It started good then it went downhill. My mother was a patient and did not get the care the family is expecting. Food is not good, bath is only given once a week. mostly spanish speaking people and patients do not understand them. I am a resident currently living at Palmcrest Grand Residence. I enjoy the time I have spent a Palmcrest the staff have been very helpful when I need help. I have made friends with some of the residents that live here. I enjoy the activities that they have especially bingo and Bible study. My brother was there as a patient with dementia. It was beyond a horrible experience!!! Mostly young, inexperienced aids working there with limited English skills. My brother with mild dementia had to struggle to understand instructions. They also stole his clothes and even took his fire stick with the remote from the back of his TV. Had to argue for a month to have them replace the $28 device, while his rent was $1418 a month. Every month he was admitted to the hospital for falls because they are too cheap to hire competent workers and to take care of their patients. My brother had bruises all over his body from the falls, including cuts above his eye. Their response was, Oh, so sorry, we didn't know." read more

After years of trying to take care of her partner at home, my mom finally accepted she could not give him the care he needs. His dementia is progressing and he has had a couple of accidents. This is heartbreaking for her. But once he was accepted to Palmcrest she knew it was the right decision. He had fallen a couple of times, most recently this past July, and ended up in a rehab for recovery. This is important for this review. Palmcrest is a beautiful facility. It felt clean and modern, bright and well maintained. The residents were interacting and seemed happy. The memory care area is secure and seemed like it was going to be a great fit for "John". Instead it was a nightmare. John was transferred from another facility...after a fall. He was assessed at that facility by a woman from Palmcrest who approved him for transfer. She physically saw him, reviewed his condition, spoke with him, and yet overlooked the neon yellow bracelet that says "FALL RISK". John was medically transported to Palmcrest (Paid for out of pocket) around 10:00AM on 7/25. By 3:00 that same day we were told he would not be allowed to stay and he would need to be out of the facility that night. That night! The lead administrator (I'll refer to as Miss P) told us that the owner would not allow for him to stay as a resident because he is a fall risk. A fall risk! I repeat that because that was in his file from the beginning. There was a bright neon bracelet telling them that during his assessment. He was in rehab due to a fall. Of course he is a fall risk. I'm not even sure I can articulate how hard it is to watch a loved one with dementia being treated that way. We had nowhere to take him. One Admin member, Mary, did try to call many other facilities and find a placement, but we had hours to move him. Hours to figure out Medicare acceptance, memory care ability, and find local arrangements. That day we spent hours trying to get him comfortable after the transfer, only to have to traumatize him again. Miss P's attitude and lack of communication were appalling. We were told that they could transfer John to Los Angeles community hospital. That was the solution offered. We even asked if we could pay out of pocket for the rest of the night so we could figure out where to go. Miss P said that we could hire a "sitter" out of pocket but she didn't known of any locally. She said she hadn't even reviewed his file until then and if she known earlier she would not have approved his as a resident. She behaved as though that was John's fault. The multiple administrative failures that created this chaos were egregious and incompetent. After hours of tears and phone calls the decision was made to take him home. To a two story house. In my car. No one offered to help with arranging transport or even checked in on John. In fact, after his initial assessment not one person ever looked in on him. My boyfriend sat with him for the hours it took us trying to find a new place. He sat with John trying to calm him through the confusion and not one person ever checked in. (Jesse did bring in a dinner tray though. So, thank you!) Having to move a loved one into a facility is never easy, even when it is one as nice as Palmcrest, but Palmcrest made it Hell. It was unnecessarily cruel, thoughtless, and inhumane. I can't speak to the long term care of Palmcrest. It really does seem like a clean facility and there aren't many out there. Trust me, we looked at many. One more thing to note...every single doctor, memory care facility, and Home Health nurse we have spoken to since have been equally appalled by Palmcrest's treatment of the situation. Not just on a medical and professional level, but a simple human level. Our elderly and vulnerable loved ones deserve dignity and respect. John was shown neither. read more

