I have been here twice now and have been unhappy both times. However I'm only going to talk about my experience today, not last time. Today my appointment got pushed half an hour back with a heads up 25 minutes before the appointment. When I get there my trim turned from a starting cost of 65$ into 88$. Mind you I only got a trim on the ends of my hair and a retouch on my face framing layers. I was in the chair for no longer than 25 minutes. There should NEVER be an additional 23$ just for a blow dry or a style such as straightening or curling hair. This should be announced before doing it so customers are aware of these bizarre charges. I'm not even sure why my trim skyrocketed to 88$ and that's without tip. This is very misleading and while the cut was great, it was wayyy overpriced. The wash was also lazy and my forehead foundation was washed completely off as well as water in my ears. Never coming here ever again. read more

Got a haircut here for the first time. I won't mention the stylist name because I am not trying to ruin her business, but the prices are a little ridiculous. The website said $65 for basic wash and style. So why did I get charged $75?!. My hair is not that long and thick and I didn't ask for anything crazy. So I feel like this is a bit much for a basic cut. Other places I've been to that charge less even give you a nice massage, some drinks, etc but this cut literally took 30min with the wash and style. I called on a whim on Sunday morning and they had a cancellation and asked me if I wanted to come in that afternoon. YES! Whenever I make a hair decision it's the most important thing in the world until it happens and I have to fight the urge to cut my own bangs. So yes please take me today! I was so thankful for Christine to take me in and let alone giving me exactly what I wanted. I had a cut a few months prior and I didn't have enough layers so I wasn't liking the way my hair was behaving - it's my own fault for wanting to try something new. Tina did an amazing job with my hair. I was recommended to her by my college roommate. I had originally gone to a salon near my house that did not cater to ethnic hair. They were a great salon, but just didn't know how to deal with Asian hair, which has a lot of brassy undertones. This was something new that I learned because I've never really dyed my hair before! I called to book with Tina. She's always booked a month in advance so an appointment is needed. I originally came in with red brassy hair. Under different light it was a nice brown/blonde, but when it was in the sun, it was drastically red and pretty bad. I came in and she listened to all my concerns. I'm in the military so while I like to go light, my hair needs to be uniform throughout when in a bun. Unfortunately I can't enjoy the ombré or bayalage. We spent 5 hours on my hair where she transformed my hair from brassy red to a beautiful ashe blonde. She took her time and made sure I knew what was going on. She gave me tips on the upkeep of my hair. Was very considerate when I was sleeping during the process. She's easy to talk to and makes the visit comfortable. We talked about how she got into hair and she didn't brag about her experiences. I feel like the best hair artists don't need that hype. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! I was looking to find a new hair stylist a couple months ago and turned to Yelp reviews to help make my decision. I selected Papillon Salon because of their reviews and chose MONICA since she was mentioned frequently as a good stylist. I could not have been MORE disappointed! I showed her photos of how I wanted my hair to look, told her to take about an inch and a half off. Instead, she did a hack job and cut about 3" off my hair in a blunt cut fashion. It looked HORRIBLE!!!! I called and asked if I could come back in and have her "fix" my hair, and the next day I went back. I requested for her to put some layers in, but was hard to tell until I styled it. I went home and styled it and was in SHOCK! A HUGE CHUNK WAS MISSING IN THE LEFT SIDE OF MY HAIR!!!! (See photo.) I have been so upset by this I have not been able to write this review till now. I am trying to be patient while it grows out so I can have it cut properly, but it's hard. If you choose to go to this salon, that's your choice but take a look at the "quality" I got before you make that appointment. I'm pretty sure this is the worst haircut I've ever had. read more

After two mediocre neck clean up hair cuts from a national chain, I was ready to finally get a legit hair cut and find someone I could trust with my new locks... You see I have been sporting a military flat top for the last 25+ years. I really wanted to go local, so once the S@H order was lifted I did some Yelpstalking too see which local salon dealt with men's hair, and we're close. Papillon checked both boxes, so I called for an appointment, and was told the Monica was free in the afternoon. Well there was a little mix up on the schedule and I had to wait about 30 minutes, no matter. Once Monica got me in the chair, she spent a good amount of time finding out what I wanted. 30 minutes later, I walked out with the best cut I can imagine. It is everything on my must have list and is the right cut for my hair type (I have zero hair loss, but my hair is COMPLETELY straight and very fine so every mistake on my hair stands out) and for my face shape. Thank you for powering through this COVID mess. I am glad that we still have LOCAL places to patronize I can't wait to come back to see Monica again in about four weeks. read more

I'm still searching ... Based on the reviews here on Yelp, I decided to take a risk and booked a same day appointment with Kim. I called in a 10:30 am and was booked for 11:30 am. Although I showed up a little late, I was seated right away. KIM retouched my roots with just partial highlights and trimmed my long layers. She really didn't give me a hair cut, just a trim. The real deal that got me to book was the advertisement on Yelp - new customers get a free hair cut with a color service. Kim quoted me $75 for partial highlights. I was supposed to get a free hair cut but I really feel like I just got a trim. Not sure about how much it will cost next time read more

I was dreading getting another haircut after my last one. I've had so many bad haircuts since I moved to Sacramento. I got in the same day here. Monica was very patient with me. She made sure she understood exactly what I wanted. As she was cutting my hair, she explained everything. She's very experienced and super in tune with hair. I'm very impressed with my haircut...it was a fixer upper and now it's a beautiful curly pixie. The only reason for 4 stars is the salon is a little run down and the chairs were taped together where the leather was ripping and they seemed dirty...even though they use clean covers. The covers had weird stains. I'm extra careful about germs and cleanliness. However, I do recommend this salon over any other local salon. I've been to several and had subpar experiences. Tina is my absolute favorite! I've been going to her for as long as her career started (so I'd like to think). I've watched her talent grow over the years and it's amazing how far she's come! She's jumped from salon to salon in the past and I've followed her everywhere she's been. In the last few years I've cheated on her a few times out of convenience with both cut and color and I ended up crying 4 out of 7 times, lol. So I've learned my lesson and won't do it again :p. Sooo happy she's at Papillon now. I just make an effort to be in the area every six weeks so she can give me a trim and touch up my balayage/ombré whenever necessary.
