Perched on a hill overlooking the Willamette River, Fremont Bridge with views of downtown Portland, this is the perfect spot to enjoy a sunset, when the sky is filled with various shades or red, yellow, orange and pink. It's breathtaking! Best views are by the Overlook Boulevard area. You will feel like you are walking through private property to get there, but it is a public entry point. There is a walking trail that goes around the park and passes behind the baseball fields. With a huge grassy section that includes off-leash areas for dogs. There is a water fountain, so bring a bowl for your pup, and they provide poop bags so there's no excuse to not pick up after your doh For the kids there is a play area with a jungle gym, swings, teeter totter and merry-go-round. And a basketball court. For those seeking shade, there is a covered picnic area, perfect for hot summer days, plus many trees to sit under. While the park is open from 5am to midnight, I tend to visit during the day or at sunset times when there are more people around. Too many camps nearby and I'm not comfortable being here on my own when it's dark. Not a lot of street parking since there is a residential area on one side with Kaiser across the street; can usually find a spot in one of their lots.

    Enjoying the scenery.

This park is beautiful. The trees are amazing to lay under and ppl watch. Met a cute lil dog named Roni.

Wow, wow, and wow is all I can saw about Overlook park. As mentioned in previous reviews, the best views of the Fremont bridge past the train yard are closer to the Kaiser Parking lot. We went on a clear day for sunset and it was gorgeous. The park is large and has a trail for walking, or you can frolic through the grass! The park has off-leash areas, which our dog loved. Please pick up after your pets! I would say most dog owners were great about that. There was plenty of free street parking next to the Kaiser. I would love to come back again and again.

This is a great park right next to the MAX stop that is named after it. There is lots of grass, some trees, a nice playground. a stone picnic shelter and if you go where the trees aren't blocking it there are some amazing views. The park doesn't have a lot of parking (unless you park in one of Kaisers lots) and as such is usually not very busy. To bad because it really is a nice park.

Decent sized park with a single path around a softball field & a baseball field. There's a pole for tether-ball, but there was no ball attached to it. Good sized playground, nothing crazy. Oddly enough, the view is mediocre from within the park. You're primary view seems to be of the train tracks & shipyard facilities below . To get that Overlook Park great view you need to go up to Overlook Blvd & encroach on what appears to be someone's backyard if not private property. There were quite a few spread out picnic benches & it looked like there was a couple of bathrooms in an old stone building that also provided shelter to a few more picnic benches. Nothing special, but it was a rainy Tuesday afternoon, so it's not like I expected frolicking in the meadow :D

Cleary not the best picture, but this is the dog park portion of the park looking out to downtown Portland.

I'm surprised no one has reviewed this and also surprised that the majority of people I speak to about this park have never heard of it... it's a great park! Overlook Park is perched up on the hill above the Willamette River in North Portland with expansive views of downtown from almost any corner of the park. Not only are there spaces for baseball, basketball and soccer but there is a jogging track, tether ball pole and I think space for volleyball. Next to all the sporting fields is a large kids play area with swings, jungle gym, teeter totter, merry-go-round and more! There is also a large covered picnic area to keep you shaded during the hot summer days or dry during drizzly fall BBQs. If you are interested in reserving it for a big party, I think you can do so by contacting the Portland Parks & Rec office. Down further from the picnic area is a summer wading pool as well as an off leash dog park (not fenced). The dog park has poop bags and a water fountain near by... but bring your own water bowl. The hours of the park are from 5am to Midnight however most of the park is not all that well lit at night making me feel a little uncomfortable to walk around late at night. There are also several events which are held during the summer here -- the biggest probably being the Organic Brewers Festival. I just moved in a block away so I am MORE THAN EXCITED for this event to take place! You can bet there will be a little shindig at my house before/after. Overall... the park is great for families, sports fans, dog owners, sun bathers and possibly even some "adults" (read: 22 year olds... 27 year olds, in my case!) looking for some late night drunky drunk fun on the merry-go-round and teeter totters! Go easy on the spinning though! Don't say I didn't warn ya! Only reason it gets 4 stars is because the dog area is not fenced. Fortunately, it IS off the main road and only near a quiet driveway into a parking lot. Most dogs tend to just stay on the lawn anyways, but if your dog has a tendency to run off... this may not be the best place to bring them. I've never seen more than 3 dogs here (including mine) at once but I've only been going for the past couple fall/winter months. I imagine it will be busier in warmer months.

So thankful there's an off-leash dog park so close to my motel!

Beautiful open space for kids and dogs to run around. As I was writing this, some kind of nut fell from the tree I'm standing under, I look up and there is a family of sweet squirrels saying good morning. Fully equipped children's play set, swing set, basketball hoop and baseball field. Lovely family touch to portland

Mount Tabor Park was long, long , long on my list for places to visit in Portland. After a recent…read moretrip to Portland we timed it where we could go here one morning and enjoy the scenery. We were not disappointed in the slightest! Most of the park is up on a hill which if I recall correctly is an extinct volcano. The reservoirs are very cool to look at and walk around at. We went to three of them and I believe that is the total number that aren't decommissioned but there once was five reservoirs here but two are decommissioned. The reservoirs were once used for drinking water but now serve primarily as a scenic and historic feature which it most certainly is! There is all kinds of paths you can walk around in and even minor hikes of a urban sort if you want to look at it that way as if you want you can walk uphill for quite a while. If you roam around the park you can see beautiful views of downtown Portland which is very enjoyable to see. I definitely recommend visiting this park and it has the appeal where it will attract tourists and locals alike as it is just that kind of a special place!

Mount Tabor Park Nature's Own Little Showstopper…read more Mount Tabor Park stands proudly in the heart of Portland, yet somehow feels like a secret escape tucked right under the city's nose. The moment you step onto the trails, you forget you're in a metropolis at all trees tower overhead like gentle giants, wind whispers through the branches, and everything smells like fresh air and freedom. On a busy day, this place absolutely fills up walkers, joggers, bikers, curious wanderers, and people who just came for the view but pretend they're "out exercising." The crowd doesn't ruin the vibe, though; it actually brings the park to life. Nature does the singing, and visitors add the harmony. The water reservoirs sit calmly along the hillside, shining like mirrors laid out to reflect the sky. They give the park this serene, cool presence as if the earth itself stopped to take a drink. And those little trails? They may not stretch for miles and miles, but they're perfect for exploring, stretching your legs, and clearing your head. Just enough adventure, just enough workout, and plenty of places to pause and think, "Dang, this is nice." And then you reach the top. The view of Portland is nothing short of jaw-dropping. A full, wide panorama of the city laid out beneath you. It's the kind of view that hits your brain like a reward like nature saying, "Congratulations, you made it. Enjoy the show." You're on a mountain smack in the middle of the city, yet you feel miles above it all. Million-dollar views in every direction, guaranteed. Riddle time: What mountain lets you see the whole city while barely breaking a sweat? Answer: Mount Tabor Park, of course. Whether you drive up, walk up, or roll up with your snacks ready, this place never disappoints. It's one of my all-time favorites a little oasis with a big personality, a peaceful escape with killer views, and an easy adventure anyone can enjoy. Mount Tabor Park is a must. Step in, look out, breathe deep, and let nature do its magic.
