Reason for the bad review. I wish I could give zero stars to the woman and man at the information desk on the second floor. I went into to do some research on my own mental illness. Not necessarily something I want to announce to a ton of strangers, but I needed help finding the section that offered those kinds of books. At the desk I grabbed the attention of this younger looking lady and asked her where I could find this book. She laughs and doesn't even try to help me, then looks over at the young man also working at the information desk and he laughs along with her, also not willing to help me. I've never felt so insecure in a public library before. Definitely not okay. So unprofessional.
Ok now for the good part, the older librarian witnessed this and found me sitting down and brought me the book I was looking for along with additional information. She brought a smile to my face after what felt so traumatizing. I hope she sees this and knows how amazing what she did was. It was just great customer service and her being a friendly community member, it made me feel better. Which is huge. I was really struggling this morning building up the confidence and will to go into a PUBLIC library and check out books on my specific mental illness and after today, I don't think I'll be going back. But I do thank her.
I will also be sending a letter to the library in hopes that this doesn't happen to anyone else. read more
