After an initial session or two, she is able to connect you with a therapist who is likely to best meet your needs. This saves you time, money, and the emotional investment you'd spend searching for a good fit on your own. I ended up staying with Sally, as she is a practicing therapist also, and have been a client for about a year. She is insightful, non-judgmental, warm and engaging. I needed someone to offer insight, thoughts, questions, etc. throughout a session, and she knows just when and how to ask that more challenging question, dig deeper, and/or let you have a minute to think and breathe. She gets it. I have grown because of Sally, and I can't recommend her highly enough.

My sales pitch for this business, which I think is a very novel idea worth investing in: Thinking…read moreabout getting or changing a therapist, but don't have time or emotional patience to go through the wringer with a bunch of "Maybes"? This is a great solution to speed up the matchmaking process, painlessly. I was referred to Sally Frau from my massage therapist, who is a lovely holistic-y person that I trust with my body and spirit. That being said, I'm a total pragmatist and not really all that woo-woo and fuzzywuzzy when it comes to decisions like mental health professionals. I mentioned to him that I was thinking of finding someone to help me deal with job and relationship stress, and wanted to find a local therapist, but that I had a bad first experience with someone in Chicago I found through an online referral. (I had told the person that I was "shopping for a therapist" and she got really offended and annoyed. It made me feel like I was doing something wrong, but hey -- it's my brain, my money, my life, so I want to make the right decision and I feel the need to understand more before committing to a therapist.) The problem is, I'm super busy and at the rate I was going it would take me three years to find someone. Anyhoo, I was referred to Compatible Solutions as being precisely what I was seeking - a "personal shopper for therapists" as it were. That sounds cheesy but it's really a professional experience. Sally does a thorough confidential intake over two sessions, and being a former therapist herself she has a lot of experience and opinions on things like communication style, tactics/therapies, etc. I found it very educational, since I'm not exactly a lifer in terms of therapy experience. Her manner was very direct, calm, sensitive but to the point. The service is turnkey- she will find you one or more people she thinks is a match for your needs and preferred style/personality, and she'll write up a preliminary prep for the therapists you choose to interview. She also verifies they take your insurance, etc. I don't know how many people she has in her personal database, but it seemed like I had plenty of options to find someone close to my home who also matched my style. She does personal interviews with all the people in her list to understand their approaches and backgrounds. I'd never heard of this kind of service, but I'm a believer. I like the therapist she recommended, a very different person than I would have picked for myself based solely on a scan of her background, but on meeting her and talking about style I think we have a winner. And if it doesn't work out Sally said I can come back for additional options. All in all, money and time well spent.

I was instantly at ease in her presence, and it felt totally safe to open up to her. Alison is a great listener and also leads the session along in a way that feels really helpful and supportive because of the great questions she asks and the perspective she provides. She really seems to be on top of what's going on for me. She remembers things I've told in the past and makes connections for me, and lately I really appreciate that she remembers to ask me specific things about my visits to the doctor. I particularly appreciate that Alison has quite a few clients dealing with infertility, and so because I was feeling so isolated, it helped to learn that much of what I was feeling was totally normal. She could speak to what she had seen and heard from working with her other clients, and I found great comfort in that. Also, as my husband and I have made the choice to pursue Assisted Reproductive Technology (A.R.T.), she already knew so much about it, so I didn't feel I had to spend any time educating or explaining things to her. Through working with Alison, I feel she's now on my team of supporters as I move through the A.R.T. journey. She's someone I look forward to talking to because I know each time that I leave her office I will have gotten what feels like just the right support for what's going on at that particular time. I love that she's been so supportive and knowledgeable about the fertility stuff, but I also love that the sessions allow us to cover more than "just" my fertility concerns, in unexpected but really good ways. So, yes, Alison's been a HUGE help in that I feel so much more empowered and happier regarding where I am with my fertility...and my life. I believe she's a gifted therapist period...and it just turns out that she's also experienced with and passionate about helping those working through fertility issues.