This place is beat down, smells bad and the staff doesn't seem to give two cents about it. We will be filing a police report as this is the second time a theft has occurred here to my mother in law. The owner is a thief and a liar. The former employees sabotaged the files and computers which was a huge red flag. He told me they didn't do their job and didn't move ppl in the entire year they worked there which is very hard to believe. When I was hired the other employees immediately expressed disdain for the owner. I was told to use my money to buy marketing supplies and gas and wasn't paid for a month into working there. When I told them it was a burden I was ignored. Extremely unorganized beyond words. Made me wonder if that's how they treat employees how are they treating the residents there. The residents there gossiped of theft constantly. They let the receptionist fire me without pay which was bizarre beyond words. They refused to answer my phone calls or emails. I've never experienced such unprofessional behavior in my life. I wouldn't recommend working here and I wouldn't trust anything that Morris the owner says. The owner is so cheap and does not care about the residents. If you are ALW here or private pay guess what!? Your family will be eating nursing home food from the building right next door. Its disgusting that older people have to suffer there. Take a look around and you will see residents not so clean or cared for. If your family should happen to go to the hospital or god forbid pass away they will try and steal all the furniture and then some. The so called "administrators" will act like they care sooooo much about the resident's just to get your family in there for a paycheck. There are better facilities with better care! So after continuing to give my family the runaround, I have an update about the games these people play and the outright lies they tell. My sister and mother have both been dealing with a woman named Erin for MONTHS trying to get a refund. Erin at one point told my mom (over the phone) that the refund was coming. It never came. My sister spoke directly with Erin IN PERSON (more than once) and was told that "the check was in the mail." Of course, the check never arrived. Last week, while visiting another resident, my sister was approached by Erin again. She had seen my first Yelp review and wanted to "fix the situation." She told my sister that she had sent the payment a couple of months ago, but it had been returned. When my sister asked her what address it had been sent to and if she could see the returned mail, Erin said she didn't have it. Erin then told my sister that she had mailed the refund AGAIN (why would you mail something again if you're not sure the address is good?) and that it should arrive shortly. She then told my sister that if the refund didn't arrive by the weekend, she would personally cut her a check and she could come to the office and it pick up on Monday. She also asked my sister to ask me to take down the first review once we received the payment. Guess what? NOTHING FROM PALMCREST ARRIVED AT MY MOTHER'S HOUSE BY THE WEEKEND! Shocker, huh? My sister went to Palmcrest on Monday to speak with Erin AGAIN and get the check she promised during their last conversation. They decided to bring out another bad cop this time though. Now some guy named Russell meets with my sister to settle things. He started their meeting by handing her a letter full of bullshit condolences for the loss of my father, blah, blah, blah. Then the letter ends with an offer to give back roughly HALF of what my mom paid them IF my sister signed on the dotted line. THESE "PEOPLE" ARE ABSOLUTELY AWFUL!!!! They are so petty, greedy and heartless that they would make an 82-year widow on a fixed income chase them for money they owe her. My Dad ended up in the ER because of THEIR negligence and he was dead 6 weeks later. And I forgot to mention that once they finally did call my mom to let her know that he had been hospitalized, they informed her that he was not welcomed back. And even though he was only there a couple of days in January, they want to keep most of the money they were paid. That is not at all acceptable. We were willing to just accept a full refund of January's rent, but now it's time to continue with the court case. I'll also be filing a complaint with the Department of Social Services. I should have supported my Mom when she wanted to look into suing them for the broken finger injury he suffered when he fell on their watch because that place deserves no benefit of the doubt that they are horrible at caring for sick seniors. Seriously, anyone who reads this review should NOT place their loved one here unless you have absolutely, positively NO ALTERNATIVE. read more

My friend's husband was discharged from this facility in January because he was combative. His wife paid his monthly rent of $3,870.00 on the 3th of January 2019. The facility transferred him out to a local hospital days before informing his wife. Her husband died at the local hospital on January 6. Palmcrest Grand Retirement will not and have not reimbursed the wife for $3,800.00 for services they did not provide. They are robbing an 82 year widow, elder abuse. Shame on them!!! The above was posted April 2019: The 82 yr old elderly wife took Palmcrest Grand Retirement to court on June 18, 2019. Their defense for keeping her $3,800.00 was that she did not pick up her dead husband's belongings. Are you serious??? Was that storage fees? The judge stated he calculated a minimum of $2,600.00 was owed to the wife and he would make the final decision and let them know by mail. Be careful with this organization. read more

