This is a MUST when you visit Galena. 10 of us saw the show on 7/25. I went for the kids as I am not a huge magic fan. I was extremely happy that I went! The whole family laughed the entire time! We went for my Mother in laws's 89 birthday and we couldn't have made a better choice! Patrick is a comedian who does really good magic, or a good magician who is really funny. Humanly funny, not canned glitzy jokes. The intimate setting makes it even better as the audience grows together under the guided hand of our magical leader. He makes jokes with us and about what's happening feeding off the audience participation; so don't just sit back daring the magician to amaze you-though amaze you he will. Have fun and be a part of the magic! It may seem expensive, but if you can afford it, it's well worth it. And while a kid could probably enjoy the tricks, it's really not a show for kids. My wife and I found ourselves here on a weeknight to celebrate our anniversary as we were married in Galena nearly 20 years ago. We hadn't been in the area much over the last decade and were surprised to find that there was a quaint magic show right off of main street. On a Wednesday night?? and there were 4 tickets left! We snatched up 2 tickets and went over to the show a little nervous that we'd be sawed in half. PT was hilarious from the moment we walked in. Such a nice guy, so funny. The magic was effortlessly interwoven into this great conversation that he was having with his audience (the place seats about 25). An intimate setting to see a skilled magician up close and be part of a really cool experience with 20 of PT's newest friends. Our middle son is a huge fan of magic, and studies up on it quite a bit, so to impress him is a big deal. P.T. Murphy interacts with the audience, making you feel as if you are part of the act, drawing you in until you forget that you are at a show with total strangers and not at a private party with friends. I love the intimate setting and his conversational style. It's a warm setting and much more personal than most other shows - not the Las Vegas style oversized venue waiting to watch an elephant disappear type show. There is a method to his madness, a building of expectation, and humor, too! You have to actually pay attention to what is going on to appreciate the outcome. This is magic Chicago style! We have seen his show a few times in Chicago as well and have always been impressed and surprised - never the same show twice and always stunned at his slight of hand and up close and personal style of magic. Not sure why this is coming up closed, we were just there tonight! We absolutely loved the show; everyone from my 8 year old daughter to my 93 year old grandma! We were a little hesitant at first; it's a tiny venue, we went to the 9 pm show on Halloween weekend. Even though the parade was over, parking was a little challenging. Because of this, the show started a little late; I don't see this being a problem during most of the year. Once it got started, we were pleasantly surprised. It was interactive, and we laughed. This was a really fun show! The venue is small -- I believe it seated 24. You are seated in the order that you arrive. We showed up about 25 minutes before the show and were the 3rd couple to arrive so we ended up in the front row center. The show was engaging and P.T.'s personality is fantastic. P.T. even took the time to get to know everybody's name and his wonderful humor is weaved throughout the show. I would highly recommend an evening with P.T. Murphy if you are in the Galena area.
