This is a record of what occurred three years ago. And it still hurts!…read more Pat McGann sent this email to me on August 31, 2017: "Fred has asked me to have you return your mom's ashes to me, which is his right, being the next of kin. Sorry to have to ask this, but it is the law. Please drop off at the Edison Rd FH. Thanks!" My response to McGann: Hey McGann, who do you think you are telling us to return our mother. Do you think for a minute that I care about Fred's rights? And do you really think I care about the "law" you are quoting? Do you have any idea what this has been like for us? My mother is gone. Her life and memory have been insulted by this abusive husband she made the mistake of marrying. I have been sick for a full month, and you talk about "the law." Are you kidding? You knew Fred was refusing to pay for the headstone as he walked away from that funeral. You also knew he did not have any interest in the ashes. With his actions, he basically sent the message, "Oh well I've done as much as I'm going to do (or as little as it turned out); you guys (her children) can pick up the rest on this one." I guess he just assumed we would put Binder (his last name) on the stone. And then he went home as if he had just played a round of golf. I am sure he bought a nice headstone for his first wife, but not for my mother. That is why you gave us her ashes. My sister picked them up and we went about our business and made plans to take care of her. We had a nice stone picked out, and we planned to have our own private burial over the Holiday Season. Even in our sorrow, we felt some peace that she would be remembered properly as she so rightly deserved. And now just because Fred gets shamed for refusing to pay for a headstone for my mother's grave, he decides on a whim that he wants us (her children) to return them? And now you (Pat McGann) are telling us to return our mother to you? And you are telling us it is the "law." You and Fred have prevented us from completing our arrangements for our mother. Do you have any idea how insulting and disrespectful to my mother and us you sound? "Sorry to have to ask this but it is the law." "Please drop off at the Edison Rd FH. Thanks!" You are talking about my mother's remains as if she is some object like a garden tool or bag of laundry. "Please drop off" Are you kidding me? All you care about is the money now that Fred wants to buy a headstone from you.
