When you join, you get guest passes to invite friends and family to join you. And it works! One friend liked it so much, he joined the gym. We started lifting together. But then we were told personal trainers were not allowed. That's cool, this is my friend tho. But we understood why. There are other trainers doing their job, it can be distracting hearing someone nearby pontificate about squat form. So any discussions about lifting turned to a whisper "Hey man, your squats off. Try this." "Wrist looked a little limp. Try this." But despite that, we got a final warning email that threatened to kick us out if we continued working out together. That was disheartening. And the more I think about this, the more confused I get. You encourage friends and family joining with guest passes, give them a discount, then are scolded for working out with friends and family? I reflect back on the year, and realize this has been happening right in front of me. Familiar faces were always solo, duos a blip. The 5 people who still Yelp, I implore you to consider, what constitutes personal training? What constitutes advice? Is it the certification of a Pharos approved trainer? They say it's a matter of safety, but I think it's just code for "This is a community that wants you fully invested in their classes and coaches, not each other." So I'm writing this review to warn anyone thinking about joining that potentially may work out with a friend. Your heads may be next. Overall: The space? Great. People? Great. Equipment? Great. Pricing? Steep as fuck. 4 1/2 stars!

I played sports thru college, transitioning into competitive triathlon, but was hit with very serious medical issues and surgeries and treatments took me *OUT* in the 2010s. I thought I'd never get back to my normal self, threw my time/energy into work, and resigned myself to a life on the sidelines. I'm fortunate to have a partner who was having none of it, knew I deep-down wanted and needed to get back, so he bought me a membership. I blushed and grimaced at the price I knew he was paying---I grew up on public assistance, so to *me*, this place is wild---but I accepted the gift, starting going, and never looked back. On my 1-yr anniversary of coming to Pharos, I emailed them this-- "I cannot believe it's been a year. Truly. What a difference it's made in my mental, physical, and emotional well-being. I found sleep, again. And while I continue to emphasize *former*, as in "former athlete" whenever my past comes up, I feel like I'm regaining some of what I lost with my health battles. You're part of that. I'm in remote Yup'ik/Cup'ik territory (AK) for a cultural gathering---here since Tue night---or else I'd be getting it in at Pharos Echo Park today. Thank you, all, so much. m" --but in talking with a phenomenal staffer, the inimitable Sue Shaheen, felt moved to write an actual review and share more publicly about the journey I've been on because Pharos has been a central part. Maybe all of these things are corny to say and share, but they're true. I have always felt welcome and comfortable at Pharos, and that's something I did not expect when I began. The anxieties and intimidation I had about going to a gym and "starting all over" were my own, about my own internal insecurities and the fact that I was a shell of who I was, mentally & physically (I'm 5'6 and wasn't even 100lbs when I started back. I was pretty broken! I still wear a mask every day for health reasons, but no one's weird or aggressive about it.). From the first folks who helped orient me---Kevin & Andre---to other trainers, coaches, and staff I've met over time--s/o to Sue, Joe, Abigayle, Alan, Nick, Cynthia, Alex, Kate, Micheli, Jesse, & more (please forgive any misspellings!)---everyone has been encouraging and supportive. Comrades using the gym have been warm and kind, as well. There's nothing quite like having someone you've never talked to, catch your eyes and go, "hell yeah, GET IT!" as you're struggling for that last rep. It's a good place with good people. As for equipment, there are tons of machines and free weights, which are more than enough for me; I'm here to lift and I don't need fancy. Still, if you compare my photo of the area they call "The Base" (the only space I use) to a photo of the same space here on Yelp from 2021, I think you'll see there's equipment that's been added, and it always feels like they're attempting to grow more. I'm an early morning person, and btwx the variety of machines/weights and the fact that there's no real "crowd" at that time, I never get stuck waiting for my next move/set. When necessary, again, b/c of the variety of equipment available, it's very easy to adapt a workout or move for a particular target muscle to what's available. Is everything perfect? I imagine not. I'm not using the facilities to the max, I'm not taking classes, I don't care about the music, I don't need saunas and pools and ice baths, and I'm just generally not a demanding person, so maybe I'm not able to thoroughly critique every aspect of this gym. But I don't need perfection. I need basic equipment that's functioning and available, and for the athletic space I'm sharing to not be overrun with cops & military. I have everything I need at Pharos and I am grateful to them every day.

As usual, water in the room costs money, and there are a few other products with hidden price tags in the room, too. Surprisingly, toothbrush and toothpaste was not provided. The water for showering also doesn't get too hot. In terms of the athletic space, the machines were very easy to access. There was never a wait even on weekend afternoons. The lap pool was my favorite part - clean and calm. There was some miscommunication between the lobby and the store, as one said there is no reservation system but there in fact was. But even when told all the lanes were fully reserved, more than half weren't in use. Parking is a bit of a hassle; for non-members it's definitely not worth it. At the time of visit, the parking machine wasn't working. There are also sperate elevators for parking vs the athletic club / hotel area which was a little confusing. The stair numbers also didn't coordinate the best with actual level.

