Carnitas Teresita is not in the touristy part of town, and there's no easy parking nearby, but…read moredon't let that stop you. This little stand knows it's way around a pig, and the locals flock here.
The menu is small, but that should be a good indicator that everything they serve is going to be simply delicious. Tacos, drinks and gorditas are all 10 pesos each, which, at the current US exchange rate is about 80 cents. 80 freaking cents for a juicy, flavorful gordita stuffed with carnitas, onion and cilantro. The chicharron is sold by weight, and for about 3 dollars you'll get a huge plate of this crispy, airy pig skin. You can also buy carnitas or chicharron by the pound to take it home (or back to your hotel for a delicious snack).
There was one man chopping up the carnitas and frying the chicharron, and another man distributing the plates and taking the money. It's a good system they had going, and both men were very friendly. We left a generous tip because it was well-deserved. This is one of our favorite meals in Playa.