My mom and stepdad lived here when they were no longer able to live at home because of dementia and mobility problems. While I can't complain about any of the staff that actually works with the residents. I will say that they were chronically understaffed and I've since learned that they have been fined by regulators for it. This can be incredibly dangerous, as when my mother fell and could not reach the call button, she was on the floor for nearly twelve hours before a staff member discovered her. We signed her up for Life Alert to avoid this problem ever happening again, but part of the reason she lived in the facility was for the immediate care and supervision I am unable to provide at home. She now lives in a specialized facility for dementia patients because Palmcrest is simply understaffed and unprepared for this type of care. read more

We recently had to move our 100-year old uncle from Palmcrest Grand and there is nothing grand about the place! His room was dirty, clothes laying everywhere, couldn't tell what was clean and what was dirty! Dust bunnies everywhere!! And now they won't even forward his mail! Our family looked at multiple facilities before placing our dad at Palmcrest Grand. There are some horrible facilities out there where patients are living in run down, unclean places. After four months, I can honestly say that we are so relieved to have found Palmcrest. Our dad (85 yrs old) is very happy there. He constantly comments on how nice every single person is there and how respectful they treat him. And since a member of our family visits daily, we see it first hand. My initial contact was with Rhonda on the phone and it was because she was so kind, informative and showed compassion that we went to look at it. First impression is everything. She, and honestly, all the staff have been great to work with. They have a dining room where they eat 3 meals per day. There are snacks and additional meals if wanted. They have a very full activity calendar. They have a pool table, movie theatre, several TV areas, free WIFI, hair salon, etc. Our dad's doctor goes to the facility to see him. They have a podiatrist that sees patients every other month or so. Even a mental health professional to access the patient's mental health. Labs and xrays can be done on site as well. read more

We recently brought my father in law to this home. What a wonderful environment! The staff is friendly, and so good natured, and they do so much for their residents. This is truly a wonderful place, and my husband and I are at peace because he actually has more of a social life now and not bored like he was at home. I recently moved my stepdad into this home. They were in the process of remodeling, but I saw enough to ease my concerns. I went ahead and moved him in, and since then, I've been able to rest easy. I visit religiously, once a week, and it's great to see things are getting better everyday. I'm feeling more and more comfortable. RUN! This place use to be acceptable at best, but the past year the owner has taken away activities; events; raised rent; understaffed and most caregivers are not licensed. Food is horrible and served cold. Doesn't matter if resident is diabetic, allergies or whatever, they are all served the same slop. Items are taken from residents rooms and a lot of times, their cloths are given to someone else even if their name is inside. Maybe they should bring in a few snakes to eat the mice and rats that live there too. Photos below are old so not of any use. Only 2 elevators and small ones at that so if a fire did break out, the residents on the second floor would not stand a chance. RUN! read more

Nothing but a Hellhole! Do NOT let your family live here! This place has a tremendous turnover of staff and owners. They didn't provide the care for my Mom that we paid for. She fell numerous times, sores on her legs, the food is unacceptable crap. When she went to the hospital due to a fall, her room was ransacked. They post No Smoking signs but, they do not enforce the no smoking. In fact, Staff smokes with residents in the No Smoking area. The outside of the facilty is filthy, with trash, cigerette butts and stray cats. This place resembles and is maintained like an orphanage for the elderly! STAY AWAY! read more

