The painter just left in the middle of the job after barely one hour of painting one side of the door and leaving the sides messy. He called two days ago to come to paint for us (1st flag). We negotiated a price he agreed to and he got a deposit yesterday and only painted the garage first day (for about 3 hours, letf at 2pm because he needed to do school pick up) with one coat with patches that needed touch-ups. He said he would work for 4 days, came with no tapes, prep materials and only had a tiny rolled paper, and was asking to use/borrow the blue painter tape from us (2nd flag). Never seeing a painter with no tapes or paper roll to cover door sides. We thought probably he needed money and could buy the materials first day. second day he came with nothing again. Before he arrived yesterday and today, we have cleared the space he was to start from, covered them up, and taped the door on both sides for him to make his work easier. We told him we wanted the baseboards sprayed for a smooth finish, and he agreed but later stated "roll/brush" and that the outcome would look "almost the same" because he didn't want to tape or prep the area for painting which was strange. We were willing to help tape and cover for him but this guy wasn't willing to take our help because he wanted to do a rush job and go. So we told him we wanted to spray and insisted on spraying, saying that we could help him as much as he wanted to tape and cover items. He said we will "slow him down". And he started to pack up. We told him to at least finish the one side of the door he started and touch up the garage, he said he will come back after we prep/tape up the house and next we saw was he cleaned up his equipment, put them in his truck and speed off. This is the first painter I have seeing that doesn't want to prep/tape the areas he wants to paint, and asking customers to do it and that they will slow him down still. He literally asked us yesterday if we were going to tape/cover before he arrives today. Do not use this guy for your job, I do not think he is skilled enough based on the outcome of his work and does not respect his job or customer service,. he can only do the bare minimum or a DIY and nothing at all. He will never apply a 2nd coat or touch up a messy area, This shouldn't be a formal business for anyone. if you decide to ever use him, hold on to deposit until he has worked for at least 8 hours or one day. While, he is happy today that he won and ran away, Nemesis will surely catch up with him. read more
