The drain of the water is to purify it. The name of this attraction is call Water Mirror. It is hard to get mirror image since there are a lot of kid running around and create the wave on the water surface. It is difficult to get still water surface like mirror. May be late at night when no one around. Once the water surface is still, it will reflect the place de la Bourse. This water mirror becomes the famous picture for the viewing.

At first I thought they were spoiling it slightly and then I joined them and changed my mind pretty quickly. Huge, impressive, massive water fountain with crazy statues all around it. The 17 arches are supposedly for the letters in the name Napoleon Bonaparte. Three intertwined crescents adorn the bridge as the coat of arms of Bordeaux. It's beautiful from the river and over the river. We had to wait for about 30 minutes as tides changed before our river boat was allowed to go under the bridge. My husband and I rode bikes over the bridge and enjoyed the view. This was the only bridge until 1965.
