It's actually a great 'real' neighborhood and this place was our preferred place to go for bread, awesome grilled chicken and great (and gluten free) pastries! Try the Quondam or the Puddim do pay - very well done! You'll also of course get beer there, you can watch some soccer on TV or just chat with your neighbors.
Very nice and very friendly people that not once tried to treat us gringos different than the locals. This is NOT a tourist area and that makes it so great. Outside are 30 or more 'motorbike-taxis' stationed that drive people quickly up the steep hills into the favelas, there's lots of food and other stands on the street, there's even an open store that sells beautiful live chicken in various colors in case you want to harvest your own eggs. This is the one store in Brazil we're gonna miss. read more
