"Petrie Park- an oasis in Kaimuki"…read more Great little community park next to Waialae elementary school. They have outdoor tennis, volleyball and basketball courts and a nice grassy field for little league baseball games and practices. Like all facilities while still under pandemic restrictions, be sure to follow the protocols in effect at the time of your visit. The views from the upper part of the park on 20th Ave. are quite nice, especially during sunrise. During normal in-school class days, most of the street between the school and the park is closed. On the mauka side there is access to a couple of parking stalls for your use when using the park. An interesting side note is that the park's rec. bldg. next to the children's playground equipment area used to be an open pavillion that was one of the coolest places to sit. The tradewinds would roll through with a sweet breeze as you sat and kicked back to daydream during the lazy days of summer.

I will have to admit I have a soft spot for this park, as my friends & I use to hang out at this park during our Intermediate, errr............or should I say middle school dayz. I even played park league b-ball for Petrie park back in da dayz...........and if I can find da vintage pic, I'll post it for you folks, so you can get a good laugh! Buwahahahahaha! Petrie Community Park is not overly big, but it has a little of something for everyone (for all ages). Petrie park has several basketball courts, tennis courts, a volleyball court, a jungle gym for the kiddies, and a large field for kids to play soccer, baseball, as well as football. There are also several benches & picnic tables on the park premises, should you wanna eat there, or watch the kiddies. In my recent visits here, I could clearly see that the field could use some water, as the grass was pretty brown & dried up...........but of course summer is just around the corner, so I guess maybe the city is trying to save water? There is also a office pavilion, as well as a restroom at Petrie park, but be careful if you come here at night, as I saw some sketchy element hanging & loitering around the restroom area. There is no private parking lot for this park, but not to fret as there is a lot of street parking within the Kaimuki neighborhood. Through the years, not much has changed at this park since I used to hang here as a kid, but glad to see folks still bring kids here to enjoy this nice community park.

My friends and I would always go to this park during the summer to play basketball. It was a great park to play basketball at. I had some great memories at this park. But now many many years later, there's no more basketball playing yet, and instead it's playground equipment. It was my first time checking out the playground equipment and I was kind of disappointed. The equipment itself was still in working condition but there was a lot of rust on the edges of the equipment. I had to watch my daughter really carefully to see where she was putting her hands when she climbed up the stairs. The ground cover was also peeling off in some areas. Hopefully they'll get their playground equipment upgraded like other parks soon.

However, the only thing I would say is to watch out if you happen to visit when it's raining! The park does get a little muddy, so prepare for that when planning picnics or get togethers! Overall, Beautiful place to go for a walk or jog! The park is not that loud too, so it's pretty peaceful when passing by.

So I've been trying to find parks with different types of equipment. I'm like a park stalker, haha. While driving, I'd look out at parks and check out the equipment at the parks. I've seen quite a few ones but then I look at the reviews on Yelp and it turns me away. Reviews say that there's a lot of homeless or theft there. But today I discovered a website that's shows me all the playground equipment at all the parks. And I found this great park today. It's really close to my home so I'm so glad that I found it. My daughter loves this park. She's quite a monkey and she loves to climb the apparatus. She went up the stairs and down the slide many times. They also had a disk where you could stand or sit and you could spin on it. We don't have that at our neighborhood park. I showed her how to do it and she loved it. She kept wanting to do it over and over again. She spun around so much and was laughing the whole time. In addition to the playground equipment they also have a big area where you can have a picnic or lunch. They have several picnic tables to sit at. They also have a tennis court, basketball court, and volleyball court. Best park I've been to so far! I will definitely come back soon!

