I feel like somebody bottled up the City of Gotham and placed it inside the Taj Mahal. The Good: I came to Oxford Treatment Center to get sober, and in that regard, it worked. The facility itself is Taj Mahal beautiful. Some staff members were genuinely helpful--especially the nurses (most of them kind, hardworking women) and one amazing receptionist (a heavier-set lady of color) who went above and beyond to assist me. If you stick out the full 30 days, you'll likely leave with a solid foundation for recovery. The Bad: Unfortunately, my experience was marred by neglect, unsanitary conditions, and a lack of basic care. 1. No Individualized Treatment Despite advertising dual diagnosis care, I never saw a psychologist or psychiatrist. Mental health was an afterthought, and everyone received the same generic treatment plan and medications. 2. Rigid & Unaccommodating Policies I only planned to stay 1-2 weeks (unaware it was a strict 30-day program). When I gave days of notice before leaving, they: Refused to help with aftercare. Tried to block me from arranging outside care. And made my exit chaotic (a code was called). Later, when I returned for my leftover medications, they had discarded them--claiming I "refused" them, even though I explicitly said I'd return for them. 3. Disgusting, Unsanitary Living Conditions This was my biggest issue. The facility was filthy, and staff COULDN'T do anything about it: I was even told that they couldn't clean everything because staffing. Women's cabins were NEVER cleaned, while men's cabins were. We were given no cleaning supplies--just water to wipe things down and mop. How do you mop with no disinfectant? I begged for Lysol wipes to disinfect (after seeing a woman wipe a toilet with her bare hands) but was denied. Towels ran out--some patients ordered their own from Amazon, but the facility confiscated them. A roommate bled on her towel and was told to keep using it because there were no replacements. Mandatory cleanup days forced us to pick up cigarette butts and trash off the ground--while staff provided no sanitizer. Final Thoughts: Oxford might help you get sober. But if you expect basic hygiene, mental health care, or flexibility, look elsewhere. The kind nurses and receptionist were the only saving grace--the rest of the facility felt understaffed, uncaring, and at times, downright nasty. read more

-Barry (boss man in Recovery himself who will stop and listen to you no matter what he has going on) -Jewel (the best counselor the place has, hands down! Will advocate for you and honorable) -Hannah is the music teacher and has a beautiful soul. Will allow you to throw out words of how you feel, then actually create a song about it all! She does orientation, as well. She has a way of speaking and you know when she's talking that everything she says is either by life experience or something she's well educated to speak of -Jason (the best nurse by far) helps you instead of tells you "you're 2 minutes late for med pass, you'll have to wait until tonight" when there's lunch going on, some meetings get out late, and some days you just can't make it in time especially if you're with your therapist over the charted time (Ex.) I heard a Nurse tell a man who was sweating from head to toe, pale, and could hardly stand. After him, I walked up to the window and she gave me my medication with a smile and told me how nice I always am. (In my mind, I'm thinking.. That guy needed it way worse than me!) I walk over to him and he's suffering, bad. So I take him and walk to the nurses station and tell them that he almost fell going down the steps and he looks like he's barely breathing! They told me "thank you, Chris.. We'll Take care of him!" So, they take him in the station! I was also a "peer leader and cabin captain" in which I introduced myself during orientation and helped the new residents transition from Detox. I'd find where they were supposed to go, and show them where their new living areas were. We were told by Barry, the "Head Man in Charge" to make sure we're like the big Bros and sisters on campus and to show them around after Orientation. However, it's difficult to do when the entire time a guy named Ralph riding a golf cart everywhere stops and asks you every time he passes you "where are you supposed to be..?" I believe the guy had dementia or just was really bored because I told him exactly what I was told to do by Barry and the Orientation leader, Hannah. It was obvious there was zero communication between that department. Barry would also hold bi-weekly meetings with us leaders and bring doughnuts and Keurig coffee to find out what we could do to improve the place! If anything needed to be replaced in the living areas, or if there were any vibes on campus that might need addressing. About 8 of us would hold a little over an hour long committee and let him in on what he couldn't see, but we could. He was very diligent on taking notes and was obvious in wanting to help and improve everything as much as possible. The huge issue is COMMUNICATION! They teach all of us that "communication" is one of the TOP things we have to do in order to survive this disease of addiction. Yet, while sitting in the Nurse Practitioner's office and/or nurses station, all you hear is one nurse gossiping about the other. Medications were almost given to me that had another patient's name of Chris L's name on it. It would have put me in full blown sickness if I hadn't caught it. But back to the communication aspect, there is zero it seems. Business office that does aftercare and speaks to the doctors for follow up appointments don't speak to your counselor, which seems like they should. Nurses and doctors are never on the same page. TA's will tell you anything to get you away from them so that they can do nothing. The food was the next to worst thing about the place, next to them almost overdosing me. They threw a huge meal with fresh fruit and baked goods, 4 different dishes, even had fresh squeezed lemonade the day that the CEO and others came to visit. Even put out tablecloths. Then that evening it was back to their normal routine. My fellow friends found hair in their food on more than several occasions. It's kind of ironic that even my counselor said "it looks like you've lost a bit of weight." OH, before I forget. My discharge planner tells me I'm leaving on a date I had setup 2 flights for, and a hotel for that night. Total was $475. The very NEXT day, I'm called into the business office and they "regret to tell me that my insurance stopped paying over a week ago" in which I had seen my counselor earlier that day and I know I had Coverage for that week because I had not only called them myself (which my wonderful counselor advised me to do) but she told me I was ok through the 1st but we would have to send another review. I went ahead and booked a flight the next day to the tune of $375. Took it to them and told them I was prepared to leave. They come to me later that day and ask me if I would like to stay longer. I couldn't help but laugh to keep from losing it. I'm not completely trying to bash this place, because like I said, there's a lot of people that care there. But I've never seen a place with so much potential ran this way. The best thing was the comradery and the friends I made along the journey! read more

