While there, we decided to go see Top Gun: Maverick. We relish watching this film cause to tell you the truth, we are from San Diego, where this fictional story originate and where it was filmed. So when we saw this film showing at the Multicines Filmax, which was near our Hotel Porta Fira, we gladly jumped at paying the admission, and as an added bonus in 4DX. Multicines Filmax is on the top level within the Gran Via 2 shopping center. The shopping center is only a 5 minutes walk from the Europa/Fira subway station on the L8 & L9 line. It is a modern multiplex theatre showing mainly films in Spanish and the occasional VOSE pictures. Let's start with the lobby; consists of a nice concession stands selling the usual popcorns and drinks. I must say the jumbo popcorn in Spain are larger than my local theatre in San Diego. There is two type of popcorn, plain and sweet. I saw an even mix of patrons between the two, but the sweet slightly edge out the plain on my visit. There is also a larger selections of confectionaries that I normally don't find at home. A plus is an adjacent video arcade, something that has long gone here in the US, other than Dave & Buster. The seats are assigned at the time of purchase, a trend I have seen worldwide in recent years as theatres attempt to combat people sneaking in to see multi films on one ticket purchase. Despite our limited Catalan, the staff selected good seats for us and that was much appreciated. The 4DX experience is a thrill no matter where in the world you are. The sounds, the shakes, and the snowflakes, all contributed to the in movies experience. Overall, we had such a fun time at the movies. Side note, even our taxi driver recommended this theatre. He said that lots of locals come from surrounding community come to catch the latest flix at this multicines. After the movie, we ate at a local restaurant in the mall before walking back to our hotel. Final thoughts; this review is not about the physical structure of the movie theatre. The theatre itself is no different than any modern theatres you find at your local mall. The five star ratings is about the people that helped us along our journey to see a simple film. Despite the language barrier and the state obvious that we are tourist, we deeply appreciate the helpfulness of the staff trying to decipher our wants and needs. From the elementary Catalan we spoke to the hands gestures of charade. We always felt welcome by the staff and that has left a sentimental impression of both our movie viewing experiences and our visit to Barcelona.

Today I saw The Batman at 1130a. On a Monday. In Barcelona. This is basically the definition of impossible. They don't do matinees here. They especially don't do weekday matinees here. And they especially especially absolutely do not do VOSE weekday matinees here. In short: cha-ching. Beautifully maintained premises, ticket sale via front of house automation, legit concession, comfortable seats (though the arms don't move and the orientation is upward), but maybe my favorite thing? Reverence. The exit sign was turned off during the movie. And no other light, noise (think hvac), or otherwise nuisance invaded the viewing space. Gadzooks this hit the marks! I will 100% be back. Thank you Verdi, thank you thank you thank you -

Verdi's a sweet spot. Movie theatre's are all a bit similar in many ways, but these are the three…read morereasons I particularly love Verdi: 1.) Location, location, location! Verdi's surrounded by an *awesome* collection of bars and restaurants: perfect for grabbing a bite to eat before a film, or having a drink while doing some post-flick reflection. You'll never tire of the options! 2.) VOSE! Sometimes I like to see American films in, well, English! Verdi's all about subtitling (just saw Hannah Arendt in German and English--fabulous!), so it's great if you want to practice your language, or just watch a film as it was made, in the vernacular! 3.) Verdi's a solid, clean movie theatre with an awesome selection. Sometimes theatre's miss the spot...they either have weird/disappointing offerings or don't take care of their facilities. Not so at Verdi: you're bound to have an enjoyable time! One thing I'd change? The price...life is expensive, and at 9€ a pop, a visit to Verdi isn't like going to the Filmoteca. But then again, Verdi's better than most of your other options. Enjoy!

The prices are very reasonable (as far as prices go for first-run movies), and the snack bar has pretty standard prices and offerings. The seats in many of the salons leave some to be desired... for a 90-120 minute movie, they're tolerable. But for anything longer, I find myself squirming to try to get comfortable. Your best bet is to avoid the seats in the center, and select instead the ones toward the periphery, that are not as "broken in."

Taking into account that the spanish average salary is much less than the american, it is a steal. There is no way a family is going to go to the movies on a sunday evening with the kids, no way. Also, as usual, popcorn and drinks are outrageously expensive. It is one of the only theaters in Barcelona playing in original version, but is a kind of far from downtown. It's close to the beach tho. Its on a mall (-1 level) and the seats are comfortable. Our screen was kind of small, but this happens a lot in this type of theaters in Spain. I will go again if its the only theater playing the movie I like in Original version, that's it