Discovering a new park while trying to figure out dinner plans is even more epic. The Hawaii Kai neighborhood is often a quiet one, so I was interested in finding the Hahaione Valley Neighborhood park deep in the valley is always a blessing when I needed a place of solace to sort out what life has dealt to me on this particular day It was also a time to think about what was for dinner on a casual Sunday afternoon in April 2020. I arrived here around 4:30pm via public transportation. Only 1 route on The Bus comes through this stretch of paradise. This route is route 1L and 80A and probably only on the eastbound direction. It stops in front of the park, which is awesome! During my most recent stay at the Hahaione Valley Neighborhood park, I tended to just slow walk around the perimeter of the park (as most of my experiences at local parks are these days) and check out what this park has to offer. The plus side is that there's nice gym equipment for kids to play and families to gather here for an evening to spend time together. The equipment doesn't look aged at all and the park itself seems maintained on a weekly basis. There is also a nice tennis court on the property, which is nice for anyone who loves a pick up game of tennis. I should get back into it sometime when I am not running. I spent about an hour here relaxing, enjoying, and walking through the park before making my lunch plans. It's always nice to have the park do your serious thinking for you. The overall experience here at the Hahaione Valley Neighborhood park is classified as subtle, classic, and quiet. The wind that comes through the area is always brisk and sometimes breezy too. While I was here at the Hahaione Valley Neighborhood park, there was just a few of people here, not including myself. Neighborhood parks are a great and inexpensive way to spend the day without having to spend money. Of course, you can walk and cruise the mall, but chances are you don't spend money at a park. I love the groomed nature of the park and how neat and organized everything here is. I do enjoy the park picnic benches that are around the park. It's nice to be able to sit here and enjoy yourself while having an outside lunch or dinner before heading home. The quiet ambiance of Hahaione Valley Neighborhood park is what excites me when I can come back here. For the most part though, I ended up walking around the perimeter of the park, which isn't too far around. I also people watched as something to do while doing those laps. I enjoyed the fact that this neighborhood park is definitely clean and away from basically everything and off the main road. If you ever need the mental time off, consider coming here to rest and recharge. Although the 2020 pandemic can be a problem, do what you can so that the Hahaione Valley Neighborhood park can be of value to you. I'd recommend coming here if you are in the area and worth every second being here. It made me smile and hope it will bring you happiness too. The Hahaione Valley Neighborhood park has been a fun and soothing discovery. I'm glad that there is no visible homeless situation here - at least during the day. One major turn off when I come to neighborhood parks is the tents and all the garbage that's haphazardly on the property. I enjoyed my experience here at the Hahaione Valley Neighborhood park, especially because it is tucked away into the residential area. It makes for a perfect peaceful getaway that's sure to please anyone and everyone who comes here. The park its great for families and individuals. It's physical address is 785 Ainapo Street in the heart of Hawaii Kai. Like all community and neighborhood parks, there is no admission fee, which is awesome and expected. As far as parking goes, your best bet would be to try to find street parking on residential roads wherever you can to be as close to the park as possible. Let mother nature take you where you want to be. Consider coming to Hahaione Valley Neighborhood park for a session. 5.0 stars for the overall experience. Oh they have a restroom facility on site. Note: Don't go during school pick up times around 2 pm, if I recall correctly. Out of Ala Moana Park and Diamond Head TC, these courts are less cracked and hurt my body less afterwards. The downside was there was no shade so it was really hot in the early afternoon. It didn't start to cool down until 4 pm, right around the time some people were coming in for lessons in the next court (there's 2). Overall, nicer courts to hit balls. Wish it was cooler, near the ocean. Maybe will trying coming in the evening. The woman's toilet (only one stall) was surprisingly clean

They also have playground equipment for kids and tennis courts. It's a beautiful park and it is very well maintained. All of the courts are clean, no ripped basket nets, and no holes in the court. My daughter had fun playing on the playground equipment. It was just like other parks but it had a different bridge. They had a bridge that was a little more complicated and had feet placement steps instead of just a straight bridge. It took a little more skill to balance. Overall I'd come back here. I liked the playground and the basketball courts. Seems like a very safe park to play at.

Wailupe Community Park is a family friendly community park that is definitely away from the main thoroughfare. I found this place while meandering thru the area and thought it would be a nice place to chill on a Saturday afternoon after hanging out at Ala Moana shopping center. Maybe while I'm here, draft a Yelp review or two. I spent about 2 hours here in January 2024 and another 2 in February 2024. Best to file a review, eh? During the times I was here, it was a relaxing time for me to just enjoy being alive and having that downtime between work and life. With that said, I usually see people playing organized sports, since there is a playable basketball court, but you'd have to supply your own basketball. It's nice to people watch here as I usually do while trying to destress from the crazy stuff we call life. I enjoy people watching as well as drafting Yelp reviews while sitting here in Wailupe community park. The cool thing about the area is that it is very quiet and you get the serenades of serenity and quiet amongst the residential neighborhood it serves. The Wailupe Community park is well maintained by the good folks of the Department of Parks & Recreation - City and County of Honolulu. The area is nicely groomed and certainly Lush with vegetation and just nice to be surrounded by. Come on by if you have a few moments to spare. Sometimes, these community parks can show you a thing or two when the hustle and bustle of life won't. The overall experience here at the Wailupe Community Park was always good and suitable for me when I come here. Serene and perfect formula of residential and quiet always is a good thing if you don't want to be indoors and not in a library. During my experiences here, people watching is usually my thing as well as watching various games and pets and their humans. I didn't have a basketball so I didn't play. Just sat down on a park bench and simply enjoyed the weekend afternoon. Quiet and peaceful while enjoying the afternoon in the upper Aina Haina valley. The park itself is relatively small compared to others on the island but it's quaint and beautiful. Like all community parks, it's a place where all in the community can gather and enjoy the benefits of living and the open spaces that's not your home or business. For the most part though, the intoxicating nature of being here is strong and definitely worthwhile to come and decompress. It's totally free and easy to get to, if you don't mind the drive or a bus ride. Pro tip is bring food or drink to have a meal with a view. Maybe I should do this in future travel to Wailupe Community Park. And so, it's a place that's off the beaten path, since it's nestled in residential surroundings. Local flavor never was so good when it comes to community parks and Wailupe Community Park has it all. Come on by and sit. Nature and people at its best. Wailupe Community Park is located in the upper Aina Haina valley in East Oahu. Like all community parks across the island, they are admission free. Totally free! It's awesome and amazing! Just come as you are and you'll be okay. As far as parking goes, your best bet is to grab any residential parking that is nearby or just nearby. When I was there, there was a generous helping of parking spots available on neighborhood streets nearby. I'm not sure if there is actually a private parking option for the park itself, but, I'll probably check on my next outing there. If you're like me, the only bus that comes up here, is the route 18/24. The bus stops just about half a block away from the park and it is definitely walkable. It is a nice direct line between Ala Moana shopping center and Wailupe community Park. You can also catch route 1 or route 23 but it's a walk from Aina Haina shopping center / Kalanianaole Hwy. Definirely worth the trip. Hidden gem for sure. 5.0 stars for the overall experience. Soothing and refreshing. Support local! A+
