Ain't gonna lie this a perfect example of a hole in a wall. Legit would of never thought there will be a reason to go to Apple valley until I ate at this restaurant. No offense Apple Valley you are beautiful in your own way. You can tell the chef and staff at this restaurant take pride and passion when it comes to their food. Everything is made as if you were eating it fresh at home. The restaurant has a chill vibe where It makes me forget I'm in Apple valley. I had the camarones a la Diabla dish which didn't disappoint. That b had my fucken scalp sweating in a good way. Yea place was torch recommend and will re visit . Dank review for this place is a 8.8/10

    Very Big Asada Burrito

I love Mexican food and honestly can't find really good Mexican food restaurants up here in the High Desert... That is just my opinion. I saw that this place had many good reviews and had to check it out. I went in and got an Asada burrito as well as some Asada tacos and it was all very delicious. They had great customer service and the homemade tortillas were a very nice touch. I know they are known for their sea food so i'm planning to go back again sometime to check that out. This is a hidden gem and highly underrated check them out.

TOTALLY worth the Detour Even the beans and rice are full of flavor. I had the flavorful Garlic Shrimp dish, exceptional!! My husband got shrimp tacos & said it's the best shrimp tacos he has ever had. I'm telling you this place will not disappoint. It's a little family restaurant. BIG on flavors!

This hole in the wall place has been on my list for a while and it was nice to finally get to stop by. The shrimp Diablo and asada fries were good. The fish tacos were 4 star for me. I'd definitely get these again. The restaurant vibe was like being at your Mexican Grandma's house. Very sweet. The owners were very kind!

Yelp community suggestion for the win with this one. I randomly heard this was a top Yelp pick and wanted to check it out with the family. I'm so glad I did. This is a cute, quaint restaurant in Apple Valley. The vibe is family friendly, clean and well presented. The food?!? Top notch. I describe it as eating food at someone's house who can really cook. Well seasoned, down home, fresh and fast. We started with aguachiles and guacamole. This was my first time having aguachiles. Very spicy (you can order to your taste) but even with the spice if was so freaking good. Like a party in my mouth. And the cilantro and cucumbers provided the perfect contrast for the heat. I couldn't stop eating it! Entree: we wanted to everything. We had the garlic shrimp, enchilada with red sauce (it was a special) and shrimp and fish tacos. I ate a bit of everything. Garlic shrimp was the star. Not a fan of shells on shrimp but the sauce made up for it. Enchiladas were cheesy goodness. We tried steak and pork. Both were meaty and well constructed--not messy or too saucy. I also enjoyed the tacos. Perhaps the fish was a little big for the taco but that's an easy fix. Overall, five stars. I hope to return. Also the service was great. I felt like a regular.

I'll admit I was a bit skeptical at first. In my experience, salads at Mexican restaurants can sometimes feel like an afterthought: a handful of greens with a few random toppings tossed in. That definitely wasn't the case here. I ordered the Montecito Chicken Salad, and it completely exceeded my expectations. The chicken was served warm (exactly how I like it on a salad) and seasoned perfectly. It wasn't dry or bland like you sometimes get with salad proteins--it was flavorful and clearly prepared with care. The portion size was also generous. Instead of a few tiny pieces scattered around, there was plenty of chicken, making the salad feel like a full and satisfying meal rather than a side dish pretending to be lunch. Everything tasted fresh, balanced, and thoughtfully prepared. It's the kind of salad that reminds you a simple dish can still be done really well. Another thing that stood out was the service. The older women working there were incredibly kind and welcoming. You could tell they take pride in their work and in the place itself. That kind of genuine hospitality always makes a dining experience better. Music was at a tolerable level and reminded me of my childhood home, my mom played some great music when she cooked, cleaned or just vibed. Sometimes the most unexpected places end up being the best stops. Montecito Kitchen turned a quick lunch break into a really pleasant surprise. Next time I'm back in the area, I wouldn't hesitate to stop in again--there are plenty of other dishes on the menu I'd happily come back to try. Great food, warm service, and a salad that actually delivers. Definitely worth the stop.

The meat in these tacos was outstanding, with not one speck of gristle.. Homemade and better than my homemade. Shrimp, fish filet, octopus, abalone, cheese, and cactus, in roasted salsa makes up the molcajete (stone bowl) which came out burbling with a beautiful and that tasty octopus tentacle hanging off the side. If you've never had it, octopus doesn't have a lot of flavor of its own but it takes on the flavor of how it's prepared. In this presentation, soaked up the flavors of the roasted salsa and was so tender with a texture that was the opposite of chewy. I had a couple of happy hour house margaritas and my wife highly recommends the cucumber jalapeño margarita.

My primary order was the Camerones a la Diabla which I order everywhere I go. The Camerones a la Diabla at Ruben's is one of the best I've had. The shrimp were always cooked very well. There wasn't as many shrimp as I've had at some places but it was a fair portion. I also ordered some of their a la cart tacos and they were always tasty. All of my orders were for delivery. The food always arrived fresh. The tacos in particular held up better than most during the delivery process. The packaging for the a la Diabla was not the best as it was a simple plastic clam shell type container. On every one of my orders sauce had spilled out of the container and got all over everything else in the bag. If I could give a suggestion, the best packaging I've seen for a la Diabla was to put the shrimp and sauce in a soup container and the rice in an underfilled clam shell or turtle shell type container. You can pour the shrimp and their sauce into the other container just before eating and it helps everything stay hot, or cold, and prevents the sauce from getting soaked up by the rice before you even open the container. Since I only ordered delivery I can't really comment on the restaurant's ambiance or the in house service.
