Paradiso is a cafe by day, bar by night sitting underneath the Darling Park towers on Sussex St. I've been here a few times as an after work thing because I work in one of the towers and its close.
Apparently the cafe by day part is pretty good. There's always a good crowd there from whnat I can see from the office window. I can't vouch for it first hand though as I'm the only person in the IT industry who doesn't drink coffee.
The bar by night part I do have some experience with. Its....OK. The beer selection is some ghastly super dry somethingorother for people who hate beer but want to be seen drinking beer, some generic euro VB (Stella or Heinekin... its imported... it must be good) plus one decent beer (last night it was White Rabbit) and a selection of bottled beers and ciders. Most of their bottles and all of their on tap beers ate $6 after 5 so its not bad value. They also have wines and cocktails.
It gets crowded. And noisy. Particularly on a Friday night. It fills up with office folks - bankers and consultants and the like from PWC and Commbank who occuply most of the towers There are the odd Merchant Banker types amongst them (job description or rhyming slang... you decide) but its a mostly well behaved crowd.
For my money though, there are plenty of much better venues within spitting distance. I keep ending up here though because the people at work are lazy and don't want to walk to get a drink. That and they aren't beer snobs like me. read more
