View was great and food was decent. It was a nice relief from all the hiking to rest and unwind for a bit. I liked the potato croquettes but the meat was a little tough. I had my first aperol spritz experience and wew it was strong. The polenta was a little bland and the roast beef a little tough as well. But still decent food and the 4th star is really attributed to the nice panoramic view from the restaurant. read more

Excellent view and good foods that normally I would not hesitate to give four stars or higher. The only reason I am giving three stars to this restaurant is because of the service. Waiter's attitude is arrogant and unwelcoming. Too bad, otherwise it is an excellent restaurant. read more

This is a review specifically of the Panorama restaurant at the top of Bastei lookout (and not the adjacent hotel). It's a traditional Germany restaurant with an extensive menu. That being said, I actually went with the gnocchi (haha), which was not bad but nothing special. However, what's worth writing home about (and what prompted me to write the first review of this place) is the SPECTACULAR view. Since the restaurant and hotel are located at the top of Bastei in the heart of Saxon Switzerland National Park, it offers unparallel views of the Elbe river below as well as amazing valleys and peaks of the area. In fact, due to the fact it's a national park, there's nothing but small towns along the river and unadulterated countryside as far as the eye can see. Not many places where you can enjoy such spectacular views. The desserts were quite good (and generous in size), including ice cream with caramel and nuts. What makes this place so memorable is that to get here, we took the train from Dresden to Kurort Rathen (nearby village), took a ferry across the Elbe and then hiked several miles to the top of the hill to get here. Feel truly blessed to have experienced this once-in-a-lifetime experience. read more
