Praise for their delicious melon sorbet made with real melon!…read more After lunch I was craving a little something sweet and Collina looked swarming with customers on a warm spring afternoon, so I peeked in. The cafe is very small, with a counter inside the left entrance for gelato and sorbetto, a larger counter and display case of pastries along the wall inside the right entrance. Seems to be a handful of seats upstairs accessible by a narrow staircase though they looked to be cordoned off that moment. Gelato prices ranged from €3 for a small, single flavor to €5 for medium, €8 for large, €12 for maxi which I'm not quite sure how many scoops that was. The prices were the most reasonable that I saw along the Amalfi Coast in a few towns. After checking out the flavor selection I decided to go with a light sorbetto in melon and it was yummy! It tasted like if really ripe cantaloupe were made into a super smooth smoothie lol. They carried the popular sorbetto al limone (lemon sorbet in a lemon) for €10 too, though in general I heard mixed reviews about this item being overpriced. They offer a bunch of lunch-suitable menu items like simple paninis, pasta, salads and burgers; also some cocktails for €12-13-including an enticing Positano Spritz concocted of prosecco, limoncello, soda, fresh lemon zest. Pastries looked good too though the weather was a little warm for more sweets--their tiramisu cups, cookies, mini tarts and eclairs all looked like solid choices if you're in the mood.

I know it's touristy and gimmicky, but this was the perfect spot to get the iconic lemon sorbet…read moreinside a hollow lemon. It was pricey at €10, but the sorbet was refreshing and nice on a hot day. They also have a good selection of regular gelato, pastries and drinks too if you want something more reasonable. It's conveniently located in the heart of Positano where you can wander down to the beach or stroll through the shops.

Antico Forna is literally the place to go for this delectable and delicious pastry. They are located fairly close to the train station, and definitely off the beat and path, but literally anyone and everyone that knows how amazing this place is, and they will be there. You should see the line lol. Don't let that intimidate you, jump in line like everyone else, because you absolutely will be thrilled that you did. You will want to order one of everything, and I can't say that I would blame you. If I could go back every day, I absolutely would. The Sfogliatelle is served, warm, and the light flaky pastry crust is everything. Order more than you want, or need, and thank me later. There isn't a place to sit, there isn't a place to wait, it's pretty much completely take away. Have I said how amazing this place is?! I found the people to be extremely friendly that worked there, and they were extremely patient with my questions, and my ordering lol. Mangia!

The Sfogliatella completely blew my mind. The flakiness was incredible, and the level of sweetness was a perfect match for my cappuccino. It is truly a must-have in Napoli! On the other hand, the Babà was just okay for me and wasn't quite my favorite compared to the pastry. Just a heads-up: the line is usually long, so make sure to give yourself plenty of time. My only regret is that I didn't buy a second sfogliatella for the road!

Dessert before dinner, always a winner…read more Ok that's not really a saying, though on the evening I dropped by La Sfogliatella Mary, it worked out! With Naples being the birthplace of sfolgiatelle, this shop (or stand really) popped up on several travel websites as one of the better places to try this local pastry. Located at the western entrance to the Galleria Umberto I arcade, it's a popular stop for both locals and tourists. While there wasn't a line, a steady flow of people came by to pick up treats. On a Saturday evening the crowds were out in full force, though since they close at 8:30pm, around 8pm they were starting to prep for closing, taking out some of the remaining pastries from the display. Fortunately I arrived when they were still taking customers, and the cordial staff was quick to grab a sfogliatelle riccia €2.50, ask if I was eating it here or taking it to go, heating it up slightly then passing it in a wax paper wrapper sprinkled with powdered sugar. While it looks similar to a lobster tail pastry, the texture is different and they originate from different parts of Italy. This spot offers both types of sfolgiatelle--the Riccia version: deep-fried, layered, with a crunchy outer shell shaped like a conical shell, and the Frolla version: similar filling with a tender short crust pastry shell in a rounded dome shape. Both are served warm with a sprinkle of powdered sugar. They also serve a variety of other traditional baked goods like pastiera, baba rum, zeppola forno, frolla sorrentina. Biting into the sfolgiatelle, the crunch factor was immediate, nothing subtle about that first bite of texture! The fragrance of orange permeates thru the ricotta filling, I'm a fan citrus infused desserts and really enjoyed the tidbits of candied orange peel and brightness coming thru. There was a generous amount of filling inside, so generous I wish there was more shell to balance it out! It was also on the richer side, especially with the pastry being fried, and the shell felt a tad more oily than I prefer. In general, from eating at other pasticerrias several days in the region, seems the typical sweetness level is greater than I'm accustomed to. That being said, I still ate almost all of it, and was glad for the opportunity to drop by and try this!
