On my recent trip to Staples I brought a pencil sharpener to return that I had purchased online. I…read morewent to the front because there was no line at the time and I have been stuck in long ones before.
The person working the register got my order id and then hands me a receipt. He was not trained to confirm the details about the amount of my return. Unfortunately I was only given back the value of 60 % the cost of the item online and 50% of the cost in store.
The month before this I had placed an online order that never arrived so part of my purchase was using a credit, but not the kind of credit that requires a minimum purchase. So I asked if I could exchange the item instead and he called a manager who was not interested in even listening and she called some 800 number and handed the phone to me.
If the employee had confirmed the amount of the return I would have been able to do an exchange, but his failure to do that cost me money. And the manager was unwilling to cancel the return so I left without my pencil sharpener and lost the credit that they gave me for failing to deliver my order.
This is not a lot of money, but i expent cashiers to be competent and I expect managers to train them.
The store manager was awful, did not care about the customer and took no responsibility for running the store.
