You're in Sicily, you've lived here for a long while now and you are craving some Japanese. If you can take driving into the middle of Catania at night, when most people in the area are there and traffic is horrendous, then head over to Oxidiana.
My boss, my coworker, and I were all trying to do dinner together every other month or so. We saw each other every day at work, but we'd always try to plan something outside work to do together. Food, of some sort, is usually what we'd end up doing.
Both of them had been to Oxidiana before, but I had not. I'm also a terrible person to take to a restaurant whose main fare is sushi because I'm one of those very few people that does not care for it. Luckily, the restaurant offers more than just sushi, but I will say that I've seen a lot of sushi in my lifetime, and this looked like some of the best that I've seen outside of the East Pacific. As for the non-sushi menu, Oxidiana offers tempura, sukiyaki, okonomiyaki, and a few other dishes. I settled for some beef negimaki and tempura vegetables. The scallions were fresh and still had a bit of a crunch, which I like and the beef was juicy and rich. I loved that I had enough of the juice left from the beef to add to my rice.
The only drawback on Oxidiana is the price, especially when you consider the fact that you are paying in euros and you calculate it out. The place is not lacking in business, though, it was crowded when we were there and another set of customers was sat at our table as we were walking towards the door. read more