They would rather stick someone on suboxone so then they will be addicted to that instead of keeping people clean off everything. Let's pay all that money for a barn while getting paid to make another addiction to a pill or film. If your family member has any medical issues they will not call you. I went in as a dual treatment patient. The nurses were not licensed or qualified in the detox program and while detoxing me off Xanax that I had been on for 20 years their way of detoxing was Ativan 4 mg 4 times a day. That was more than the Xanax my dr. prescribed then after detox I went into the general population and my body was not nearly detoxed and said I'd be fine. After going to the nurses with heart palpitations and feelings of delusion and seizures they assured I'd be fine. I struggled for 7 days because they would not help other than giving me more medication that dropped my blood pressure and I felt like death. I demanded to talk to the doctor to help me and he smiled and did a slight giggle as to what I was going through. I cried literally thinking I was going to die. He added to my medication list 15mg of seroquel 4 times a day. That's enough to put someone out for 2 days but they still expected me to be on a functioning level. I woke up one night, could hardly breathe and felt my blood pressure drop to the point I almost passed out. The nurses said I was fine and left. Later that evening I called 911 and the paramedics said my heart was going into PVC's which is VERY dangerous and to immediately start back on my Xanax. They provided me the Xanax for me to leave safely and they couldn't believe the care I got from this facility and said they've had to pick many people up from there because of emergency situations. I wouldn't send my sick dog there. Please do not choose this place. It's dangerous and I only saw a psychiatrist once. They treat you like you have no reason to be there so they don't attend to your needs nor have any idea how to detox anyone as safely as they promised me before going. These people almost sent me to an early grave and it would have devastated my children. They also threw in my face that I was a hypochondriac which was very rude because what was going on with my mind and body was REAL!!! Please avoid this place. Safe Habour is a much professional treatment program if looking for one or I'd also recommend lakeside. This place is full of quack nurses and doctors. One nurse stayed so high she could barely keep her eyes open. Terrible place. I will be suing to the fullest extent for my grievance. read more

While my stuff was in their control and not mine i had a new pair of shoes and nike slides and 5 new nike dri fit shirts stolen . I was told they would file a claim and cut me a check . I still hscebt seen or heard back from them . So if u like hundreds of hundreds of dollars of your personal things stole and lied to about them paying u back then this is your place. read more

This experience was overall a great experience. I'm thankful I came here. There have been hiccups such as poor schedule of on the administration side. Contradictory. The therapists are amazing. My favorite lessons were LGBTQ (not offered anymore) and trauma for women( taken off of the schedule). Overall my experience was helpful for my sobriety. Thanks Oxford. read more

My aweful experience happened just about a couple days ago. everything was going fine, I was beyond excited get the Help I needed. Finally! check in was wonderful, easy and they had food waiting for me. (hospital food) but yummy non the least. the nightmare starts when on my second day, I am told "that I dont qualify for FMLA because im "Detox" only. (which mind you, after speaking to about 6 different people , I told them 7 DAYS ONLY. I get told my the FMLA madam that I dont qualify. So i start freaking out. mind you, i never lied to these people. i said 7 days only, now they say 30 days. No one knows what answer to tell me, im confused. long story short, the Cordinator lady I believe her name is Nicole. bless her heart because shes as lost than me. i regret coming to this place. if a patient tells you 3.5.7 days. dont be sneaky and pull that stunt. oh and be ready to be out $200 ride back to airport. no ubers in area. worst decision of my life. im traumatized. read more

