Every time my fiancé and I visit the Scranton area we make a stop at P&R on the way home. Last weekend was no exception. I wish we had one closer to Philly because there are a lot of great deals to be found. P&R is kind of like the Marshall's/TJ Maxx of grocery stores. You can find some cool things if you're willing to dig through piles of stuff that's not worth it. Of course, that's half the fun to me. Looking for the deals and discovering secret treasures provides the thrill of the hunt! Shopping here gives you a low-risk way of trying things you might not otherwise buy. Fancy looking bag of nuts with an exotic-sounding flavor that you might not buy at $7 retail? It's on sale for a dollar here - why not try it! You can find tons of SUPER cheap brand name goods here, with some single-serve snacks starting at just 10 cents. The selection is always changing, so every time you go, there are new treats waiting to be discovered. One thing you do have to be prepared for / watch out for are items past their expiration or Best By dates. The reason some of the items (not all of them) are so low is because they are quickly approaching or have past those dates. For most non-perishable snack foods, I'm totally fine if they are a month or so past the Best By date, and I also find plenty of things that are not even close yet. If you're traveling a couple hours home like me, make sure to pack a cooler because they also have refrigerated and frozen food sections. P&R is definitely a neat place to check out if you like to bargain-hunt! read more

I understand that some businesses suggest mask-wearing, but I am not able to wear a mask due to serious medical reasons. They let me walk around the store with no mask, but would not ring me up. Wasted my time. That's ok, they can run their business as they like, but I obviously will not be shopping there anymore. read more

Awful place, dirty floors and food that expired weeks ago on the shelves. Freezers are always luke warm, never cold. Saving a few cents on an item is not worth poor taste, potential sickness, or horrible quality on the item. Most of their products are returned, close to expiration, or otherwise rejected items from bigger stores. Was also overcharged at checkout (a clerk hand types in each price, extremely prone to errors) and can not even get a hold of anyone at the store, voicemail is full. Love this place! Knowing that expiration dates are meant only for the stores expiration to sell the product has gained me some wonderful items that are still fresh and good for my family. They have a wonderful well stock section of organic products that are just too expensive at the regular store! I am so thankful for this establishment! My friend went shopping there once with me and now comes periodically from 2 hours away just to shop here! read more

Pretty disappointing. Heard great things and finally went there. Not alot to chose from and it was hit or miss. Items were either dirt cheap or priced above many regular stores. Also very crowded and checkouts are unorganized. Got very hard to navigate up towards the checkout lanes. The one in Dunmore is smaller but much nicer in every way. read more

Allow me to post my review on here since they delete all negative reviews on their facebook page. :) The place is great for deals.. it's almost like a scavenger hunt.. so it's a lot of fun. i shop here regularly & have for the past couple years. With that being said - I've noticed a decline in their pet food selection, specifically cat food. They used to have a great variety of more expensive and better quality foods which were hit & miss. Sometimes go in and spent $100+. other times walk out without a thing. I understand how the whole process works & all so.. buy more pet food pallets. my biggest complaint is that they put stuff on the shelves in other departments that don't sell as well and those items sit there for months and months. they don't have any type of system to mark down stuff that isn't selling to make room for new stuff. considering the fact that the owners are making a killing and pay their employees next to nothing I'm sure it won't kill them to have a markdown section. especially considering there's a bunch of "designer" merchandise which even with their prices is still a joke. read more

Coconut water for .50 cents, Ben and Jerry's for a dollar, favorite grocery store I have ever been to.

I really enjoy P&R because of the deals and prices. However, It definitely has been declining since they got the deli & more coolers. I think some of the prices have increased and there's definitely more traffic. It's a great place to shop but needs a bigger store, more cashiers, and the prices as they were. read more

A lot of the food here is way past it's expiration date. Not just a few days, but months. My Dad saved 25 cents on some cans of ravioli, but when he opened them they were all dark brown and gross inside. I checked and they were expired for 8 months. BEWARE! read more

I just walked out of the job, management likes to gossip. They had me put out items 2 days to expiration. I am military and management was tracking that. The General manager who loves to bring personal problems to work would use little digs about my military term to try and get her point across. To preface this update, I still very much enjoy hunting for stuff here at P&R. They've expanded the store since my original review and it appears to be mainly baby stuff and housewares (I just stick to the food). The reason I'm taking a star off is that the pricing seems to be out of touch or out of control. I can't quite figure out what's going on, but here is an example: several months ago I purchased a roll of parchment paper for $2.69. That's a savings of about 60% off retail which is exactly in line with what they like to claim for their savings advantage. On my most recent visit, the identical product was priced at $6.99 which is more than anywhere else. You'll also find identical products marked with different prices (i.e. a generic brand Rogaine with half of the boxes at $3.99 and half at $1.99) and an overall selection that seems to be thinning out (larger quantities of the same items rather than the incredible variety I once enjoyed). So, while there are still bargains to be had, one should remain price-conscious and keep in mind that this is a discount store - anything priced near or above retail should remain on the shelf. Hopefully that will be enough to teach them what they're doing wrong as the business evolves. read more

