My favorite shop in Lexington! Susie always has some great unique unexpected items. And you can't beat the sales!

Alvin Dennis is a standard small-town high-end store. Serving the formal needs of residents, as…read morewell as the school spirit of both local universities. These stores are a veritable staple in the communities they inhabit. While I do admire them for playing that role, they fail to deliver on the needs of the customer. That is disappointing. Alvin Dennis charges high sticker prices for low quality goods. I have been unhappy with the quality to price ratio of every item I have purchased from the store. In a small community like Lexington, you are often backed into the corner of merchant scarcity. Regardless, I would advise spending your Saturday with a trip to Richmond or Charlottesville. Most of their factory goods wouldn't pass the $25.00 mark in a major metro. The fact that these items often cost $70.00+ is quite disappointing. Finally, they have a strict policy of 'no returns for refund'. It is well documented and posted. I certainly agree that this choice belongs to the merchant. That being said, a high end store will often differentiate itself with great customer service. 'No returns for refund' is a good first step to mediocre customer service and experience. Given their prices, they certainly feel like a high end store. Given their policies, they certainly fail to service their customers in the same manner.

My husband and I came in 7 months before our wedding to get his measurements and rental info. The woman at the register told us to let them know first thing the next morning if they didn't fit. We get to the place we're staying at, my husband tries his on... the sleeves look like a kid trying to fit into their old jacket. Keep in mind, THEY personally measured him. No big deal, the woman said to let them know. Right? Wrong. He went the next day with my brother (whose also didn't fit) and was more or less told to suck it and deal with it. If you tell us to let you know if they don't work, but then refuse a solution - you lied. They made a big deal that the seamstress was out of town and nothing could be done. So my mom went in and had to convince them to at least fix my husband's - these are pictures and video we'll have for life and he'd look ridiculous with such a poorly fitting tux jacket. Somehow after this, a seamstress magically was available to fix it. I bet we would have been treated differently if we were locals. Horrible, biased customer service.