The grounds are beautiful. But they nearly overdosed me on medication and I had to be transported by ambulance to Baptist er with a diagnoses of poly pharma. Also the case managers are lazy and don't take care where they send you as soon as your insurance stops paying. I was sent to avenues rehab in NO and it was a trash dump. This was my first time in a treatment facility and I couldn't have made a better choice!! It first started at the airport, where I was met by the shuttle driver. I was a little nervous, being that I was so far away from home, but he made me feel secure and safe immediately. He was super friendly and asked me if I needed anything multiple times. The ride to the facility went by quick due to the great conversations we had during the drive. Once I arrived at the center, I was greeted by the equally as friendly intake personal. They made me feel so welcome and were truly happy that I was there. Once I entered the main facility population once I was Covid-19 clear, I quickly realized that everyone that worked here was so friendly!!! I engaged with the maid staff, kitchen staff, grounds personal, and therapists daily and really enjoyed the interaction and conversations I had. It wasn't just rehab talk either, I was able just to talk normally with them and that made me feel really good, like talking to a friend. They never made me feel bad or ashamed or looked down on me for being there, but as a "normal" person. My process group was amazing. I was able to open up about the events in my life and that really helped me gain a new understanding on things. My main therapist really guided me and helped me gain a better grasp on the roots of my addiction and the tools that would help me stay sober. The classes were very informative, each one having a different style and technique to them. After a day or two you get to know which classes you connect to more, which will keep you engaged in the discussions and topics!! I found a new found sense of peace and accomplishment with all the equestrian classes, something I didn't realize I enjoyed! With everyone so friendly and encouraging and engaging, I couldn't have asked for being lucky enough to have gone to OTC. I am forever grateful for the experience I had..!! read more

On 2/26/23 at about 1100 hours I checked into the Oxford center for a 5 day detox. I was told I was being given Risperdal, Topamax and Ativan. As someone who works in the field of detox this seemed unusual but I tried to trust your process. The paper work sent to the hospital indicated I had been given Risperdal, Benadryl and another drug I did not recognize 3 times. I was also given a cup of 5 all white pills and one white capsule and was told these were my regular medications. Risperdal is for Bipolar, schizophrenic and autistic patients come to find out. I have been to 2 other reputable treatment centers and worked in 2 more and the general standard for alcohol detox is Depakote and Valium. The Risperdal threw me into a full blown psychosis and I was transported to Baptist Oxford ER around 0200 hours 2/27/23 allegedly for "Alcoholic Delirium". I have never been close to "delirium" in any of my treatment episodes. I thought detox would be a good idea because I now have a liver mass and must undergo treatment for that and while I have continued to drink it was way below the past levels that took me to treatment. I have taken care of many patients in actual alcoholic delirium and it is a days long process. I was discharged home from the ICU 2/28/23 at 1700 hours. That practically never happens but once the Risperdal was washed out of my system and I was able to tell the doctors what actually happened they agreed that was the most likely scenario given my quick recovery and discharged me home. They also noted to me that risperdal is contraindicated with the Lexapro I am on. I also found the organization of your detox center unlike any I have ever seen. There was no centralized medication station, just a tech wandering the halls with cups of medication . They couldn't identify the pills so at least 2 of the "3Rs" of medication safety were violated. I was told the food would come to us also. It came to the center in styrofoam containers thrown on a cart by the dayroom. Nobody notified me when dinner came so I missed that meal entirely. There was no kitchen for patients to obtain snacks or cold drinks or warm food. No nurse approached me with concerns about my condition. I was awakened by EMT's wrestling me onto a stretcher. One of them either punched me in the chest or did a sternal rub on me so hard that I still have a bruise. I don't know if they medicated with an injection or I blacked out but I didn't wake up until I was in the ICU. Interestingly enough there were no benzos in my drug screen at the ER and their should have been 14 hours and 3 doses later. I am currently waking up with night terrors from constantly reliving this episode in my dreams. I have interviewed a couple of lawyers but would really prefer to forget this happened rather than have to relive it again and again the next few years in court. I would like my $500 deposit returned and restitution of any costs of hospitalization not covered by insurance. Let's keep it simple. read more

