Unfortunately, over the past five years, the reliability and professionalism have declined significantly. My last five appointments have been canceled just days before I was scheduled to be seen because the provider would not be in the office. Five cancellations in a row is not an occasional scheduling conflict -- it's a pattern. Rearranging work schedules and personal commitments over and over, only to have appointments canceled at the last minute, shows a complete lack of respect for patients' time. After more than 15 years of loyalty, this is incredibly disappointing and unacceptable. I will be taking my care elsewhere.

It was my first time meeting her. The office staff was amazing; however, Dr. Straughn was not. She was rude, crude and more. After reading reviews from other patients, Dr. Straughn's rudeness seems to be consistent. We cannot ALL be wrong... I genuinely believe that as patients, we partner with our medical professionals in the furtherance of our medical care. She showed great disdain for me asking questions. I was really concerned about the growth on my jaw given that both of my parents had cancer. When I asked if there was a possibility of the growth being cancerous, she stopped, glared at me, and stated emphatically, "either you are going to trust me or you're not." It was at that moment I decided that I would not return to her for treatment. There was no way I could partner with her in my care.

I called up saying I was unsatisfied with my appointment and told another physician would call me and answer all questions. I had to call back 3 times to make sure they called me!! Whenever they actually did it was a nurse and not the physician I was promised and whenever I asked her questions she told me that was above her license to share. What idiots. I'll start by saying that the front office staff are absolutely the friendliest I have encountered in a very long time. First let me say that my appt. was for 9:50 and I was driving away at 9:56. ALL medical professional offices should really take a lesson from this practice first on friendliness, care and concern, and prompt care. First, Morgan was just the sweetest gal and is EXTREMELY knowledgeable and gentle while performing her job assisting Katherine Simmons. About Katherine, she is absolutely FANTASTIC performing her job and makes the visit painless. As I said above, all medical professional offices could stand to visit this office and take notes on the day-to-day movements and treatments of patients. If I thought it would make a difference, I would ask that both Morgan and Katherine receive a sizeable raise for the services that they provide making the patients quite comfortable and listening to the patients regarding issues they may have. In January I was a new patient at the watkinsville office. I went there to have three spots removed…read morefrom the left side of my face one of which is eating away at my eyebrow. Instead of removing them and then having a biopsy. They requested biopsy. Biopsy came back negative. Now my insurance company will not cover the removal because they claim it to be cosmetic. The doctor should have removed and if she insisted requested a biopsy now I'm stuck. Additionally I spoke to them about hair loss which I think is a part of my medication regime. I've never had an office make an additional appointment to discuss hair loss. Now I'm told that it will not be covered by my insurance because again the insurance considers it cosmetic. I honestly don't know whether it falls on Athens dermatology group or my insurance but I think there could have been something worked out that these situations would have been taken care of. Just now may 2025 I tried to reach the office and doing so I was connected with three, yes 3, different companies who took care of a different part of the practices business. I am very disappointed in the way this practice has gone downhill…read more Yesterday I received a notice that there is a ding on my credit report. After several phone calls I discovered it was from Tara dermatology from 2014. They have my current address on file and yet they NEVER sent me a bill. When I called the person I spoke with in billing had zero sympathy for my problem. You can just pay the $200 she said, it was because your insurance didn't pay it. You can call them. I don't remember going to the dermatologist in 2014, and I'm not really sure what insurance I had back then. It is really a shame that companies can do this to you without notice.
