The energy at Sleepy Hollow Farm is consistently off-putting. Today marked our fourth visit, and my…read morehusband and I have decided we will not return, nor will we allow our children to believe they should accept poor service, especially when we are spending our hard-earned money. We arrived in wonderful spirits, ready to select our Christmas tree, but were met with a cold, unwelcoming atmosphere that, unfortunately, has become familiar. The quiet, passive-aggressive cold-shoulder is loud in its own way, leaving us feeling uncomfortable and unwanted. We have continued coming because our children enjoy the farm, particularly in early to mid-autumn, but this experience sealed our decision. I would genuinely rather drive into the city and sit in traffic than return. To make matters worse, when we visited the animal-feeding area, the attendant shorted our change. After we kindly pointed out the miscalculation, he replied, "Oh, well I don't have any more change." I told him we would simply take additional cups of feed, and he looked at us as though we were unreasonable. Either the math was beyond him, or he assumed we would overpay. Perhaps I am too devoted to my quixotic, Hallmark-inspired hopes for the season, but this experience certainly did not contribute to the holiday warmth we arrived with. I do, however, want to commend the employee who tied our tree onto our SUV. He was the only pleasant member of the staff we encountered. We are happy with the tree itself, but we will now be searching for a new Christmas tree farm. Here's hoping next year brings a lovelier experience. Happy Holidays, everyone.

I was looking for a private experience for our family of 3 that doesn't involve a lot of crowds and where my daughter could have private time with animals and this place was perfect! I booked our experience directly through the website: (when you book, I advice you to do it as well to avoid additional fees) https://lostmountainalpacaranch.com/ I booked the 60 minute experience for our family and we were in for such a treat. The owners David and Tina were very welcoming, friendly, and very open to educating us about their farm, the lovely alpacas, their cats, and the super cute guard dog, Bodhi. During the private experience, we interacted with the alpacas and fed them their breakfast, our session was at 10am. We really enjoyed the stories the owners told us about the alpacas and the farm. I really loved the experience as it was just for our group and we throughly enjoyed it, I didn't have to worry about crowds and I wasn't rushed. Can't wait to see the alpacas again the next time we are in the area.

If you love flowers and plants but can kill one just by looking in its direction *raises hand in…read moreshame* the Metro Atlanta Urban Farm (MAUF) can give you a greener tomorrow. They've been turning brown thumbs green since 2009 at their operation in College Park on the MARTA line between the East Point and College Park stations. I'd passed by before without paying attention but I wish I'd known about them before today's MLK Day service project. During our orientation, Mr. Wilson explained that they teach people in the community how to grow their own food. Adults and children can get hands-on experience at MAUF that they can use to cultivate organic gardens of their own. They learn which vegetables to plant in each season and how to nourish the soil. They also get information about cooking and preserving/canning their produce. MAUF is focused on self-sufficiency and farming of high quality produce. Everything they grow is non-GMO and is free of hormones, synthetic pesticides and fertilizer and the majority of what they plant are heirloom seeds. They have a well onsite and they're in the process of going off the grid with solar power. They sell fresh, in-season fruits and vegetables to the public, including to several of the restaurants in the area. Low-income EBT and food stamp recipients can buy $20 worth of produce for $10 through their 2-for-1 discount program. I encourage everyone to support this organization's work to educate people in the Atlanta community and help them eat nutritiously. Today we pulled weeds inside the hoop houses, tended the compost pile and stained tables in furtherance of their mission. I plan to return (when it warms up) to learn how to grow some of my favorite veggies at home! There isn't much room for too much variety, but this visit they had spring carrots, french breakfast radishes, micro greens and lettuces, plus the most gigantic asparagus stalks I've ever seen. Gorgeous produce, really. Everything looked immaculate. Purchasing was easy enough after going inside Star Provisions to get someone to open up. They just gave me a handwritten slip for my goods and I took it inside SP to pay (so yes, they will take credit cards!).

A little pocket of a shop outside of Star Provisions, this place supplies seasonal organic produce. All of the items here looked like haute cuisine ingredients- absolutely gorgeous, high quality, hand-picked, clean, and organic. You can almost see the TLC put into these babies. The prices reflect it too, but none of them are high enough to be atrocious- I would say the produce here is amongst the highest quality locally sourced produce around. It really looked like a gardener's paradise. We saw organic multi-colored eggs, large but tender stalks of asparagus, miniature french breakfast radishes, all sorts of microgreens, heirloom tomatoes, baby carrots, artisan lettuces, seed packets, etc. Rustic, wholesome, hearty, beautiful.
