Family at bridal veil falls during white water rafting
Ryan M.

What a great experience. Family of 5 with 3 teenagers did the white water rafting and glacier tours and loved it. It is very difficult getting our kids excited about anything that is not a video game or streaming video but Pangaea filled the job perfectly. Staff was fun and engaging making sure the kids were having fun. Tours were safe and professional making us feel comfortable with these activities. Everyone was great to work with and we would definitely go back. Pricing was comparable to other tours so it was a good value.

Two friends and I did a 6 day kayak/camping trip from Columbia Glacier to Shoup Glacier. Our guide (Macee) was quite the gem. Pangaea supplied all food, sleeping pads, sleeping bags, tents, etc. We only brought ourselves and the essentials. (If I could do one thing differently it would have been to purchase rubber rain gear prior to the trip). Macee met us the night before our trip and made sure we were well equipped, calmed any nerves we may have had, and gave us a synopsis of what she had planned for each day. She also had backup plans based on our likes/dislikes/weather/tides/etc. Over the 6 days we kayaked over 70 miles through the most awe-inspiring, picturesque landscapes. Every day was something new! From glaciers, to iceberg filled waters, to a lake full of otters, to harbor seals, to crystal clear turquoise waters where jelly fish and sea stars were of plenty, to bald eagles, to water falls (where we filled our water bottles), to blue pools, to black bears, the list goes on and on. Macee was so knowledgeable about kayaking, camping in Alaska, the wildlife, the glaciers, etc. she graciously answered our many questions and even made a list of questions she didn't know the answers too. I not only learned a ton. Macee's patience, calm demeanor and knowledge made me feel safe throughout the trip. She handled herself as a true professional, and became more of a friend before our journey was through. Macee went above and beyond to adhere to dietary restrictions and made us a different meal for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. All were wonderful! I have never ate so well on a camping trip!!! Everyday was special. Even the tough parts (yes there were a few tough moments that took some mental strength to get through) made the trip that much more memorable. Looking back at the trip I feel so very fortunate to have spent this time with 3 other adventurous, powerful, kind, and curious females. It seems like a dream rather than reality. I couldn't have asked for a better experience than the one we had and will look back to this trip with the warmest feeling in my heart and soul! Thank you Pangaea for offering such a wonderful experience! Forever grateful! Special thanks to Dave and Ryan who got us to/from our adventure and helped us load/unload our gear.

Ask for Ben Richard. He is one of the best glacier tour guide! He is professional, friendly and responsive. We love the photos he shot for everyone!

Do yourself a favor and BOOK THIS TOUR My whole family (13 people!) and I went on the Columbia Glacier kayaking expedition on a cold, rainy Valdez day -- and it was the most breathtaking, sublime experience of my life. (As a plus-sized person who gets very seasick and is afraid of open water, that's really saying something.) Our captain and our guides, Natan + Ashley, were expertly knowledgeable, friendly, and genuinely fun to be around. They made each of us feel safe and prepared so that we could enjoy our experience. Here's some tips: 1. Wear layers, and dress like it's winter. (I wore a base layer, a fleece, and two rain jackets, and still got drenched from the water that dripped into my sleeves. Do not skimp on gear (fleece gloves, hat, etc.) that keeps you dry and warm -- it's absolutely necessary. I didn't do this and was miserably cold the whole way back.) 2. Before you go, try getting into the kayak to make sure you fit. (My partner is a size 22-24W, and had a hard time getting in and out. We were able to maneuver just fine once we were in, though.) 3. If you get motion sickness, don't risk it -- take Dramamine. (The boat ride there wasn't too choppy, but the way back was another story. Take some in the morning and again at lunch so it kicks in for the return boat ride.) All in all, it was an absolutely incredible trip that I'll never forget. Can't recommend Pangaea Adventures highly enough!

We had a blast; the weather was perfect, the guide, Sammie, was excellent, and the glaciers/icebergs were active that day! We took the 10 hr Columbia Glacier Kayak Tour. I thought 10hrs was long, but it went by pretty fast. We saw icebergs crumble before our eyes without warning, so don't get too close to them! Sammie brought some pretzels and trailmix, and made hot chocolate for us when we docked on the other island for lunch. Yes--you should bring your own lunch. The pacing of the trip was very leisurely and we didn't feel rushed at all. Sammie was a geology major and knew a lot about glaciers. She also was very helpful to take photos for us against the largest icebergs. WARNING: there are NO bathrooms once you get on the boat. They will tell you that you'll be taken to "the most pristine bathrooms on the planet", and guess what that means. I ended up peeing in a bush 2 times. I guess it's part of the experience...and everyone else had to do it! There was a sighting of the Northwestern, which is the boat featured in The Deadliest Catch tv show. The crew waved to us.

A must-do activity in Alaska! Ben is the best sea kayaking tour guide. He is knowledgeable, fun and helpful. He spotted a bunch of wild animals on our way to the beach, and he made hot chocolate and hot tea for us during the lunch break. He even shared the great photos he took along the trip - what a bonus! The trip is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and we got to see the glacier up close and sip on the ice while kayaking.

We took a boat to the destination. Ocean's tide is big so we canceled the trip to Columbia but to Shoupe glacier. It's not as magnificent i guess but still good view and experience. The guides are awesome, we did have an accident that one boat flipped. The guides were fast and prepped with dry clothes and water. They calmly and helped them out of the icy glacier water and helped them dry out and doing warming up of the core. Then we went back all safely. The view is different, the glacieor looks a bit sharp and we have some shallow place that we need to walk and drag the boat. all are nice experience. And for sure, they have layers of equips that asks us to wear and help us get protected. :D

Anna, Emma, and Josh provided us with a memorable kayak at the Columbia Glacier. Mike, the boat captain, was also great.

Was afraid we might not see much wildlife but wow, there were so many opportunities from eagles (in trees and on icebergs), to adorable sea otters, whales, puffins, and sea lions. I easily took 200 photos! Every time something was spotted, the boat would slow or stop, and information about what we were seeing was explained. Of course, there was the star of the show - the Meares Glacier. We got very close to it and stayed there for a good 15-20 minutes. The boat has plenty of inside and outside seating and you are also welcome on the bridge. We were served a warm bagel with choice of cream cheese, butter, or peanut butter about an hour after departure. After leaving the glacier, we were served lunch. I'm a vegetarian so I brought my own sandwich but they were happy to offer just the veggies, rice, and roll without the chicken. Free coffee, tea, and water all day. Staff was friendly and approachable.

We saw so many icebergs and the Columbia Glacier. Bring a sandwich or snacks or buy some at the canteen (cash only). I would recommend to everyone going to Alaska.
