I experienced two shows there, one in the main big club(The Unguided show)and one in the smaller club(Free & Easy festival) which is right next to it. Both venues have pretty good acoustic and overall sound felt nice! Had a good time there!

This place has multiple bars/clubs/music venues. On a weekend, one can easily go there and hop around the area for different types of music (electronic, reggae, hip hop...you name it, they will most likely have it). If you get the munchies after a long night out, no worries, there is a food stand conveniently situated there to satisfy your cravings. But I am giving 4 stars for its rock music venue (Halle). I like the size of the venue, not too big but wide enough to move around the crowd. The acoustics of the place was decent when I went (it was an indie rock concert). Prices for beers are average-priced, but they sell the local Munich craft beer (Crew Republic), which gets bonus points from me. Whether it's a concert or a dance party, it's worth the trek to go to Backstage. (Ok, it's not too much of a trek as it's still within Munich city perimeters...but I'm lazy to travel more than 20 minutes to go out.)

We came on a Friday evening, and there were many people but not overwhelmingly crowded. The place is adorable with its stuffed animals/flowers decor hung on the ceiling. There was a DJ spinning indie dance tracks, perfect to get me dancing. I saw that one could reserve tables there, and there are 2 Foosball tables, books on a shelf, electronic gambling slot machine -- pretty much one could not be bored there. I look forward to becoming a frequent customer.

I first came to think of Substanz as my favourite indie dance club in Munich. The people are friendly, interesting and willing to get to know new faces, and the music starts early. They do play electronic and some hip hop stuff, but save that for much later in the evening. Sometimes folks are a little bashful to start the dance party off, but I've found that just one or two people getting up when they feel the beat seems to be enough to get things going here. Secondly, Substanz also frequently hosts poetry slams, so the young, artful souls of Munich find haunt and haven here too. Occasionally, they also host benefit parties, meaning that you can shake your groove thing and pay a small cover to go towards a great cause. Admission is €6 to the slams and the benefits are usually around €5 admission. Otherwise, there is no cover to get in here. Thirdly, Substanz is ultimately also a bar with television screens, meaning you can come here to watch the football (soccer) game of the night complemented by the liquid gold brewed by our good friends at Tegernsee and the fairly tasty bar snacks (wings, cheese sticks, etcetera).

How do you spell "FUN" in German? P-R-O-S-E-C-C-O!…read more After a couple of beers with a friend, he asked if I wanted to go someplace fun. Now those of you who know me understand that "fun" is my middle name, so I readily agreed. We made our way from Marienplatz to this place just as it was opening. It was crowded then but my buddy said "Wait until people start leaving the Wiesn, then it will be packed". And he was right, it got super crowded but the more crowded it got, the more fun it was. I met a ton of nice people...very friendly, all having a good time. Even better were the bartenders. They were all so nice and they didn't care that I was American (I guess 'cause I kept making those Euros rain, baby!) but service was excellent and I even got a buy back! I didn't know they did that in Germany. The music was fun too. I heard about 4,000 songs by some woman who is a big pop star in Germany and I liked them. I'll have to ask my friend what her name is again. The beer was good, the shots were fun and it was sad when it was time to leave. The only negative is their use of the fog machine. Much like a goomba who doesn't know when to stop dousing himself with Axe body spray, this place thinks too much fake smoke is never enough. But other than that, this place rocks.
