I have to admit I'm not a big fan of charity shops. I can never be bothered to sift through all the tat to find the odd gem that I know exist in these places. however, last week I was passing by the Oxfam in Moseley - not the book and music one, the general one... oh yes, there are 2 Oxfams on almost the same street - anyway, I'm walking past and I saw some really nice vintage cameras. I ended up buying an old Kodak, the Instamatic 133 - a camera from the 1960s - for just one pound! It's in great condition too, I don't even care if it works it just looks good!
Once I'd ventured in I had a mooch, they stock clothes, some house stuff and kitchen utilities, like mugs, tea glasses. Nothing else that really caught my eye but I'm sure there would be other neat little finds in there from time to time. The woman working there didn't offer any help, but I personally prefer this, especially in a store where you would clearly just be browsing and wouldn't go for something specific. Regardless, the store its so small that you won't need any help.
While it lacks in books and cds (just go over the road for those) you might be lucky enough to find some cool odds and ends, especially if you're the kind of person who digs rummaging around these places. read more
