Gorgeous location and well stocked. The lemon merengue tarts were perfect. The empanadas weren't - the pork was wet pink mess, and the spinach one was unappetizing creamy glob though fresh. 7 people working behind counter for 8 people in line still took nearly half hour still to buy some bread, and that's if you know which part of line to stand in. Really incompetent staff - at least that day past week.

Cute little french bakery near the center of San Miguel! We stopped by one morning and were happy to see that the line was fairly short as the couple of days before when we walked by there was always a long line which deterred us from grabbing something. We weren't hungry but decided to get a concha to go. We ended up getting a traditional concha which turned out to be great - really light and fluffy inside with an addicted sugar top which turns the bread into a nice treat. They also have breakfast plates and savory pastries as well with a few tables inside if you want to eat-in.

Concha, Apple empanada and iced americano

What a great treat! Both the concha and the Apple empanada were absolutely delicious and paired with an iced Americano, a great way to rest and take in the sites of the Central plaza and Church.

Chocolate croissant, sausage empanada, and cappuccino

Stopped by here for a light breakfast. Reminds you of a European bread shop. The americano coffee and cappuccino were both good. I had the chocolate croissant and my wife the sausage empanada. The croissant was delicious and flaky and the empanada was stuffed with tasty sausage. We decided to finish with a lemon tart that was good. Very friendly servers and the place quite charming.

Was super excited to try the Kouign Amann but was SO bummed. It was dry and not flavorful. The spinach and ricotta empanada was also disappointing. Mostly spinach and very light on the ricotta. The donut we got was good--definitely the bright spot.

My biggest regret is that I tried this on my last day of vacation. Do not make the same mistakes I did. I had passed by this bakery every single day of vacation, telling myself repeatedly to go in but never finding the right time because I had always just eaten when I was passing by. Finally, on my last day of vacation, I was seeking out pan de muertos and decided to give this place a try. It was the best decision ever. The bread was SO light and fluffy with a hint of lemon. Basically it was heaven on earth. I tried to go back later but the bakery was closed and I didn't have time to go again before my early flight the next day. If I'm ever in SMA again, I'll be sure to come here on day 1....and really every day I'm in SMA.

Nice little French bakery in SMA. I tried the croissant, blueberry scones, madeleines, and eclair au chocolate. All of them are great!

Conveniently located on the cobblestoned artery between our hotel and Zona Centro's social hub, Jardin Allende, this three-floor cafe was compact but surprisingly relaxing given the constrained layout of the seating. The cafe's name translates appropriately to "good aromas" since the roasted beans wafted throughout the space. On our first visit, we arrived in the middle of the afternoon and treated ourselves to the MX$85 Affogato, a nice combo of vanilla gelato and an espresso shot (Photo 10). We came back the following morning when the place was literally percolating with customers. This time we shared a table on the rooftop. What I appreciated was how the owner had no compunction about telling laptoppers not to monopolize tables clearly set up for multiple people. This time we had true beverages with their own twists. I had the MX$60 Cococcino, a cappuccino with a touch of coconut oil, and Jamie went for the MX$70 Iced Buzz Latte with honey and a double espresso shot (Photo 9). Both perfectly satisfied because beyond the quality of the beans, we saw the exacting process they followed in their execution. It was a smooth brew in a chill space that was obviously attracting a lot of expats. I wish we had more time for a third visit. COFFEE - 5 stars...high quality, locally sourced, disciplined execution AMBIANCE - 4.5 stars...casual and relaxing in a rustic space SERVICE - 5 stars...very thoughtful approach here TOTAL - 5 stars...a go-to coffee house, for sure RELATED - Exploring San Miguel de Allende? I had El Rancho, which was a quinoa bowl with roasted veggies, sauce and eggs. Everything was absolutely delicious, coffee and tea were great. We sat on the rooftop patio which had a nice relaxing vibe.

I had the pleasure of staying in a home around the corner from Albedo for about a week during a…read morefamily trip to Mexico. I've been a coffee nerd for a few decades and a home roaster for about 2 years. TL/DR: I love this place. More detailed write-up: Staff: Super friendly and did their best to accommodate my poor Spanish skills. Coffee: All of their beans come from 3 regions in Mexico and you can get your drinks made from single-origin medium roasts or a blend. There's also a darker "robusto" roast if you're into that. Over the course of my week in town, I had drinks made with everything except the decaf. All of the roasting is done in-house on a beautiful, locally-made roaster. From a flavor standpoint, I found something to appreciate in each drink I had, and the quality level was up there with some of my favorite spots in my hometown of Portland, Oregon. The one area where I saw room for improvement was in the realm of latte art. Some of the guys had better skills than others, but in the grand scheme of things, I'm there to drink my coffee, not look at it. Processes: This part's pretty cool, and you don't see it very often. Once you select your bean, you can choose from a range of processes, including aeropress, pour over, espresso machine, and a few others. It's a nice way to explore the different aspects of a particular bean or roast. Crowd pleasers: If you've got someone in the group that's not a coffee purist, their mocha made my wife happier than I'd care to admit ; ) Get over there. Drink coffee.

I have gotten my coffee and pastries and hung-out hassle free for at least an hour the last few days. I have been staying at my friend's hacienda literally across the street so this place was incredibly convenient. Today at around 935, I came in to get my coffee and banana bread, and was also hoping to sit down and read the news. I only had a few more hours left before heading to the airport to fly back home to Chicago and was determined to enjoy every last minute I can squeeze in before flying back to reality. So imagine my disbelief when I placed my order and I was told I can only get it to go and that I was not allowed to stay because they are closed for maintenance. I told the server/cashier well how come everyone is still here enjoying their drink/food/gossip, and I was being told to leave? I even pointed out that he had just set two beautiful lattes down at the table of these two ladies who were just settling in to their table (the same one I had actually wanted to sit at.) The server insisted everyone was done. And that I have to leave. I checked their hours on help and it said they're open until 6pm. I didn't want to make a scene so I left but I told my host about it. He's friends with the owner and he was shocked at the way I was treated. For the record, I was the only non-white person inside the cafe. So, never again. And to future customers, go at your own risk. Unless you're white. Then you can move in.

Both dishes, while simple, were so delicious! I loved the beans, too! They offer a combo, which we both took advantage of, so I got fresh fruit on the side and he got a house-made juice. The combo also comes with 2 cups of coffee and trust me, you want the coffee! It was some of the best I've had in a long time! Our service was great and the courtyard seating area was nice. We also enjoyed checking out the attached art gallery after we finished eating.

After much debate, I decided to go with the pan dulce to share with my sister as a dessert after our meal, and I'm so glad I did. Not only was the pan dulce absolutely delicious, but the kindness of the owners made the experience even more special. It was only 13 pesos, but we only had a 500-peso bill, so they generously gave it to us for free. We felt bad, so we gave them $1 USD as a small thank-you, but their generosity truly stood out. Pan Dulce itself - It was perfect--the custard filling wasn't overly sweet and had a slightly gelatinous texture that I really enjoyed. The outside was super crispy, and the sugar coating added just the right amount of sweetness. It was the perfect treat to end our lunch! Between the amazing pastries and the wonderful hospitality, I would absolutely come back and recommend this place to anyone looking for authentic and delicious pan dulce.
