the weightlifters drop their weights, which is very annoying and distracting for the diners. Feel like the ceiling or floor is going to drop out. No joke. For now, I would sit as far away from the northwest corner as I possibly can. But hope the club would look into it. I have been trying to sign up for the monthly wine tasting but they are always full. Maybe consider having the event more frequently or scale up? Regardless, I am still exploring all the new offerings at the club and really pleased with the Pilates classes and the live music performances. Although I am apprehensive when I first see the co-working space and the influx of new members, I now appreciate the additional events and classes that come with the new members and hope the club continues to do well and do better as I am here to stay.

I grew up playing soccer at a high level in Europe. My son spent a couple of years at a couple of…read morethe bigger youth soccer clubs in the area, but never felt a part of anything. I always felt that the kids were being used to further the goals of the Coach rather than the other way around. Winning seemed more important than developing players. But he's found a home at HFC. The training is really good. There's a strong sense that the coaches are there to develop players and teams rather than their own paycheck. Kids seem to come first. The facilities are top-knotch, all beautiful turf fields, and our training schedule is very stable (unlike our former clubs, where practice times would get changed frequently) Most importantly for my son, the sense of community is really strong. Parents work together and the Club supports every team. My son is on a team with kids from all over the world and all walks of life and everyone gets along famously. The club puts a high priority on teaching kids how to work together. HFC feels a lot more like the clubs I grew up with, challenging competitive training within a strong community atmosphere. Finally, a club that feels like a club. You should see the smile on my boy's face.

After trying to find other options around LA, I honestly haven't found another indoor court that offers the same combination of reliability, convenience, and quality. The staff makes it easy to reserve the court on a recurring basis, so if you need it regularly, you can lock in the same time slot each week. Parking is also relatively plentiful, especially considering the location. It is more expensive than playing outdoors or renting an indoor court operated by a school or public park. However, the facility is excellent, consistently well maintained, and worth the premium for our league. My only minor complaint is that it can get pretty warm inside during the summer. They seem to run the AC, but it doesn't always keep up once everyone starts playing. You'll also occasionally see NBA or other professional players training here. One of the well-known coaches works out of this facility, so players come for both the coaching and the quality of the court. Of course, it's best not to disturb them during training, but I've occasionally been able to ask for a quick photo afterward. After five years, this is still our go-to court. It's dependable, professionally maintained, and one of the best indoor basketball facilities I've found in the LA area.

It was a really nice background for a sports complex and the fields were clean and well kept. Lastly, there are also trails that go through the sports complex so a good place to park for a hike or a walk with a dog. Lastly, there is a mound that serves as a natural seating location for watching soccer or football games. Before the same fully comes out its quite nice to just sit there and maybe even have a picnic too.

So now everyone's forced to park on nearby streets--which would be fine, except the signage is confusing at best and borderline impossible to interpret at worst. To make things worse, police have suddenly started patrolling the area constantly and handing out tickets like crazy. I've been coming here for years and never seen ticketing like this before--it honestly feels like shooting fish in a barrel. And yes, they'll even ticket you for not curbing your wheels. Between the reduced parking, unclear street rules, and aggressive enforcement, it really feels like a cash grab--and it's frustrating for people who are just trying to show up and play. All that said, I still appreciate having this complex. It's a great spot for both softball and soccer, and when things are running smoothly, it's a really enjoyable place to play. Bottom line: great facility, but right now the parking situation is a mess. Plan ahead... or risk leaving with more than just a loss on the field.

