Before Namste opened in Middletown, I used to go here to shop. They didn't always have what you needed, and the products they did have were from inferior brands. They have a "reward" policy that is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. I don't remember the exact numbers, but after spends Ng something like $500, they gave you $10 credit. The store was always dirty. Your shoes got stuck on the sticky floors. Their prices are a little higher than larger Indian stores. My friends catered from their take out restaurant, and the food was tasty. I just don't trust the hygiene in the kitchen.

This is a smaller, but well-supplied farm stand, a REAL farm stand, on Bunker Hill Road in…read moreMiddletown. You turn right on Bunker Hill from 301 heading South, or you continue on Main Street (299) at the big intersection with 301 near Wawa and Lowes. About 3 miles down the road, on the right is a flag and you drive down a gravel drive to the farm stand behind strawberry fields and corn fields. The Filaskys grow table corn "John's Corn" which is sweet and delicious and always very fresh. They also have strawberries, including u-pick in season. The rest of the farm stand has jams, preserves, local and non-local produce and Woodside Ice Cream, which is a locally made dairy ice cream that is incredibly rich and good. My favorite items are the corn, tomatoes (perhaps not as good as the famous Jersey tomatoes) and their zucchini. One year, they grew a gray variety that was incredible, but I haven't seen it since. Perhaps gray zucchini didn't resonate with buyers but the squash is always very good. Peaches are also local, Delaware being a peach growing state that lost its status as a US Peach Capital after the Yellow Peach Blight of the early 20th Century. But you can still see the "peach mansions" in Middletown's pretty downtown area and off 301. In season, you will find flats of annuals and perennials. These are very healthy; I still have a clump of dianthus I bought a decade ago, going strong, and the begonias and impatiens are particularly good. The selection will depend on the growing season. This is a pretty spot, on a pretty road heading into Maryland and worth a detour, if you like farm stands. Just, have a cooler with ice handy because you'll really want to bring some Woodside vanilla ice cream home with you.

But that doesn't bother me, and it was clean and had no particularly strong smells. The place had a very good variety of not just spices and aromatics, but also carried halal food as well as Hindu ceremonial items. Some items of note are fresh chilis, a very good assortment of spice blends, ghee as well as oils, and some decent packaged cakes and decent frozen food. I got myself my curry powder, some spice blends for murghi and korma, and am now happily set for my days I feel like curry, or just plain baked chicken with good spice blends. The man running the register is very nice, talkative, and quite helpful as well. Has some fun stories too. It's honestly criminal that this place isn't on the map, especially given it's in a pretty convenient location further south than the nightmare that is the I-95/Rt 13 Traffic Nightmare. It's right near Pizza di Napoli if you need a bit more guidance, since most maps seem to not have them in their database. All in all, it's a great place if you need ingredients or specifically need halal items or just want to dine on decent frozen dinners. Will go again as needed.
