We felt safe seeing grandma behind the counter, it came across as a family run business. I am olive skinned & brown eyed, so I fit in OK .. took a few items to the counter & the daughter spoke to me in Spanish .. when she realized my blue eyed husband was behind me speaking to me in English .. EVERYTHING changed. all of a sudden their credit card reader was no longer working (even-though we just saw one person before us use it, it still had blinking lights) they figured out we did not have any pesos since we asked them if they had an ATM .. then we were told they take American $$$ - however, they made up their own exchange rate. The absolute worts thing they did was sold us SIM cards (chip) for our 2 phones ... we had been told in US to make sure we activate the chip/SIM card & add data to it, activate it in store to make sure it is working & valid. We did, the young lady that sold us 7 days of unlimited 5G data actually charged us $20 for 2 chips then only activated it for the minimum 2 hr data use which was $0.20 cents worth and pocketed the difference. The sad part was that we went downtown for our 1st dinner, everything worked OK until we need to order an UBER or taxi .. nothing was working & we got stranded in a new country & environment. Mexicans are wonderful loving caring folks .. however, there are a few that are frigging evil & money hungry scum. This was NOT limited to just this OXXO store .. we were buying several items totaling approx. $30US from another OXXO store only to be told credit card reader was not working but they take American $$$ .. as we left everything on the counter & began to walk out credit card reader magically started to work again.

Oxxo is Mexico's version of 7-11. They seem to be on almost every street corner in town. I usually…read morepop into one several times a day for a soda, water, or small snack. The prices are on par with a convenience store, and they have those quick grab and go items you're looking for. Oxxo's aren't fancy, but they have what you need. This review will be brief because I only have three tips for you: 1. ALWAYS use cash (pesos) to pay. NEVER use your credit or debit card unless it is absolutely necessary. I have heard horror stories of skimming going on, especially at Oxxo. 2. ONLY use small bills (pesos) to pay. Oxxo cashiers are notorious for not accepting large bills. They will flat-out tell you "no." The smaller the better. 3. If you're buying a beverage, always opt for the cans and bottles that are in a big bucket with ice rather than the refrigerated coolers, if offered. The drinks will be far colder in the ice bucket than the fridges.

Vallarta Mart has just about everything you need during your stay in PV. Conveniently located on…read morethe Malecon, you'll find cheap souvenirs, snacks, sunscreen, bottled water, toiletries, pharmaceuticals (no prescription necessary), and booze. We were able to sample some tequila before we purchased a full bottle and I also got a half-decent bottle of vino blanco for a reasonable price. Mr. P. ended up loving the tequila and, sadly, it's not available in the U.S. Next time we're in Vallarta, we'll definitely go back and do some shopping to stock up on our beach trip necessities. Credit cards and pesos accepted.

I recently visited the store and saw some mugs with a sign that read in Spanish, "buy two, take three (the third one the lowest price)", but when I tried to pay for them they said, "oh, not those, just the other ones", but the sign was in the middle and on top of the whole shelf. I asked if they could honor the price, but they did not (I found them 3x2 at another store anyway). Also, I paid for a pack of coasters at 4 dollars, but then realized they were at 2 packs for 6 dollars. I tried to buy the second one expecting to pay just 2 more dollars, but they did not honor that. I then tried to return the first one and repurchase 2 at 6 dollars, but they said I could not return the first one, even if I was going to buy it again. The manager even told me "If that is the way you want to interpret it, it's up to you". This was very rude coming from the manager. The whole experience made me feel I would never return to this store, and neither any of my family and friends.

I've went to the store two different times it's eight minutes from where I'm staying. And they have everything a girl can need. The vegetables are very fresh tons of meats and vegetables and a really great selection of any thing you need an a basic Mexican grocery store. Shoot in any grocery store. You may not find the American things that you used to in America but if you're used to it down here and have your Google Translate in case you need it to take pictures to translate things. You'll find everything you need is here. It just may be the Mexican version. And let's be honest if you don't know by now anything you buy in Mexico is going to be a healthier version than what they sell you in America. They do not use the high fructose corn syrup in the cokes and that's why they taste so good and it's the same for every other item on the shelves. The vegetables even taste better. If you don't know now you know. The staff is very helpful at one point I couldn't find the white vinegar for cleaning my vegetables and asked a woman in my broken Spanglish and she walked me all the way over to help me find it. They also have some lovely Tres leches cake in the back left section of the store sold by the piece for like $1.50. If you haven't had it before I highly suggest you go try it. Thanks for reading my review & hope you have a fantastic day!
