I love that they're a local health food store and I love to support local. I always get their veggie juice when I go to the farmer's market and we love their Italian bread. They're also one of the few places that carry Inko's tea and Kevita Kombucha. I also appreciate their deli with vegan and vegetarian options. The only problem I have with them is their quality control and cleanliness. Their produce looks pretty rough and I've seen bugs in their food case :( The store and shelves are always pretty dusty & dirty, and granted its in a very old building. I bought some of their peanut butter cookies today which I had to return because they were very bland and dry :( the girl told me that it was because they were baked with all natural ingredients like honey. I told her "yeah I eat stuff like this all the time, it's just not very good." Peanut butter & honey cookies are supposed to taste delicious I'm actually surprised that someone could mess that up :/ bummer! Anyhow, it's somewhere that I will stop on occasion to get some variety of things that whole foods doesn't carry. Like energy bars, chocolate bars, tea and jerky that can be hard to find. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area :)

Purchased some of their bread at a produce market on Perkins. It was amazing. Next time I'm in B R I will visit the bakery.

Excellent selection of herbs, supplements, pure juices, etc. I picked up a bag of sweet potato chips. Delicious.

This location was historically an open-air market, but was completely renovated with overhead doors that can be closed in inclement weather. They have more space, and more pleasant shopping conditions (especially during summer). Southside Produce isn't a farmers market, but they do sell local produce whenever available. When I was in today, they were showcasing local cauliflower, but also had some beautiful fresh Brussel Sprouts from a farm in California. Their fresh produce is always fresh and high quality regardless of its source. Another amazing area they have is the extensive frozen produce aisle. These include virtually every type of frozen vegetable and fruit. I also noted a selection of local meat products in the coolers, these included quite the selection of sausages! In the preserved products, Southside also has you covered. They have their own brand of pickled, jellied, and preserved foods of all sorts. They also sell other name brands. They have syrups and oils, and other similar products. This is an area that's expanded over the years, and is now quite extensive. Then there are the other products that one can find there. These include things like a significant selection of dried beans and rice, local bread products from a number of bakeries, and cypress furniture. In the right season, you can buy fruit trees to plant in your yard or garden. In all seasons, I recommend Southside as a great place to buy healthy and interesting houseplants. I am always amazed by their selection. Service is always great as well. Normally, one need only take their selections to the counter in the center to be rung up. Their registers accept all modern forms of payment including tap to pay (min $4 on credit cards though). If you need any other help, they will be glad to provide it. Everyone seems cheerful and pleasant. I've been going to Southside Produce for decades now. I felt it was overdue to write a review. It's one of those great Baton Rouge places that you need to visit on a regular basis. I stop by often when I'm in the area.

A 5.5 lbs ham, Mac n cheese, broccoli, mashed potatoes, rolls, and a cheesecake to finish it off. Absolutely delicious and between four adults, we quite literally ate it all. So easy to prepare and very quick. We didn't even really cook and clean up was super easy because the dishes that they come in are great to serve in too. When we ordered online, we prepaid and picked up at the store. The store was very clean and organized with overhead signs telling you what line to go in if you prepaid for your meal. They also had tons of add-ons you could buy. I really liked how the staff was festive, with the bunny ears, and there was a seamless system to pick up so we didn't have to wait long. Honey Baked Ham is the way to go!

But the reason for my visit was to get a pork bone and they run out quick when they have them but yesterday we were fortunate to get one. We arrived around 10:30--there were 2 customers ahead of us and when we left, 1 behind us. The gentleman behind the counter was as nice and pleasant and efficient as can be and his customer service is a reason you want to return. So, good product (food), nice atmosphere, efficient and pleasant customer service----this is 5 stars---woo hoo!
