Our Daily Bread is a bakery, organic food store, restaurant, and health product store all combined! It has been at its Florida Boulevard location for many years, but now also has a location at the Main Street Market Downtown. The Florida Boulevard location is the mothership though, where the baking and making occurs, and where the biggest selection of products can be found. I think they have a fine line of their own branded vitamins, supplements, and even preserves. I take their vitamins and a supplement on the daily, and I know they are the right formulas because these folks pay attention to the products that bear their name. You can find whatever vitamins, minerals, herbs, and other supplements you might want, in various brands and formulations. Then there are the groceries and food products, it is a full-fledged old-school health food store. You can buy everything you might need here, in a nice small local store, run by friendly and helpful people who want to connect you with products that are good for you. It seems a better place to buy things that you need. But that's not all folks! Remember the name is Our Daily Bread, and boy do they have that as well as other baked products to enjoy. They have healthy hearty breads, from sweet to savory, in various forms from loaves to po-boy buns. Then there are cookies, muffins, and carob bars! So much baked goodness to choose from. And in recipes that are good for you, without all the additives and preservatives. Then there are the prepared foods. These include a soup of the day (roasted root veggie is my favorite), sandwiches made with their breads, and salads. Just started to frequent the store this year after a friend letting me know that they carried one of my favorite but hard to find drinks. I love that they're a local health food store and I love to support local. I always get their veggie juice when I go to the farmer's market and we love their Italian bread. They're also one of the few places that carry Inko's tea and Kevita Kombucha. I also appreciate their deli with vegan and vegetarian options. The only problem I have with them is their quality control and cleanliness. Their produce looks pretty rough and I've seen bugs in their food case :( The store and shelves are always pretty dusty & dirty, and granted its in a very old building. I bought some of their peanut butter cookies today which I had to return because they were very bland and dry :( the girl told me that it was because they were baked with all natural ingredients like honey. I told her "yeah I eat stuff like this all the time, it's just not very good." Peanut butter & honey cookies are supposed to taste delicious I'm actually surprised that someone could mess that up :/ bummer! Anyhow, it's somewhere that I will stop on occasion to get some variety of things that whole foods doesn't carry. Like energy bars, chocolate bars, tea and jerky that can be hard to find. At Our Daily Bread Cafe, the juices, produce, flour, milk, and many of the ingredients used throughout the menu are organic and most of the menu items are scratch-made in-house. That includes bread and baked goods. They also offer many vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. I arrived after lunch hours, therefore the menu was limited. I ordered the house-made soup of the day which was Roasted Root Vegetable. The soup, served with a side of almond crackers, was quite tasty, hearty, and filling. The cafe food at Our Daily Bread is pretty clean, mostly housemade, and very reasonably priced. read more

I know this place is known more for its bread and lunch/sandwich counter, but I wanted to add that they have an excellent selection of vitamins, supplements, and tinctures. They have the best selection I have seen outside of a dedicated vitamin shop and its the only place I have seen in years with tinctures. I bought a good selection of vitamins and an anti-viral tincture for cold sores. Prices are reasonable. I have not had lunch here, but after reading the other reviews I will do so soon. I did buy some bread and it was very good. The only complaint I would make is that I would have expected a bit more different varieties of bread since that is what the store is known for, but it is a small place. Pretty much a run of the mill small health food store EXCEPT: They have a full deli with plate lunches, mostly vegetarian/vegan, without a doubt the healthiest cooked food available for purchase in Baton Rouge. Also need to mention that, as the stores name implies, they have a bakery and their bread is some of the finest I've had from here to San Francisco. All 100 percent stone ground whole wheat. I was in Baton Rouge for a conferance where the catering people did not understand the word Vegan. After three meals of getting back a worse meal than the original, I left and found this little piece of heaven. You can so easily miss it. Thank God for yelp. I went twice in my three days. The food was fabulous and the option were many. The help was sweet, except for the first day, there was a preoccupied older guy who seemed inconvenience to help me get a sandwhich in the deli area, but it was worth the sandwhich. My next visit allowed me the chance to get a tofu burger that was awesome. So if you are ever in Baton Rouge and need REAL WHOLE FOOD....this is the place.. read more

Now this is a neat little health store/bakery. There is a good selection of food items for the more health-conscious of persons. When I try something from the bakery it's almost 100% guilt-free because I know it's made from natural ingredients. I even enjoy days at The Farmers Market downtown when I head indoors and get to purchase some sweet treats from Our Daily Bread. It is slightly pricey however this food here does the body good so I don't mind paying more for better food. read more

Excellent excellent food. The best part is it tastes great and it's actually very healthy for you. The bread is delicious. The only thing is I wanted salt and couldn't find any but that shouldn't deter you from coming here. It's totally a natural remedies environment and the people are chill and pleasant. Stumbled upon this gem in passing. So glad I did! I ordered the Greek pita pocket and it was AMAZING! Shopped around while I waited and the prices are very reasonable. Was able to find a few things I needed. The person taking my order at the restaurant was super friendly and let me sample several items I had questions about - that was a great first impression and excellent customer service. The cashier, however, lacked personality and knowledge about most things in the store. This detracts from the typical uplifting health food enthusiast vibe I usually experience in these types of stores. Would still recommend. Great selection. Great food. Great prices! read more

Bread's good, pastries(cupcakes) blueberry and chocolate were bad enough not to finish- the chocolate was loaded with coffee. The package of blueberry muffins were loaded with cinnamon, regular cinnamon which can be toxic in those amounts. Cinnamon wasn't even listed as an ingredient on our pack of four so it was quite surprising. Our lentil and kale soup came out cold, but we waited long enough and didn't want to make a fuss so we took it home. We also ordered a quart of cabbage for new years that was apparently short. I brought this up to the two guys checking us out, and the older gentlemen just responded' "so what, you think it's short?!", and that was that. What an awesome way to run a business. Also wanted to purchase a few other things but they were either expired on the shelf or spoiled. Haven't had a good experience since coming here and today will be the last. I love supporting small businesses, but this one is lacking- from the food, to the service; this one is quite subpar. Whole foods beats them in price, quality, and service by far. Was hoping to support local and not a corporation, but we've wasted too much money in our quest to find something that would redeem this place. ODB definitely has tons of potential and I hope they get their kinks out if they truly want to be successful. read more