PALM CREST GRAND IS AN ASSISTED LIVING FACILITY. The care my brother received was very poor . He had a broken arm , scabies,dehydration and was left soiled several times a day.When i visit him ,i noticed body odor,soiled clothes,lack of staff,no empathy,uneducated staff. I have no confidence in the staff or the administration. There was a great deal of patients worried about their medications.there was lack of communication with the staff and the residence. Please if you love your love ones , don"t bring them here. They lose clothes,infested with scabies. I am a nurse my self. I would not ever work at a facility like this one. We put our father in law in assisted living in September, and we are so glad that we did. Not only does the facility look great, but the ambiance and the staff are wonderful. My husband and I visit weekly and are very impressed with the activities and caring staff. Everyone does a great job in this facility; from signing in up front to the kitchen staff, the caregivers and the nursing staff, they are so very kind to the residents. One person who directs and orchestrates the day to day activities is the assistant director. She is such a fantastic person, great personality, but if I have a question and call her, she is so helpful. She genuinely cares about all the residents, staff workers and families. We are so lucky to have great management staff at this great place of residence. This is an incredible place! read more

In response you Morris' response that he never heard any complaints from us about the experience of my aunt at Palmcrest, all I have to say is that Morris has completely forgotten--or repressed--our bi-weekly in-person meetings with him in his office about our complaints about Palmcrest. I even gave Morris a typed three page list of complaints that he said "he would address" with no improvement at all. I will gladly send you once again the list of complaints that I have sent to and discussed with Morris, with few if any resolutions to our complaints. That is why we took our aunt out of Palmcrest after six months. Morris finally passed us off to Russel, who (after one meeting with him with no resolution to our several complaints--see my original comments on Yelp) ignored us while we sat and waited for over two hours for him to talk to us-- and never even acknowledged us sitting there. I'll never for give him for treating us with such indifference, as I perceived it. We couldn't get her out of Palmcrest fast enough so that she could finally eat palatable, warm food, get memory stimulation by a staff trained in memory care, and receive social interaction with others like at her current memory care facility in Cerritos. Yes, we complained a lot while there at Palmcrest, but no one was able to address our complaints, which finally ended up in a complete ignoring of us. Unacceptable and outrageous response by Moishe and Morris' revised response to our complaints on Yelp filed several months ago. We will never put another loved one at Palmcrest, based upon our bad experience at Palmcrest. So glad our aunt is now in the Cerritos memory care facility and far away from Palmcrest. read more

My Mother lived at Palmcrest for 2 years before she passed in September of 2014. She had mild dimentia and could not live at home any more. She stayed at a few different places but when she came to Palmcrest she was home. Not sure about all of these negative reviews but I went there every week and the staff is amazing. They care. They talked to me about problems we were having and they helped me so much. The food is awesome. I ate in the dining room with her several times. She even got them to put mexican food on the menu more often. LOL. They had really cool entertainment, music, church. She loved going to the beauty salon. They had really good BBQ celebrations on the big back patio. I cannot say enough good things about this place. They cleaned every day and were so patient with her. I truly appreciate everything they did to make my Mother so comfortable, entertained and happy. Oh and the bingo and blackjack she LOVED it. I will always recommend this facility to anyone I know who needs a place for their parents. Heck I may end up there. Thanks again Palmcrest. read more

I love everything about this place. Palmcrest doesn't look like much on the outside, but once you are inside, it is like a nice hotel. The place is spotless and well cared for. My mother has her own private and spacious room and bathroom. The large staff of care givers at Palmcrest is amazing. They are kind and caring and always there when needed. My mother needs to be lifted out of bed to get in her wheelchair and then a caregiver cheerfully wheels her down to the dining room or activity room. The food served is good (I have tasted it) and the menu changes daily. There is no eating the same old thing over and over. They stress socialization at Palmcrest, so there are several activities offered every day (residents are given a schedule of activities for the month, so they know what to look forward to). There is bingo, Family Feud, Uno, trivia, ice cream socials and more, all planned and overseen by a fabulous activities director named Angelica. My mom would have nothing to do with any of these activities when she first moved in, becase she thought they were corny. But after a couple of weeks, she started enjoying being around her fellow residents and the friendly Angelica. She even participates in morning exercises (while in her wheel chair) once in awhile. This place has its own hair salon and even a movie theater! I read that the number one thing you can do to keep yourself mentally sharp as you grow older is to have an active social life. That's what Palmcrest obviously believes and strives to offer its residents. My wife and I visited many other care facilities besides this one, and when the administrator named Erin took us on a tour, it seemed to good to be true. After we got home, we realized that we wanted to know even more about the place before making a decision. So we called Erin and made another appointment. Erin was super enthusiastic and proud to show us every aspect of Palmcrest. This time we got to see residents enjoying a game in the activities room. We saw the food being prepared for lunch. We met about a dozen care-givers, including the full-time nurse. Erin showed us what the bedrooms looked like. We even went into the movie theater. We were sold! Every time I visit my mother, she has a smile on her face, and she invariably remarks, "I can't believe you found this place. The food is great and everybody is so nice." read more

