I have to say I'm shocked to see so many glowing reviews. Painting plus ruined the siding on my house. I also continue to find splattered stain on windows, roofing, vents, just about everywhere. I'll include some pictures for your viewing pleasure. The splotchy finish on the front facade of my house (which Derrick said I wouldn't notice after a couple months but is still glaring a year and a half later) is probably the thing that annoys me the most. That's a tough call to make though since my house is covered in gouge marks from their inept power washer. I'll say this - Derrick s a nice guy and their bid was the most competitive, but you definitely get what you pay for and I'm kicking myself for going with Painting Plus. Long story short - their power washer gouged every side of my house. He also washed a recessed doorway without thinking about where the water would drain and flooded my basement, ruining the ceiling. Painting Plus patched the hole in the ceiling but were unable to match the finish and unwilling to repaint the entire ceiling so I'm also left with that to enjoy (and fix with someone better in the future) In the end, I tried to work with Derrick. I told him to come out and see what I was left with and if he felt it was representative of their quality then I'd pay the full price he was asking. **UPDATE 3/22/19** I want to express my thanks to KR and the ownership of Painting Plus of Boulder. There is no doubt that they are sincere when they say that they care and want to make it right. KR and 1 of his crew guys came back and spent a day making everything right. The finished product is great and I believe that they learned something about a crew that they may not have known. Despite the original issues, they made an incredible effort and for that I am thankful - a lesser company would have walked away and not taken the time to make things right. If it wasn't for the original issues or if it was solely based on my experience with the owners and KR, I would have left 5 stars. After all was said and done, I am happy with the job that they did. *Original Review* Everything started out great - KR was on time for the appointment for a quote and was very responsive when it came to questions about their services and about pricing. What did not go well was the actual job. When it came to protecting the home and floors from over spray. Paint on the wood floors, paint on the gas fireplace, paint in the grout of the tile, paint on the shower glass, paint on door hinges and plates. They even lost some of the hinges and just hung the doors up without them. They attempted to come to the house and correct some of the issues and literally made it worse by getting espresso paint on our new carpet - we had to have the carpet in that area replaced. They also were supposed to fix a crack in the ceiling and the caulk they put in there lasted for about a week. read more

We had a horrible experience with Painting Plus and would not recommend them. We recently hired them to paint the exterior of our home. We live in an old house from the 1920s, the exterior paint tested positive for lead so it needed to be mitigated prior to painting. The lead paint issue was a significant concern for us because we have a 10-month old. After talking to a few different companies we decided to go with Painting Plus because they claimed to have the EPA certification to properly do the mitigation work. In our conversation with their office team about the project we went back and forth to make sure we were aligned on our expectations that the lead paint would be properly handled. The day their painting crew started working it became clear that the people doing the work were not similarly qualified to deal with lead paint. After calling their office, the Project Manager arrived and showed the contracted crew what they were supposed to do and how things needed to be covered. They seemed to do an okay job scraping the paint onto the tarps but at the end of the first day care was not taken during clean-up and the scraped paint chips were scattered all around our yard. When we brought up this concern during the project we were told all debris would be removed before they were done. However, at the end of the job there were still paint chips everywhere. We reached out again and, though a group of people came back to pick up droppings, a lot of the pieces made their way all around our property--it was an impossible task. The majority of the big pieces were removed but we are still finding lead paint chips, which unfortunately makes us fairly uncomfortable to have our young child play outside. On top of this: * The preparation was not done well, the scope of work said they would thoroughly scrape and sand. Not all surfaces were scrapped and no sanding was done. Less than a month after they completed the job, there are places where the new paint has already scrapped off and others where the paint is bubbling and peeling on top of the old (lead) paint that was not thoroughly removed. * The scope of work outlined that two coats would be applied to all surfaces, the painting crew constantly tried to cut corners and apply one coat. Since the Project Manager was not on site while the work was being performed, we were left to hold the painters accountable to do the second coat. In spite of multiple conversations with the head painter, after the work was completed it was clear that two coats were not applied in all places as not all coverage was uniform. (They did apply another coat where the coverage was visibly insufficient when they came back to pick up the scattered scraped paint chips). * The scope of the work said "Include doors." The doors were previously painted, they did not sand nor prep the doors for painting and they pushed back on painting the interior of the doors. * We cleared all of our landscaping away from the house before the work began as requested, unfortunately a lot of plants were trampled and will need to be replaced. * Workers were drinking alcohol while working. They offered to come back for a third time but at that point we were exhausted by the process and lacked faith the outcome would (or even could) be as originally promised. The omission of someone on site all day actually from Painting Plus to ensure the work was being done as specified caused major issues in safety, quality, and accountability. In hindsight, we wish they would have disclosed that the EPA Certificate Holder would not be on-site during the lead mitigation work to make sure it was done correctly. We are now left with the exact situation we sought--and paid a premium--to avoid. Not to mention the subpar paint job that will inevitably need to be redone. This was an incredibly disappointing experience from start to finish with a company that lacked professionalism and respect for our home, if we could go back choose a different company to work with we would in a heartbeat. read more

