Palmer Construction came highly recommended by my insurance agent, but I regret following his suggestion. Job was seemingly easy: dry flooded kitchen floor and act as a general contractor to put a new floor. Jerry, who was responsible for both, did not do good work in either - poor drying work, and non-existent contractor's work. When Jerry was determining what part of the floor to remove for drying subfloor he missed the large area behind the dishwasher. He simply did not put his moisture meter there, nor he checked the basement which would allow him easily determine where the subfloor was wet. Later, when floor contractor came to install new floor we discovered that wet subfloor area. We tried to dry it out with a small fan but the new floor had to be installed, basically, over slightly moist subfloor. In the basement I discovered black stuff on the insulation beneath the wet subfloor. Later Jerry removed it, assured me it was just dust, and sprayed the area with anti microbial spray. There wasn't any such dust before, so I do not know how accurate it was.
Jerry's general contractor's work was simply non-existent. It was I who had to call or email him constantly to force him to do each next step. I felt that I was doing contractor's work with a stubborn client! Still it took over a month to finally finish tiny kitchen because Jerry reacted so slowly to my remainders (and wouldn't give me the number to floor subcontractor). I think that Jerry's luck of concern for the client was the main reason for those delays. Sometimes someone would tell me that Jerry is busy - didn't I pay for his time? If he was too busy to do the job for me he shouldn't undertaken that job.
We expected that by hiring a general contractor, especially highly recommended, we wouldn't have to worry about anything, just sit and observe a smooth, quick transition from old floor to the new one. In reality we lived for a month in a construction zone, with a contractor who didn't do anything unless pushed by us, who wouldn't call even if he promised to do so, etc. We lost so much time for constant phone calls and emails that, I'm sure, we also lost part of our health due to the stress.
You think that for such bad job Palmer Constriction gave us some kind of discount? Wrong! They didn't charge us even 1 cent less! We paid whatever they wanted because we had enough stress and lost time, and just didn't want to deal with them anymore.