When my dad's dementia took a turn for the worse last December, we quickly had to find a place to care for him because my girlfriend and I, as well as a caregiver, were all working together 24/7 to take care of him and we just couldn't do it anymore. We did some research over the web on four or five residences, but something told us to visit Palmcrest first. When we got there, Lynda was so personable, so helpful, so "real" and easy to talk to that we immediately felt like this was the kind of personal, direct connection that we were going to need if my father was going to be living away from us. As we were touring the facility - which is really nice, warm, inviting, and clean - the residents were pleasant and the one disruption we noticed (a woman yelling) was handled so gracefully by a caregiver that the woman quieted down in just a few seconds. The whole time we were there we repeatedly saw the workers being sweet to the residents, saying hi, joking with them. Not only were they so nice and supportive of my father, but the thing that we really loved was that WE were being cared for like family. We could walk in and run right into Lynda, or a caregiver would see us and come over to tell us what dad did last night, or we'd round the corner and stick our head into the main office to talk to Rich who runs the place. It felt like extended family helping us out as opposed to a highly-regulated and overly official corporate system. It was so easy to get things done because there was no red tape and we could talk directly to whomever we needed to talk to. Our friend's father is at the much more expensive Sunrise Retirement Home and it was not warm and "homey" in the way Palmcrest is. As my father's condition worsened near the end, he was causing all sorts of disruption for the night caregivers. Palmcrest had to put an additional caregiver on evening duty just to handle my dad. We felt so bad for the impact he was having on the facility, but they just took it in stride and told us not to feel guilty. They were so supportive. Rich talked with us personally to help us decide on options for making things run smoother. It was like everyone at every level connected with us and cared. Lastly, it is located about 15 feet away from the next door building which is owned by a different company but is called the Palmcrest Convalescent center or skilled nursing center. They are simply amazing angels as well. Palmcrest Grand Retirement was a complete solution for us and it feels like a miracle and a blessing that they were there for us. I highly recommend placing your loved one there. read more

MY VERY Independent grandmother sold her house and moved into this assisted living paying over 3,000 dollars a month out of pocket to be on her dying days less than 6 months later. My grandma has been left in her room and gone unnoticed for 4 days with out eating, contracted MRSA and PROTUES from cutting her legs after two falls as they were assisting her into a taxi. The food is terrible and they continued to cook with spinach which she is highly allergic to. Bed sores, denial of medication and denial to see a doctor. She now has two new heart conditions and dermatitis. Please. PLEASE, do not allow a living breathing human being to live in this facility. The staff ignores all of the other patients and are on their cell phones 24/7!! They have stole and searched all of my gmas personal belongings. The med techs are rude and have terrible broken english. A place for mom ended their contract after placing my gma because of the several lawsuits against this place. I find it so sad that places like this exist and that the younger generations feel the right to neglect and abuse the ones that brought us into this world! Stay away!! read more

The People are the Best! As my father aged and had some health problems, he was unable to live on his own and moved into Palmcrest Grand Residence. The meals are cooked by an outstanding staff. There are several activities that provide outlets for the residents. I don't have any complaints about the facility and in fact have many positives. However, one thing was really special about Palmcrest the PEOPLE. The staff is so helpful and thoughtful. They must hire people who have this pre-disposition and it really shows. I have never been around more helpful, patient, and positive people (from the director to the nursing staff to the administrative staff). If you are considering an assisted living facility for your loved one, I would definitely recommend this one. Just visit the facility and meet the people who work there.
