So imagine some sort of delicious fusion of Italian, French and Mediterranian foods and you've got…read morePane E Latte. It's a deli. It's a specialty foods store. It's a cafe. It's a bakery. It's everything your little heart could desire on a work lunch break. I popped in last week for a takeaway lunch of a spinach and ricotta pastry and lemon meringue pie (oh my goooood!) and I just had to go back. This time I sat in and ordered a coffee and a chicken cotoletta (basically schnitzel) which was served with a delicious salad of greens and tomatoes with buffalo mozzarella and a sticky balsamic dressing and fresh bread on the side. It was WAY too much food more me and I could have easily shared it someone. The whole meal cost me $15.50 and was worth every penny. My only regret is that I didn't leave any room for the divine looking cakes they had on display! But I've learned my lesson for next time.

So Pane E Latte. What can I say about this place? Well let's start with some background data shall…read morewe? I am an American on holiday. I did not know what to expect from this place and just found it on a regular stroll about the locale. Was I satisfied? Well quite so. I walk right in no knowing what is what and was greeted by a nice young lady. The place was small but quaint. I kind of liked it. It felt very welcoming and friendly. I ordered a simple black coffee and a spinach and cheese pastry type dish. Said order same out to me, note being I sat outside as it was a very nice day, promptly and for which I did not have to wait long. Coffee was a tad on the smaller side but was sufficient. The spinach and cheese pastry was nice. I quite enjoyed the dish but it didn't leave a lasting memory. Coffee, despite the size, was respectable. Definitely not the best I have had but far from the worst. I went back in and had an iced coffee and that too was brought to me outside and was just as nice. Much more than was I expected. I was expecting a simple iced coffee. Case in point an iced coffee that I was accustomed too is the same as a regular coffee just cold. This was much more. It was like a shake with ice cream on top. Will I complain about this break from normality? No I will not. I liked it a good deal. It just threw me for a curveball. What else can I complain about? Well, since it was the first time I was at this location I asked for recommendations and did not get any. Is this a big deal? Well, it is a double edged sword. On one hand it is a sign that everything may be good but on the other hand it may be that the location does not have its own identity. What selection is great here? What will be a good order considering I don't know what is good here? I do not know. I did not get a recommendation. I walked in blind seeking guidance and was left still blind. I don't know if I experienced everything this place had to offer or if I should return wanting more. It may be a minor gripe to you but to me it is rather important. I like knowing what a place has to offer. I like to asking for a recommendation and trying said recommendation to see if it was indeed a correct choice. Pane E Latte was indeed a nice place. Walking in I had a nice experience. I just wish they had the wow factor that I desired. Tell me what is good. Guide me to experience the best that you offer. That little extra step goes a long way in the eyes of the guest. If you make us feel like you want us to experience the best you have to offer we will come back to see the rest. What I experienced was, although nice, not enough to make me go out of my way to return and see more of what can be offered.

What a gem of a little bakery! Not being on the main Sydney…read moreroad drag means that there are mainly locals that frequents this shop. Although I have a feeling that the Village Bakery may have its own not-so-local addicts. It's one of those places that looks almost warehouse like from the outside so you don't really look twice. Once you decide to visit Village Bakery though, it's a whole different story! It's elegant and welcoming inside, Open plan type counter and seatings and bread, cakes and pastries, pies and the smell of coffee. It's bright and smells delicious inside. You know you're gonna put on those kilos here. Bread are fresh daily, and there's also a selection of cheap day old bread on the side. Fresh whole meal loaf will set you back about $4 and between $1-3 for day old sourdough, rolls etc. I tried the Nutella donuts ($4)ea also available with jam or custard Pies and pasties selection include lamb, chicken and vego and there's also quiches on offer It was super difficult to keep my eyes off he cake cabinet... Eeeegggghhhhh I spied meringues, berry tarts cheesecakes, EVERY THING looks good!!!! I walked out still sniffing the coffee in the air and thinking about my next purchase... Oh its a blessing and a curse to have finally discovered the Village Bakery. Tip: on street parking and a few off street parking spots directly on door. If you're stuck, park at union square across the road

A quaint little bakery you may not think twice about. However, if you just kept walking on by then…read moreunfortunately you would've just missed out on some really good treats. Sure they make your typical varieties of fresh breads and sweets, but it's the Greek speciality items on offer that makes The Village Bakery worth a visit. The spanakopita in particular is a rare treat. They don't make it often, so when it is available, the locals flock to it. The folio pastry they use must be homemade as it's nothing like the stuff you'd find in a supermarket. It's thicker and beautifully crispy on top. The filling has the perfect balance between salty feta and earthy spinach. I can definitely see why it runs out so fast. One morning I popped in to grab one of their Greek pastries with the custard in the middle, and the owner told me they had just baked a fresh batch and went to get me a one from the back. It was still warm which made it twice as good. Now I try to get there in the morning hoping to score another freshly baked goody.
