I've been in a…read morecouple of times for a look and I absolutely love how it's laid out - essentially, it's split into four areas and laid out like a house. There's a bed, bathroom, living and men's/women's clothing areas. It's very cleverly done and is really appealing, especially compared to your standard charity shop. Prices are reasonable, there's a huge range of women's & men clothes and accessories (a whole drawer of ties!) as well as crockery/glassware, cards for Christmas (if you want to get in really early) and the usual bits you'd expect in a charity shop. It's worth paying this shop a visit just to see how nicely it's laid out, even if you're not planning on buying anything!

This Shelter in Clarkston really seems to scrap the barrel in terms of what they're selling - I'd class it more like brik-a-brak than anything with any real value, but a lot of the stuff is priced accordingly. They have a wall of crockery/tableware which was mostly around £1, as well as books, CDs, DVDs etc for pretty low prices too. They also have clothes and kids toys. Would I go back? In Clarkston, there's tonnes of charity shops and this one felt a little too junky for me, so no. Two stars.

This like many other charity shops, is full to the brim of clothing, books, childrens toys, CDs and other bric-a-brac. They also have a sign on the window saying "Donate, don't waste." This is one of the main reasons that I really admire this place; seen as Scotland's population is indeed prone to these sorts of medical problems. In fact, a close friend recently had a family loss due to a sudden and massive heart attack in her sleep and at only 43 years old. Anyway, back to this particular charity shop. It's a decent size and has a good selection of stock. This includes knickknacks, books, magazines, records, tapes and cds as well as clothes, shoes and tons of kiddies toys. I realise, there is still some stigma attached to charity shops and I imagine, this is especially the case when it comes to children's books and toys. Which is a real shame because they do have some really nice and reasonably priced stock in here. Luckily, I don't know anyone with young kids, so this is something I can't take advantage of - but if you do, it's definitely worth a look. Other items to look out for in here have got to be sensible, good quality work clothes and - the odd time - shoes. Not all sparkles and excitement, I know. But I do have a real bug bare about spending loads of well earned cash on work clothes that immediately get shoved into the washing machine after a shift. Of course, it's not all about going buying mad; the other side of the coin if, of course, donating any unwanted items you have hidden under the bed. So pop along.

We were met with the smell: the one which would have lurked in the majority of charity shops a few years back; that unpleasant, ominous waft. Now, with the general quality of second hand shops greatly improved, there's no excuse for that whiff as you come through the doors. Whilst rag may not bring in huge profit to shops, it is still additional income, and the shop is all the better for quality control. - There is nothing more off putting to the second hand shopper than that dreaded smell. The shop was a little messy and chaotic which did not make for easy browsing. The staff member was also discussing personal issues on the phone and did not greet us in anyway. I think that if this shop got rid of poorer quality clothes as they come in, it'd be on its way to a third star. As it stands, it's a disappointing two.

Anyhoo, after my pasta and glass of wine for a fiver (see 1901 review...) I wandered past here. It is small but the character, charm and enthusiasm bundled up inside more than makes up for it. Admittedly, I didn't happen to buy anything and it's probably doubtful that you will either. Despite this, it really is worth a look for character, charm and a bit of banter alone. I'm amazed that I've only discovered - having lived in and around Shawlands for the best part of four years. So if you are a little partial to charity shops or quirky places, drop in.

I did notice that the prices were rather steep in comparison to the St. Margaret of Scotland Hospice across the road who have a stack of equally lovely furniture for a fraction of the price. For the past few months I've been hunting for a wooden box - and as luck would have it, Mr A spotted just what I was after in here, for a fiver. One quick visit later and it's on my fireplace. Most of the stock in here is kinda on the moderately priced side for a second hand shop, but it's worth a peruse.

I was in the area so made a point of calling in to see what stock they had in. It's not often that l see a modern well stocked & organised charity well this shop this one of those What did they have? There was rails of modern & vintage clothing with window displays that where thought out most items where vintage - retro & collectable small selection of jewellery in two display cabinets. There are shelves around the shop some had women's bags others had modern items but everything seemed like quality, there was no tacky ornaments or what l see as junk. Expensive? Well not really I've been to some charity shops and found others that I've been to very expensive and can source items that they sell cheaper brand new. The prices here where pretty good. I managed to pick up some collectable pint glasses at £1 each l also found a game controller for £4.99. This Bernardo's charity shop is a pretty good one and if you are looking for some good vintage items you would love this shop. Definitely be back.