I went to this facility at the beginning of the Covid crisis and their procedure in testing and getting you into detox is efficient. Detox is not a pleasant thing, and it never will be. I was there from 4/15/20-5/16/20. Today marks 118 days of continuous sobriety. The staff cares. The time spent here is what you make of it. The Therapy: wow, the approach at this treatment center is top notch. as i mentioned; treatment is what you make of it. they offer lots of different things to help keep patients engaged. There was art therapy (i learned to paint with acrylic paint), yoga (its a lot harder than one would think!) equine therapy (which included horseback riding and demonstrations), music therapy (choosing and discussing songs in relation to recovery), ropes course (one of my favorites -- working as a team to accomplish some type of physical goal outdoors), and a multitude of classroom setting classes involving understanding the brain and why we do the things we do and how to prevent relapse in the future. The cool thing about all the therapies (art, equite, music and ropes) was that while these activities were being done the engagement was all recovery related. OTC's approach to treatment is not to scare and shame you into sobriety but rather to embrace who you are as a person and help you get the tools you need to combat cravings in the future. Shoutout to Deja G. and Breanna C. Two of the best therapists at that place in my opinion. Campus: The campus is beautiful and spread out. The therapy classes are spaced out and assigned per your group color. It is your responsibility to get to and from these classes and walking is part of the therapy. Of course if it was pouring or you have a disability you can hitch a ride on the transport. There was a beautiful lake, it was super quiet, they had HORSES! The horses were so amazing and gentle. They have a gym and a decent sized cafeteria. Accommodations: this center is really nice in comparison to alot of other facilities. for the most part it is clean -- the rooms are very roomy and the beds are comfortable. you will only ever have 1 roommate and that 1 roommate will share a private bathroom with you. If you are cold natured I would recommend bringing another blanket as it can get cold. I brought another pillow too because i'm a two pillow kind of girl. The facility buildings were well lit and easy to navigate. The people: it is a melting pot of young and old, rich and poor, crazy and level headed people with a common problem -- addiction. OTC does its best to manage the patients in their care but lets be realistic people -- if you didn't come to OTC to get better for yourself; you are probably going to find you didn't like this place much. They give you alot of self-autonomy there. The freedom to walk to and from classes. They try to keep people on track if they are missing classes but you will hear about the occasional person who refuses and hides in their cabin and/or bathroom to refuse it. Those people aren't ready for the help OTC has to offer. There also will be those who will engage in what I call "rehab romances" ... in my opinion; these people also aren't ready to take the program seriously. The last thing on my mind was trying to form a romantic relationship in treatment. The staff tries to manage this but there is only so much they can do. There just simply isn't enough staff and not to mention these patients are ADULTS! The staff isn't there to babysit; they are there to facilitate a treatment center for people who are trying to get well. Medical Assistance: They gave me the necessary drugs to help ease the withdrawal symptoms and then tapered me off accordingly. But here's the thing. You have to be your own advocate. If you need something, you need to tell them you need it and have a darn good reason why. The other draw back is the wait in the medline. If you aren't the first person there be willing to be standing in like for 30-45 minutes. There are too many patients and only one nurse administering daytime and evening meds. read more

I came into this program with the denial most have. This treatment center allowed me to reprogram my life to allow me to live again. The staff here are so kind and helpful. Though, the food can be disappointing at times, there are also times it's quite exceptional. Mr. Hank and Mr. Marty are some of the most motivational people I've ever met and without them, I wouldn't be where I'm at today. read more

I was taking care of some last minute issues before leaving but the person I spoke with Cory started burning up my phone and calling family members that didn't know what was even going on and thanks to him he started issues with my daughter. I wouldn't recommend ever going here and I sure as hell wouldn't give him an emergency contact because apparently he thinks it's for his own personal use. I have been to several treatment centers. Oxford has been an amazing experience. I would highly recommend it. This place does not watch their patients when they are not in class. They allow patients to hook up with each other after hours when it clearly states they are not allowed to be alone with each other. You think you are sending a loved one to a safe place to heal and get sober but they do not watch their patients closely enough. They allow them to exchange numbers and "meet up" when they should be using this time to get sober and healthy. A lot of lives ruined because they did not care to do their jobs after hours. read more

Here is my own personal experience from this Rehab center. When I told the counselor I'd felt like I did not belong here and i was taking up a bed. mind you the reason why I came here was for marijuana. The counselor said my only option to go home was to drop me off at the front of the facility and I would have to walk home. I thought this was a bluff because this place is in the middle of nowhere . However they were not bluffing at all. I gathered all my things and they pick me up in a golf carr and drop me off at the front of the facility. No cell phone service around this place at all. It's literally in the middle of nowhere. I had to walk 40 miles before I can get to the closest town. Buy a charger. I had to pay $100 for Uber ride to go to Memphis because that's the closest airport there. And I ended up sleeping in the airport for 3 days. This place doesn't care about your health or well-being. I would highly recommend going to a different facility. I hope my review really helps someone contemplating on going here. I'm going to continue writing reviews on as many formus as I can. I've never felt so abandoned and violated. They didn't even have me sign the discharge papers. They literally just left me in the dirt in the middle of nowhere. read more
