I very rarely get a steak in HK so the bar is set pretty high experience wise. I came for my…read morebirthday and I wasn't disappointed with the filet I got. A few places I've been in Asia usually aren't willing to cook a steak or anything else for that matter, than medium. While I was afraid that it would be the case here I was glad to hear my call for medium rare, then just 'rare' was taken without a blink. The steak was cooked perfectly, tender, moist and even though they brought out a few sauces but honestly they're not needed. While steak is obviously the centerpiece of a good steak house, the sides shouldn't be neglected. The creamed spinach was really good. I'd definitely recommend it and I usually don't like creamed vegetables.

My impression of this dish is like a salad. The sauce tastes like lemon and yet on the sweet side. That probably gives me a sense of salad feel dish, especially it's a cold dish. Sauté Mushrooms (score:5/5) Although this is a simple dish, the taste is extraordinary! I could not stop from having more. Rib Eye Steak (score:4/5) This dish was too big for one person. I guess it's rare to say that in Hong Kong. But it's really big. The steak was asked to cook in medium and the chef has done the job aright! The meat was tendered and the middle was pink. A nice restaurant to dine at.

Going to a steakhouse in Hong Kong as a Canadian is a bit like going to Canada for ramen or…read morevisiting China for their spaghetti. HK is just not known for its cows (do we even have cows?) But, this is Argentinean steak, so we're experiencing something imported and exotic! I learned that this isn't really in reference to the way it's cooked, but actual pieces of meat from Argentina. So was it as exciting and mind-blowing as one might think? Well...nope. Gaucho is a fancy Argentinian steakhouse located in the fancy expat-y part of Central. So of course, that comes with fancy prices. During Restaurant Week, they had a prix-fixe lunch menu for about HKD $200. Glasses of wine were available for an extra $60. The choices weren't bad, you get appetizer, entree, and dessert with free iced tea. Each course comes with 3 options, with 1 being an upgrade for a certain price. 1) Appetizer: I chose the Provolone and Onion Empanada. Pretty tasty start! The cheese was nice and gooey and spilled out of the single empanada. The pastry was flaky and warm. 2) Entree: The entree is what we looked forward to the most: Argentinian steak. I was the only one that stuck with the default 150g sirloin, my co-workers upgraded to the 180g rib eye for $50. Verdict? We were all slightly disappointed. The piece of meat was tender and juicy for sure, and a perfect medium rare. But...there was no fire. But that I mean, there wasn't any of that nice char I associate with a well-grilled steak, no distinct flavours. It was a beautiful piece of meat, but it just wasn't as tasty or memorable as I thought it'd be. 3) Dessert: Well things just went downhill and crashed with dessert. I just don't think it's Gaucho's forte. Some of us got the caramel creme brulee (extra $10), some got the rice pudding. Both were far too sweet. The third option was fruit, which might have been the best option. Overall, the meal was fine, especially for Restaurant Week. The service was great, as expected of a high end restaurant. I left on a full stomach but not a wow'd stomach. Maybe next time, Argentina, I will experience the full beauty that your cows have to offer. (63/100) - 2017

Ahhhh, who doesn't love a good steak? Well, I do love it but I usually make it exceptional to go to…read morea steakhouse (not cheap!). I had nothing to celebrate this time but I just hadn't been to one for a long time. I initially booked for another one, but then realized Gaucho had just opened and didn't think about it twice. I called but got the answering machine, then emailed but no answer. That was in the morning...so decided to give it another go in the afternoon and I finally got through someone at the restaurant and made a reservation for 7pm. I had been to two of the outlets in London when I used to live there and it was an experience every time. So, I was really excited about this opening! When we got there by 7pm there was barely anyone around. The space is very 'Gaucho' style...modern, stylish, dark (really dark), fancy (the music was great by the way!). But yeah, let's just get to the point: the steaks, mmmm. I ordered the 'Ancho' (rib eye) medallions (225 grams - 298 HKD) and a side of broccoli (68 HKD). My boyfriend got the 'Churrasco de Chorizo' (sirloin), that he ordered rear (300 grams - 318 HKD) and a side of sweet potato mash. They first serve some bread with butter and chimichurri. So good! And they bring the different cuts on a wooden board to explain where each of them come from (they usually ask if you're vegetarian too...). When the food came there was silence in the table between the two of us almost until the end of the meal. Yeah, it lived up to my expectations. It was just great. The service was also really good, although you can tell there's a little bit of work to be done since it's just been opened. Our waitress was super sweet and attentive and she did a great job explaining everything to us. I'd just wish the staff didn't push us to have some drinks. One of the reasons why I picked Gaucho yesterday night over other options in the city was the fame it carries and the price being slightly cheaper. So I can only conclude, amazing value for money: great location, excellent food, good service...gosh I cannot wait until the next one!!

A lot of food and a good value for 368 HKD. You also have an option for adding an empanada for 58 hkd and a glass of Malbec for 88 hkd. Service was efficient, friendly, and helpful in explaining the menu. The decor of the restaurant is interesting and is going for a polo club look. Food: 4.25 stars Service: 4.5 stars Environment: 4 stars Overall: 4.25 stars Recommendations: Provoleta, ribeye steak, french fries The food I ordered: 1) Provolet (Highly recommend) a : probably my favorite dish of the evening. Creamy gooey cheese spread over toasted bread. Really delicious! 2) Steak tartare: Not really a fan of tartare but the version here is pretty good. Nice texture and taste. 3) French fries (Recommend): These were really good. They cook them in duck fat and dress with garlic and parsley. The fries were real crisp and the garlic flavor wasn't too over powering which is a problem I find with garlic fries. 4) baked sweet potato- Sweet potato topped with bacon and sour cream. Tasty but really heavy dish. 5) Creamed spinach- classic steakhouse dish that is done pretty well here. Not too much cream which I liked as this dish is typically too heavy. 6) Ribeye steak (Recommend)- The meat quality is good and the taste was really nice. A bit of uneven cooking on the steak as some parts were a really nice medium rare and others were more towards the rare side. However, still one of the better steaks I have had in HK. 7) Malvisicos (Lightly Recommend)- This is basically a marshmallow with dos leches ice cream inside. This dessert is pretty fun as you can cook your marshmallow over an open flame. The ice cream has some next crunch components to it and you can a lot of different textures here and contrast of hot and cold. I'm not the biggest marshmallow fan otherwise I would have liked this more.
