Fair warning, the entrance isn't very clearly marked. It looks just like a business front and I was confused as to how entering the park would actually work. I didn't do much research (which is a shock I know) into this garden before coming and was a bit daunted by the uphill climb. From the entrance, I assumed there would be a funicular or something. I was wrong. Not only am I not in shape, but I've been having some medical issues, and I was terrified I just paid an entrance fee to a park that I cannot check out. Luckily, the switchbacks are super gentle. We could hardly "feel" walking up this hill. There was also a lot to look at as we walked up so it was really a beautiful "hike." We were confused a bit by the signs and how far the garden went up. We weren't the only ones either because two couples past us while we rested on a bench, wondering if they were going the "right way" as well. I was expecting a bit more "garden" but got more "trees and shrubs" but I think this place is worth the hike just for the views of Florence alone.

Perfect place for some tranquility in the middle of the city…read more This was not on my list to visit the first time I was in the city. It happened to be just about 5 mins away by foot from where we were staying. We didn't book tickets ahead of time, but it was no problem as there was no line when we got there. There weren't that many flowers in bloom which was a bummer, but everything was trimmed that it reminded me of gardens in France. You can get a ton of steps in if you decide to walk every corner. I went up every stairs I saw. You get a great view of the city from the top. It was so nice to not hear the honks of cars and traffic noise. I was a little jealous of the folks who brought in their lunches. A ton of people were having themselves a little picnic situation in the corners that had shade. The property is kept super clean. I didn't see any staff on the actual grounds, but everything was orderly.

My brother's friend recommended it. I started to walk all over the city and discover it within a few days. It looks like everything is within 6 miles radius. I saw a few Golf cart doing tours and took one for 1 hour, if you pay cash, you can get a lower rate. I did it alone, and it was 50.oo for me. Absolutely do it, because the tour guide will tell you about the history and drive you through the main historical sites. He took me to one of those places where I was ablento buy wine thru a hole in the wall as it was done in the past. There are a lot of important offices in the plaza and restaurants. A lot of vendors and stores around and most of the vendors on the streets will negotiate and bargain with you, so feel free to ask to ask discounts.

As is known, and I hate to repeat it, but watch yourself, especially if you are going to talk to vendors or street performing people. There's a tactic to distract and pickpocket. We saw it ourselves, so keep an eye open. There are quite a few shops and cafes/restaurants lining this square. I'm not the typical tourist who likes tourists traps or luxury shopping while on vacation so it's not my cup of tea but it might be yours. And there is plenty to choose from here. People seem to very much enjoy the carousel as well. If you just like visiting pretty places with cool historical significance, this is still the place to visit.

My husband and I took the bus up in the early afternoon and even though we weren't there during golden hour, the city was still so beautiful. There were also plenty of spots to stand and take photos, so we never felt rushed or like we had to compete with other visitors for a good view. There are also an iris garden and a rose garden nearby with free admission, which we took some time to walk through as well. Overall, such a beautiful spot to admire Florence and definitely something I would recommend making time for if you're visiting the city!

Breathtaking is the word I would use to describe the view of the city below with the Duomo as the jewel in Florence's crown. The square is large and vibrant, stacked with priceless statues and the giant Neptune Fountain. Michelangelo's David lived in the piazza for centuries before moving indoors to the Galleria dell'Accademia, and you can see a smaller replica on the original site. The piazza surrounds the Palazzo Vecchio, its physical and spiritual centerpiece. The building is cool and distinctive, topped by a crenellated tower. It's Florence's town hall, and the piazza the city's town square. You don't have to try very hard to see the Piazza della Signoria. I'm actually not sure we ever went on purpose.
