We were rushed. The consultant, Mark, didn't even sit down while he was "consulting," and we were working off of someone else's desk (and the "someone else" was working there too.) We paid $150 for 1/2 hour consultation and we were there about 20 minutes. There were a few stones he couldn't identify and we felt he was guessing on some of them. I felt like we were bothering him. We will never return. read more

I live in NYC and had been wanting to get a few things appraised but the cost was a bit high. I'm comparing Pacific Gem Lab to NYC prices but comparatively it was pretty affordable! I also brought in an old string of pearls he was able to get restrung and gave great history on my pieces which was pretty neat. read more

Sometimes a girl needs an appraisal. Yes, that's right there's judging involved but this time only for insurance purposes. I called a friend and told her I needed a good appraiser for some jewelry I had. I thought, since I was recently engaged, I should have the ring checked out and I had some earrings that I had been promising myself that I would get appraised. I called and made an appointment. They made it for a couple days out and they said I could drop off my pieces or simply wait for them. I thought since I was already driving downtown, I would just wait. They told me of coffee shops downstairs, etc. However, I was content to catch up on my reading. They had a couple of chairs out of the way for you to wait while the gemologist worked with your items. They told me to allow two hours but I was back on the road after about an hour and a half. They validate your parking. Which is good because there is a smart park right across the street. I thought they covered the entire thing but they only gave me an hour, so I ended up paying for the additional hour. It seems like they could pay for the entire parking duration as you are spending a couple of hundred dollars to have items appraised. Perhaps an oversight. The values came out about where I figured they would, which was good and they cleaned up my gems for me. The gemologist did make some suggestions about my earrings and perhaps getting new backs for the earrings. I will probably consider it in the future but I couldn't be troubled at the time today. It's $90 for your first item and the second item is $70 and I believe it gets considerably less per item as you add items. I'm sure I'll be back if I need anything else appraised. Quick service, while you wait. read more

My fiance and I took our family heirloom engagement ring to be appraised for insurance purposes, and had a truly wonderful experience at PGL. We worked with Brad and Joanne, and they were both very helpful and knowledgable. Brad has a fun sense of humor, and made the whole process not only interesting, but entertaining! read more

I had a very good experience here a few years ago, having my items appraised. When I used PGL again, to see about selling some items and getting GIA reports, there was an initial miscommunication about pricing, but it was quickly and or professionally resolved. I would definitely recommend PGL. read more

I've gone to Pacific Gem Labs twice to get some appraisal done. The first time was for my engagement ring and the second time was for another ring. On both pieces, I worked with Mark. He's knowledgeable and friendly. He also took the time to answer any questions that I had about the jewelry and the appraisal. They estimate the appraisal takes about 90 minutes but I've been able to pick up my jewelry after about an hour. You can also drop off your item and pick it up later in the day. There's a coffee shop on the first floor of the building (Lotus & Bean Espresso Bar), a Starbucks about two blocks away, and plenty of malls around if you're looking to stay and kill time. While there is a small waiting area stocked with magazines in their office, I preferred to get out and let them do their work. Both my items were appraised a tad bit higher than I was expecting but still within range. The difference, in my opinion, didn't warrant a second appraisal elsewhere. They'll also clean your jewelry for you. Their jewelry appraisal prices went up a bit between my 2 visits, which was 3 months apart. When I first went, the appraisal was $100 with a hard copy of the written appraisal. The second time, it was $100 with a PDF of the appraisal and $110 with a hard copy of the appraisal. Their written appraisal is detailed though and is what jewelry insurers typically want. read more

Lets start off by saying I NEVER write reviews so if I'm taking the time to then you were really something great or completely terrible. What a fantastic experience! Had my wedding set appraised and it was a fun interaction. Wonderful staff, we had lots of laughs while waiting. They were very informative and took the time to educate me in the process. I've been working with PGL both personally and professionally for over 10 years. What I love most about this group is their love for their craft. I know they are not just evaluating my pieces, they are getting to know them, learning everything they can so their reports will be as accurate and thorough as possible. And as a jewelry geek I love the wealth of information they have to share. This is by far the most professional, consistent and considerate appraisal company I've dealt with. I trust them with my jewelry and I trust they will give me the fairest and most thorough evaluations on my pieces. read more

Pacific Gem Lab helped me stop gem fraud. I ordered a Mozambique tourmaline and a pink topaz gemstone from the internet. When the stones arrived, PGL quickly determined both were synthetic corundum, almost worthless. I confronted one auction house, they instantly refunded my monies and admitted taken in by the supplier and the other gem store owner promised total refund. Without the help of PGL, I would have been out of hundreds of dollars. THANK YOU PGL for protecting the customer and keeping us from fraud. I have no hesitation taking future gem purchases to them for evaluation. read more

Mark at PGL was recommended to us by Lake Oswego Jewelers and I can see why - he was professional, kind and provided excellent service. He took the time to go through the appraisal and let us ask questions, so we learned quite a bit about the ring. The appraisal took just 90 minutes during lunch. I would highly recommended to others. read more

I called around for an appraisal shop that I could trust, after much research I landed on this wonderful place! Mark was very professional and helpful when I called to ask questions and make an appointment. Brad helped me and performed my appraisal of my new engagement ring. He let me look at my diamond with the microscope and he told me all about my ring and diamond. I left learning so much great information and was excited that I learned so much. I also was very glad to know I could stay there while they did the appraisal and it was very quick. They also validate parking at the Smart Park. Highly recommended! read more

I took my vintage engagement ring to pacific gem lab for appraisal for insurance purposes after making an appointment over the phone. I knew nothing about the ring aside from that it was my great great grandmothers from the 1930s. From the moment I arrived I was treated so warmly and attentively by the staff. They took the time to educate me about my ring, pulling out old books to show me its vintage old mine cut. They seemed as excited about my engagement as I was, which made the process fun for me. I left the lab to shop at pioneer square and the ring was finished with its appraisal in an hour. The appraisal itself was true to what is listed on their website with photographs of the ring. I was emailed a pdf of the appraisal (so convenient for insurance) and purchased a paper copy for myself. After cleaning the ring for me I was even able to look at it under the microscope as more details about its craftsmanship were pointed out to me. I would 100% recommend going with pacific gem lab for your engagement ring appraisal. Thank you for making the process so seamless! read more

What a great experience. With all the worries of the wedding and stress that goes with such a special event, it was nice to not have to sorry about the important details of the rings. Mona and crew were professional and on top of every detail. Showing me several stones, explaining the difference between the grades and colors and why one is differently priced then another, After choosing the stone and setting, the delivery of the final ring was on time and when promised. The appraisal was details so my insurance company knew exactly what we had bought. I look forward to working with PGL for my next purchase,,,, Christmas is coming soon.... read more

PGL is a company you can trust. I highly recommend Mark--he's a seasoned expert, was able to answer my long list of questions about the piece, what the different options are for selling it, what websites to look at for comparison, and shared helpful insider tips. He went above and beyond. Highly professional, thorough, and generally just pleasant to work with. read more