This is something I really can't hold back anymore…read more Mind you, my son is not the best player, nor is he a great setter. But he has heart. He has fight. He has the drive to succeed. He's a winner in my book. Last year, in 2025, our team finished in the Top 9 out of 97 teams at Nationals. We all thought we'd run it back this season. This fall, my son was offered a spot on the team. We were ecstatic and couldn't wait for the season to begin. Then my son told me there were three setters on the roster. I thought, "That's interesting." So I called the coach to clarify. I asked, "So my son will have to compete for the setter position?" That's perfectly fine with us. My son relishes a challenge. He has always shown tenacity, energy, intensity, and motivation. When he has to fight for his position, he rises to the occasion. What came next absolutely shocked me. The coach said, "No, he won't play. Even if he shows his abilities, he will not play." I asked, "What are you saying? You're telling me that no matter how hard my son works in practice, no matter how much he improves, he will not play at all?" He replied, "That's correct. I'm already set on my two setters." Let that sink in. No matter how hard he works... No matter how much he improves... No matter what he proves in practice... He will not play. Then why invite him onto the team? Why ask families to commit thousands of dollars if the decision has already been made? Why give a child hope if there was never going to be an opportunity? The only consolation we were given was this: "If one of the setters gets injured, your son MAY have a chance to play." I've been involved in sports for decades. I've played. I've coached. I even run my own youth basketball league. This is the very first time I've ever heard a coach tell a player, before the season even begins, that no matter how hard they work, they will never have an opportunity. This isn't about my son being guaranteed playing time. This isn't about demanding a starting position. This is about telling a child that effort doesn't matter. That sacrifice doesn't matter. That the extra hours, the missed weekends, the long drives, the money parents spend, the belief that hard work creates opportunity... none of it matters because the decision has already been made. What kind of message are we sending our kids? Imagine your own son hearing those words. Imagine explaining to your child that no matter how hard they train, no matter how much they improve, they were never truly given a chance. That breaks a young athlete. I have tremendous respect for Kenji, Coach Patrick, and many others on the SGV staff. This isn't about them. It's about who we entrust to lead and mentor our children. Coaches are supposed to motivate. They're supposed to inspire. They're supposed to teach kids that if you work hard enough, you can earn your opportunity. Not tell them, "You've already lost before you even begin." SGV is one of the best if not "THE BEST"volleyball clubs in the San Gabriel Valley. That's exactly why I'm speaking up. Because reputations aren't built solely on trophies and national rankings. They're built on values. Every parent who writes that check is trusting that their child will be developed, encouraged, challenged, and given an opportunity to earn their place. Not promised a role. Not guaranteed a position. But given a chance. For context, my son plays Varsity at Arcadia High School and was a rotating starting setter as a junior. He isn't asking for anything to be handed to him. He's simply asking for the same thing every young athlete deserves: A chance. And to the owners of SGV: please don't let this become the culture of a club that so many families have trusted and respected. Our kids deserve better. They deserve honesty. They deserve hope. Most of all, they deserve a chance. NEGATIVE ZERO STAR FOR THE COACH!! 5 STARS FOR THE PROGRAM!

Whether it's someone throwing away the trash and putting new bags in the waste baskets or somebody mopping the floor in the locker room it makes you feel as if the place is cared about and cleanliness matters. I can only imagine that the next matter I'm about to mention, has been written about or mentioned several times. I understand that there might be building and tenant rules in play here and that the gym might not have much they can do unless it goes way further up the chain like corporate management. I would kindly request that this matter be addressed because it affects everyone, whether a member or visitor concerning the parking rates. I came in as a visitor on a guest pass. For someone who's canvassing the area for gyms to find to make their home it was a challenge. My first visit cost me $10 and my second visit cost me $20. This is something to be considered when someone is looking to make a facility such as this their base for their health and workout needs. You can easily see that if somebody goes to the gym a couple times a week it can result and up to $60 or more. Justin parking cost on top of that there's a membership fee. Sometimes people need a small getaway, sometimes time gets away from you sometimes you just wanna hang out in the pool for an hour or so, and we want to be able to do that without constantly checking the clock. While using the locker shower area (no curtains in the men's showers), I felt that a staff member repeatedly lingered nearby, stared at me while I was showering, and later entered the stall area I had been using when I briefly stepped out. He touched my naked body with his shoulder as I was re-entering my stall. I reported this immediately because I felt unsafe and violated. I spoke with the manager, Carlos, expecting the situation to be taken seriously. Instead, I was told I could "go to another gym," which felt dismissive and extremely unprofessional for a safety concern. Carlos also told me the employee involved is named Ray. He had a dark mustache. After leaving, the situation escalated further when a female employee came outside the building and yelled at me after already addressing me inside. Overall, this was a very disappointing first-day experience. I did not feel heard, supported, or safe as a new member, and the way this situation was handled was unacceptable. I will likely be canceling my membership after this and attempting to get a refund since I just signed up hours ago.

Playing co-ed with 30 yr old men who think they are better than you and never pass it until you prove you will be their best player is lame. And watching girls whiff balls is more awkward then watching Jennifer Lawrence fake another fall on the red carpet. So imagine my elation when I found this league! It is full 90 minute games, referees, uniforms and 11 a side. LEGIT. And the teams are made of girls who have all played soccer at some point in their life so the competition is real. The refereeing is questionable at times and can be frustrating, but not enough to keep us from not playing. I just read that they are going to make the fields at John Ferraro turf, so this league just keeps getting better and better. (I mean, we prefer grass, but let's be honest, those fields were dirt patches). If you need a team, just go to the website and list yourself as a free agent, teams that do not carry full rosters use that to pull players. Fees might vary by team? But we pay about $100 per season (11 games) plus a one off uniform purchase.

We all thought "Oh, those guys are most definitely going to be kicked out". Next week, low and behold, we saw one of the same teams playing! At some point the City changed over management of the league so that there is a very low tolerance for those types of things. As for the level of play, they have a ton of divisions on the men's side, which plays Sundays. The top division is the "Super Metro", which you would think would get the better fields, but alas often has to play at exceptionally crappy fields (check out the ones at the intersection of the 5 freeway and 134 for example). They also have an over 30 division during the week and a womens division on Saturdays.