Great place if you're willing to spend the time reading expiration dates and digging for hidden gems. Being gluten-free can be extremely expensive, so this place is amazing for stocking up! Locally I have a very small choice of safe items in my stores. They have a tremendous amount of gluten-free items, most things under a dollar. Frozen bread that I am forced to pay $7.49 for locally, they have for .79! Cookies, crackers, specialty flours and spices are many dollars cheaper here. Things other than food seem way overpriced, and I'm not sure I would buy easily perishable things like meat, but it's definitely worth checking out if you are looking for gluten-free, organic, and non-GMO. read more

Some good prices, some regular grocery store prices. Half the place is becoming more of a baby depo. Good place to shop for diapers. They have food out so you can try it but none of it ever trastes very good to me. I get our cereal here and sometimes some snacks. They have a pet section also. Why, at 9:30 a.m. on a Wednesday morning is there a line 10 deep to check out with only one checker with bagger? We literally stood in line with several people ahead of us with a full cart waiting to check out with our five items. The deals are sometimes fantastic. There seems to be a little more effort directed at stocking product at regular retail pricing. The only issue i have experienced is the purchase of breaded chicken cutlets which were moldy when opened. I will be hesitant in purchasing any type of precooked refrigerated food. Vacuum packed and canned items are of no concern. read more

Fantastic deals on a large variety of items (grocery, clothes, baby, etc.) inventory changes often, can't always find the same exact products, but I've never been unable to get everything i need there. Staff is SO helpful. Highly recommended!!! read more

I've found recalled dog food in this store. I know that they are a discount store, but that doesn't mean they should sell products that could potential endanger their customers (or their pets).I don't believe it's even legal for the to sell recalled products, even though they aren't a regular store. Maybe they weren't aware of the recall, but you have to be very careful when buying pet food here. There are a lot of cheap items here, but there are also many that are overpriced for this type of store. I like how they have different things you can't find anywhere else. read more

beware!!!!!!!! test all products before leaving store! bought a baby swing in a box that was opened because guy said he would give me a great deal spent $100 on baby items get home swing loooks beautiful but wont swing correctly it gets stuck. i bring back for store credit like i was told i would be able to do and was thrown around back and fort from cashiers to stockers and not allowedd to see manager hiding it back. told she would call me ! basically called me a liar said the seriel numbers dont match on pieces in box!!!!! $60 i saved 200 dollars that month to buy a swing for new baby due any day now and these people ripped me off basically sent me away with a broken product! obviously a return item from gracco that had issues with this product back in 2011 ! yes i did my research and will be filiing complaints and doing ehtver i have to do to get my money back! i thought i was walking awya with a good deal more like getting robbed and hit over the head! read more

I have been shopping at P&R since they had just the 1 store in Mayfield. I cannot imagine how much I have saved over the years. The Eynon store is an amazing cornucopia of name brands we all know, small brands, & store or off brands. I don't mind a bit of a dent or discoloration in the labels if I'm going to save--doesn't hurt the inside. And, if you're looking for the unusual--Oh My! I don't think I've seen canned okra, ready made polenta, or a large selection of Mexican foods in any of my local supermarkets. And then there's the snacks--tons of whole grain chips, kale chips, hummus chips, etc. Some are close to expiration, but seriously, how long do chips sit in the cupboard? And yes, they've a small deli section--well priced & tasty meats & cheeses (and, be on the lookout for the special deals on meats they have an overabundance of--.99 a pound!) I really love this store--and so do my taste buds & wallet. read more

I love this store. I can find all sorts of Gluten free and organic items at great prices. They simply can't be beat. I highly recommend heading here before your "regular" grocery store! The values are amazing and the varied selection has been inspirational to me! read more

I shopped here and purchased one of my favorite brands of frozen french fries. They seemed to be a good price so I bought 7 bags of them and stored them in my large freezer. I like to stock up on items when I get a good price. When I went to use them I discovered large amounts of black, smelly mold in the bags (they had a 2019 expiration date so they should have been good for 1 year and 6 months from the date that I purchased them). I returned them to the store with the receipt and they would not refund my money. They said that I had them too long. After purchasing these I immediately froze them. Frozen items do not develop mold. The store manager did not believe me. This place has a no return policy but I expected an exception in this case. No such luck. Beware of shopping here, yuck! You are taking a big chance by purchasing any sealed items that you can not tell if they are good or not when looking at them in the store. Also, this store does not have a phone number..........odd for a business. read more