I had a small job consisting of painting some new exterior door trim, repairing a chimney, and sealing/painting a section of fascia. The guy came, did the work, then left within a few hours time. Discovered that he only painted 1 coat on the door trim and did not bother to sand or prep the wood. He did not even do the fascia painting. I complained about the fascia not being done and have not paid, but never heard back. So no money lost It's a year later and the door trim is now peeling and wood is exposed. I had my house painted in September of 2020. Originally, I thought they did a great job. Unfortunately, when my house was being painted, my wrist was broken. After it healed which took some time, I realized that Painting Plus of Boulder painted all my windows shut. I have spent a couple of hours just getting two unstuck. Two windows are up on the second story and I am not sure how I am going to get them unstuck. Also, they were nice enough to remove and reinstall my screens for me. But they put the screens back up when the paint was wet. Now I can't get many of them off. This has been horrible, I would not recommend them to paint your house. ****I am updating this review. Derrick, Scott, and the crew are phenomenal to work with. I priced out several companies and Painting Plus was the most competitive. We purchased an older home in Louisville that needed updating and had them remove popcorn ceilings, remove wallpaper, and paint most of the interior. Communication was awesome. They responded quickly to all calls, emails, and texts. Derrick was also a great and patient resource, helping us pick the right textures and colors for our ceilings and walls and listened to all of our concerns. We had Painting Plus of Boulder out to our house in Louisville just prior to the Fourth of July this year. Our 1982 build hadn't been painted in over ten years and was in pretty bad shape cosmetically. In addition to extensive prep work needed on all of our siding and trim, we had trim pieces that needed replacing because they were rotten or broken. The PPoB crew did an outstanding job repairing and preparing our house for paint. They had planned to finish all prep in one day but didn't cut any corners and ended up spending one and a half on it. When it came time for paint they took time first to make sure they we were in complete agreement on the plan. Afterwards, they left yard and parameter picked up and neat. Our house looks amazing and we couldn't be more grateful for the work the guys at Painting Plus of Boulder did for us. Painting Plus painted my house recently and I am very happy with the results. Partway through the job we had an unexpected (and long) cold snap in Boulder, but the Painting Plus guys stayed in constant communication with me, and when it warmed up they were back to finish the job. After that there was just a small amount of touch-up that I asked them to do, and they came back immediately to take care of it. We waited several years too long, likely, to have our house painted, but had two quotes, chose to go with Painting Plus and were very happy that we did. I imagine house-painting is a tough business, low margins, etc. and so it would be easy to just rush to get things done and then hope not to have to involve oneself with the project again. We asked PP for a couple of things that we're sure slowed their business down with regard to (in our opinion) getting our job done right, and they really stepped up and met us on our terms. My wife and I moved to the Boulder vicinity last year and our house needed some refreshing. We hired Painting Plus to paint 2/3 of the first floor and up the stairs into the 2nd floor hallway. As a recently retired person, I can tell you that throughout my life I have never worked with a painting company that was as professional as Painting Plus. The workmen were punctual, polite, industrious, and professional in every way. They moved furniture out of their way and everything was taped off and covered so none of our furniture or rugs got any dust or paint on them. They delivered superior results with only three trivial (smooth this edge here or there) touch-ups at the end. Based on my experience, your don't need to research anyone else; just call Painting Plus and be done with it. Boy am I glad that we have them lined up to do the exterior in the Spring. read more

We've hired the group to paint our house. The work was done in the fall of 2014. The work was poorly done and we have seen cracking, chipping and peeling just months after the work was done, and year after year, it has continued. And it's been only barely 3 years that the work was done and the house looks in worst shape than before they touched it. See their Facebook page for pictures!!! The work was scheduled on a hot day (90+F). I thought the workers would start the sunny (south) side at 8am and paint according to the sun-exposure of the house. That would mean that after their lunch break, they could work in the shady north side of the house. But no, not all. The workers started on the north side at 8am (a rather fresh 8-am north side in the fall) and rotated following the sun, going east, south and then west. The paint buckets were left in the sun all the time, even when not in use (during their breaks). Guess what happens when you paint at too high temperature, it does not stay. Everybody can read the instructions on the paint container. Don't paint in direct sun exposure -guess what? The workers painted the south side all afternoon, in a blazing 90+F air temperature. Imagine the temperature of the surface being exposed to the sun hours after hours, probably 100+F and the poor workers under their protective suits and masks under the sun for hours on. No safe for the workers. Not good for the paint. In addition to that, the workers caulked needed areas, but guess what -did they wait for it to dry? No. Workers started painting on the fresh caulk. In a number of areas, the fillings did not settle well. A few months after the job, I contacted Milo and he sent someone to do the touch-ups of missing paint and fixing the cracks that already started showing. Six months later (Spring 2015), more cracks, peeling and chipping; called Milo again, and touch-ups were taken care of, in the fast pace, caulk not letting to dry, etc. As we worked in our yard all summer (gardening, playing with kids), we noticed more cracks, more chipping in many more areas. Called Milo again in the Fall and his response was something like "You know, your house shifts due to weather and so cracks and chipping will always occur, we are also booked and done for the rest of the Fall, so we will be in touch in the next spring (Spring 2016)". Only one year after an expensive paint job, one would expect that the house would look in good shape. But it wasn't. The paint that was chipping away was also removing the old paint and showing the bare wood of the house. The south side of the house has numerous areas of that. The patio is a complete disaster with inch-squares of bare wood. Right now (3 years after the work), the north side is showing defects, with strips of peeling down to bare wood. It seems that the workers were never trained to paint. Painting required a little bit of training, not rocket science, but respecting the temperature range for painting, the technique to paint depending on the surface roughness, the paint brushes to use depending on the areas to paint, the time to wait before another coat, etc. The workers were polite, kind and respectful, but with no training. The paint job is guaranteed 4 years, and within 3 years of the work, the house paint has degraded months after months. My husband does not want to deal with them anymore (even with one more year of guarantee) as they are not worth calling to make silly repairs (maybe on purpose). The fixes continue to make the house worst because areas are just been caulked on (without drying) and painted on, adding another layer of mess, which will only peel off in a year or two. It only felt like a money-maker. Paint a house, sure, we can do that, as fast as the workers can, just to take another money-maker job. I have pictures of the workers painting in full sun exposure, pictures of Milo doing the patchy job with bare hands because he is pissed at me calling him for cracks and peelings.
