A colleague and I are in town on business, and Zum Baren is about 20 yards from our lovely Airbnb…read moreapartments. It's a really convenient location in a town without much else going on, so it was a pleasant surprise when it turned out to be an excellent family-run restaurant. We have eaten here for lunch and dinner, weekdays and weekends, probably a total of ten times over the last two weeks, and it never disappoints. We've had delicious pork knuckles, pork roasts, trout, steaks, veal, venison, everything. The potato dumplings (personal favorite) are perfect, and the green salads are always fresh and tasty. They only seem to offer two beers, which is a shame, but the wine selection is full of tasty local wines that go perfectly with the food. Pricing is very reasonable. Atmosphere in the main dining room is good, but for the best experience, ask for a table in the old stone cellar.
Pros: THE FOOD, wine, service, value
Cons: very little English among the staff, no credit cards
