As most men and women know, it can be challenging finding a decent barber that not only has the skill and experience to give a nice cut but who will also listen to you and provide friendly service without a long wait. I have been going to this father and son duo for years now and can go in at anytime and just say "the usual" or tell them a different style I want to try and I can walk out confident k owing I look like a million bucks. It doesn't matter which of them I go to, I just hop in the first open chair. Their hours are very conducive to my sporadic schedule, I have not once needed to make an appointment as 90% of the ti e I can walk in and hop right in a chair. The longest I've ever had to wait was on a Friday before a big holiday weekend and even then it was maybe 30 minutes and I just told them I'd be back, ran across the way to Walgreens and when I came back they were ready for me. I'm no eavesdropper but it's not hard to tell that vast majority of patrons are regulars and very at ease with the laid back style and extremely cordial conversation these two gentleman provide. They know their customers and their customers know them and they. Make you fell appreciated and welcomed each and every time. The shop is immaculately clean at all times, pleasant television volumes, very comfortable temperature and even provide a warm towel treatment post shave /haircut and a back massager at the end. The price is the best part as I can get a cut biweekly for $25.00 or a haircut and bead trim and shaping for $40.00 (don't forget to be generous with tipping for these hard working and composed gentleman!). Took me years to find a barbershop that was skilled and comfortable with African-American hairstyles that was close by - let's face it, their aren't too many folks with the amount of melanin the good lord saw fit to bless me with in the paradise valley community) and low and behold, one day I just Googled: "Barbers that cut black men's hair" near me and they popped up. The barbershop had been in my neighborhood for more than a decade, but I had no reason to change where I was going. Now I wish I had changed years ago. Paradise Valley barbershop is a hidden treasure behind the Walgreens at Tatum Boulevard and Shea. It's a treasure because this father and son barbershop consistently provide great cuts and friendly service. I get my hair cut about every three weeks and I've been a regular customer for at least five years. In 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, I made an appointment with Edward who came to my house and gave me haircut so I didn't have to leave my home for a much needed cut. You simply can't beat that for service. And I think it's the only barbershop that I've ever been to where I don't bother taking the mirror, that they hand to everybody at the end of their cut, because I already know that it's a good one. read more

Convenient location. Nice owners. Consistent cuts. Short waits. Television. Pretty much all a guy wants in a barber shop. I've been coming here for years, dating back to the previous owner. The shop has been around since 1975, first located I believe in the Smitty's grocery store where Fry's now resides (Tatum and Shea). It's been in its present spot for a couple of decades. Admittedly, I may not be the best person to write a review for a barber shop. I'm a bit hair challenged. Perhaps that's why the $18 cost of a basic men's cut seems a bit steep to me. It is fairly reasonable for those with full heads of hair, however, especially when you factor in the convenient location and quick service. Take note. First actual barber shop I have ever gone to after years of great clips. Wow...what a difference! Not only are these guys faster but the end result is much better! I used to have to "fix" little straggler hairs or other minor misses but now when I walk out it's exactly as it should be. I also appreciate the care these guys take to make sure you don't have a lot of little cut hairs on your collar when you leave. This is one of those seemingly old school barber shops like I went to when I was a kid. No nonsense, sit in the chair, get the necessary hair quickly and efficiently trimmed off, pay and get on the way to the rest of the day. Run by Eastern European immigrants, they're nice guys, quiet, moderately chatty if you are, and there's always a TV going. I prefer watching some generic shoot-'em-up movie, and they'll often accommodate my request. Price has been pretty stable over the years - I think when I first started coming here in the mid-2000s it was about $15, it's slowly increased to the $20 it is now. I don't know of another place that is as simple and straightforward as this place. The waiting is by gentleperson's agreement, with each who comes in checking who's already there. The barbers also keep track, so it's all cool. Definitely a good place to get a haircut. read more

So reminiscent of Barber Shops of our youth. I know stepping up into Edward's chair, that I'm going to get an awesome haircut. Over the years I have added the razor shave with classic hot towel and massage board treatment. Today I opt for what Edward and George call "The Real Deal". So in addition to a great haircut and an amazingly close shave, I get the facial as well. Easily the worst haircut I've ever received. If you want shaved up the sides and back, all clipper haircut with no tapering this is the place. One side of my head looks like a divot was taken out of it. I could do better myself with a flowbee... In fact I did during the pandemic. I think the problem is that they don't listen and really don't look at what has been done in the past. They just do what they are going to do Regardless of what you ask for, terrible...just terrible. The barber shop has always been the sanctuary within which men could relax and enjoy the company of other men. Sitting in the traditional barber chair the outside world fades away. My first haircut was in a place like this back Tennessee in 1956. When I close my eyes to allow my eyebrows to be trimmed my thoughts often turn to the hundreds of times I have been in just such a place but then it was Colorado or Nevada of New York or Arkansas or Florida or Chicago or dozens of small towns or plush hotels where my professional career depended on my appearance and my appearance relied on finding a real barber shop where experienced men would insure that I left looking well groomed. Conversations typically range from the latest scores to current events. My last visit the customers and barbers delved into the origins of civilization and the growth of criminal activity due to the breakdown of the family which has resulted from the a steady decrease in the average person's ability to find well paying jobs without earning a college degree which would leave them with a huge student loan obligation. I always leave looking well groomed and frequently receive compliments on my hair cut and overall appearance. As an older man I have special grooming considerations which my Barber Tony attends to using his decades of experience. If you miss the traditional barber shop of your youth then drop by, wait, talk, relax and when you leave your day as well as your hair will be improved. So-so haircuts, with an occasional really bad one. The bigger issue for me is, if you like dealing with honest businesses, DON'T GO HERE!!! After reviewing my credit card charges for 2016, I discovered that unbeknownst to me, they were adding on additional tip to what I had signed for. When I confronted Edward, one of the barbers, with the numerous instances of this fraud, he denied doing it. I followed up with a letter to the owner demanding repayment. I received a phone call from the other barber George, wanting to to settle the matter by giving me a credit to future haircuts. HUH??? I said that I wasn't coming back to any business that had cheated me, and that repaying the fraud was the only way for them to redeem themselves. George promised to send me a check. That was 2 or 3 weeks ago, and so far no check. Why am I not surprised? Dishonesty breeds further dishonesty. My next step is lodging a formal complaint with the State Barber's Board. AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE!!! read more

This is a very inconsistent experience. I have been going here regularly for four years or more, and I never know how I will be treated. The guys are competent and pleasant enough, but one time I'll be treated with hot towels and a massage vibrator, and the next time they'll rush me in and out without so much as an eyebrow trim.
