It is hard to get mirror image since there are a lot of kid running around and create the wave on the water surface. It is difficult to get still water surface like mirror. At the time, it was rung to signify the beginning of the grape harvest, but also to warn of fires and for special holidays. It's a gorgeous landmark and a remarkable slice of history. La Grosse Cloche était le beffroi de l'Hôtel de ville au Moyen-Age et pendant l'Ancien Régime et figure toujours sur le symbole des armories de Bordeaux. A l'époque, elle était formée de 4 tours, puis ensuite 6. Aujourd'hui, seules 2 tours font encore partie du paysage. C'est Henri II au 16ème siècle qui ajouta au monument la cloche et l'horloge. La Grosse Cloche fut restaurée après l'incendie de 1757 qui détruisit une partie du beffroi. Dès la tombée de la nuit, elle s'éclaire et se pare d'une jolie couleur bleue pour le plaisir des passants et des habitants du quartier.

The 17 arches are supposedly for the letters in the name Napoleon Bonaparte. Three intertwined crescents adorn the bridge as the coat of arms of Bordeaux. It's beautiful from the river and over the river. We had to wait for about 30 minutes as tides changed before our river boat was allowed to go under the bridge. My husband and I rode bikes over the bridge and enjoyed the view. This was the only bridge until 1965.