I always felt that the kids were being used to further the goals of the Coach rather than the other way around. Winning seemed more important than developing players. But he's found a home at HFC. The training is really good. There's a strong sense that the coaches are there to develop players and teams rather than their own paycheck. Kids seem to come first. The facilities are top-knotch, all beautiful turf fields, and our training schedule is very stable (unlike our former clubs, where practice times would get changed frequently) Most importantly for my son, the sense of community is really strong. Parents work together and the Club supports every team. My son is on a team with kids from all over the world and all walks of life and everyone gets along famously. The club puts a high priority on teaching kids how to work together. HFC feels a lot more like the clubs I grew up with, challenging competitive training within a strong community atmosphere. Finally, a club that feels like a club. You should see the smile on my boy's face.

I've been playing softball here for years, and overall it's a solid complex. Glendale Sports…read moreComplex has well-maintained fields, plenty of space, and usually enough parking. It's also generally pretty organized, which goes a long way when you're dealing with multiple leagues and games going on at once. That said... they're making some seriously questionable decisions right now. They decided to install solar panels during one of the busiest times of the year, which has cut the parking lot in half. So now everyone's forced to park on nearby streets--which would be fine, except the signage is confusing at best and borderline impossible to interpret at worst. To make things worse, police have suddenly started patrolling the area constantly and handing out tickets like crazy. I've been coming here for years and never seen ticketing like this before--it honestly feels like shooting fish in a barrel. And yes, they'll even ticket you for not curbing your wheels. Between the reduced parking, unclear street rules, and aggressive enforcement, it really feels like a cash grab--and it's frustrating for people who are just trying to show up and play. All that said, I still appreciate having this complex. It's a great spot for both softball and soccer, and when things are running smoothly, it's a really enjoyable place to play. Bottom line: great facility, but right now the parking situation is a mess. Plan ahead... or risk leaving with more than just a loss on the field.

I was invited by my cousin to watch her child play a flag football game and low and behold, it was at this complex that I've driven by multiple times! Once you are here, you will find multiple free parking spaces. You will also see several playing fields. Several games were being played, so it's a good thing my cousin told me which field to look for. They are numbered. Very clean and well kept. Grass is turf. No seats, so standing room at the sidelines only. Bring a chair and some food because no venders.

This time, my visit fell under the 6 months mark which meant I was ineligible for the guest pass. Elektra and Carlos were at the front desk when I arrived to purchase my first day pass of 6. Both Elektra and Carlos were not only friendly and welcoming, but they were also extremely helpful in getting me set up for my stay and ensuring I saved money. Aside from the facilities being extensive (having all the equipment I need to maintain my daily workout split and cardio routine, plus a pool, a sauna, large locker/change rooms, and a variety of classes), having a staff that go out of their way to assist and welcome everyone really makes all the difference in why I will always be a return visitor to this specific LA Fitness location. Elektra and Carlos: thank you so much for being very supportive and going above and beyond. You guys are amazing! My ONLY critique of this facility is directed more towards the members: NO ONE RE-WRACKS THEIR WEIGHTS!!!!!!!!! :-[ (which I find very frustrating and inconsiderate). It is the only reason I did not give a full 5 stars.

While using the locker shower area (no curtains in the men's showers), I felt that a staff member repeatedly lingered nearby, stared at me while I was showering, and later entered the stall area I had been using when I briefly stepped out. He touched my naked body with his shoulder as I was re-entering my stall. I reported this immediately because I felt unsafe and violated. I spoke with the manager, Carlos, expecting the situation to be taken seriously. Instead, I was told I could "go to another gym," which felt dismissive and extremely unprofessional for a safety concern. Carlos also told me the employee involved is named Ray. He had a dark mustache. After leaving, the situation escalated further when a female employee came outside the building and yelled at me after already addressing me inside. Overall, this was a very disappointing first-day experience. I did not feel heard, supported, or safe as a new member, and the way this situation was handled was unacceptable. I will likely be canceling my membership after this and attempting to get a refund since I just signed up hours ago.

Playing co-ed with 30 yr old men who think they are better than you and never pass it until you prove you will be their best player is lame. And watching girls whiff balls is more awkward then watching Jennifer Lawrence fake another fall on the red carpet. So imagine my elation when I found this league! It is full 90 minute games, referees, uniforms and 11 a side. LEGIT. And the teams are made of girls who have all played soccer at some point in their life so the competition is real. The refereeing is questionable at times and can be frustrating, but not enough to keep us from not playing. I just read that they are going to make the fields at John Ferraro turf, so this league just keeps getting better and better. (I mean, we prefer grass, but let's be honest, those fields were dirt patches). If you need a team, just go to the website and list yourself as a free agent, teams that do not carry full rosters use that to pull players. Fees might vary by team? We all thought "Oh, those guys are most definitely going to be kicked out". Next week, low and behold, we saw one of the same teams playing! At some point the City changed over management of the league so that there is a very low tolerance for those types of things. As for the level of play, they have a ton of divisions on the men's side, which plays Sundays. The top division is the "Super Metro", which you would think would get the better fields, but alas often has to play at exceptionally crappy fields (check out the ones at the intersection of the 5 freeway and 134 for example). They also have an over 30 division during the week and a womens division on Saturdays.
