I wish I paid attention to Lori B.s review of this extremely unprofessional man who calls himself a…read morehealthcare provider. When an adult patient complains of pain it should be taken seriously every time. I have complained of intense pain due to improper treatment and every time I am yelled at and dismissed. I started treatment May 2021 and now look at my teeth. I'm not sure if this doctor has gotten his bifocals checked in the last several years but this is not improvement this is backtracking and making more issues and problems with my bite and teeth. This man subjected me to a dimpling procedure as he calls it which caused me significant pain and inability to talk. During the procedure numbing agent got down my throat and I was unable to breathe and swallow. I was choking up blood in the office because I could not swallow or feel my tongue. The ordeal was traumatic. Every time I come into this a office the doctor Damas ignores my concerns for pain and laughs. I've only been seeing this doctor for a year and it feels like several the way I am dismissed and continuously sent home to deal with the chronic pain I am enduring from my teeth being moved out of the bone due to a fixed palate expander that should have never been put on or used with Invisalign but I trusted the doctor who claimed to have investigated my case and discussed it with colleagues. Instead 33 weeks into liners using them full time and every single one of my teeth has chipped and cracked and I can't even eat or chew. I am gumming food and dropped down to 100 pounds. The main reason I came to this doctor was my bite being off and wanting to finally be able to chew and eat. All of these unnecessary procedures and pain have accomplished the opposite and on top of that that doctor is aggressive and violent in the office when I try to express my concerns. I am an adult with a nursing and medical school degree and background but this man talked down to me as if I were a child. The most recent visit when trying to describe my pain and chipped teeth I was screamed at by the doctor. Dr. John Damas leaned into my face within less than an inch while I was laying down in the chair. Neither one of us had masks on and he pointed directly in my face screaming at me that I'm not listening to him "Lia, you're not listening!" Trying to tell me the liners are working as I am saying my face is not midline, all my teeth are in pain and are coming too far out of my gum line to be functional. In less then one year I went from having a nice profile to being unrecognizable not to mention in constant agony and pain. All I wanted was a refund because for the last year I have been ignored and dismissed when discussing my pain and inability to eat. During this process no one should be having difficulty eating chewing or speaking. I have no quality of life since this poor treatment because I've had to take off so much work for pain from speaking. I never thought one person could ruin your life so drastically and not even take an ounce of accountability to try to fix the issue. I've tried to be patient and discuss my concerns but Dr.Damas is unreasonable and unsafe. I felt so threatened and intimidated by him bending down into my face and yelling at me. I have not had anyone that close in my personal space or since before COVID. My mom does not even get that close to me. Dr. Damas was trying to use his 6 foot tall demeanor to threaten and intimidate me into continuing treatment while I'm in constant pain. Instead of listening to me he decided to yell at me and tell me, the patient, what I am feeling or experiencing. You can see for yourself the small photos are recent and my teeth where Dr.Damas attached a fixed palate expander for too long, busted those teeth out of my jaw and gum line. It is so painful. Every one else has said this is malpractice. See the results for yourself. I wish I believed this poor young girl who had to endure the same abuse I did. No one should be in constant pain and no follow up X-rays or imaging has been done. That is malpractice. Save your money and go to a real orthodontist.

Dentists like Dr. Akhras are hard to find. After a painful botched filling gone wrong with my…read moreprevious dentist I spent months trying to find another dentist who would be willing to fix my tooth. I was in an immense amount of pain that other dentists tried to convince me was "in my head" and that "whatever you're feeling will go away in a few days". Well, those "days" turned to weeks, which turned into months and I was still in pain! I was frustrated and losing hope that none of the other dentists I went to were even listening to me! That's when I stumbled upon Dr. Akhras. One of my friends had highly recommended him to me, saying that his work ethic and his rapport with patients is unmatched. I didn't believe it after the slew of horrible dentists I had gone through in the last few months, but I thought to myself, "What do I have to lose? I'll give this dentist a shot." When I had first walked into Dr. Akhras's office I was immediately impressed by how cordial the members of his staff were to me. I arrived a little early, but his staff was able to accommodate me. After filling out paperwork I waited only a few minutes before I was ushered to one of the exam room. This was a rare occurrence for me as I'm used to waiting over half an hour with bitter and cranky receptionists. A few moments later Dr. Akhras came in. Dr. Akhras was warm and friendly, and unlike other dentists I had been to I did not feel rushed! I proceeded to give him a 15 minute cliff-notes version of the tooth-nightmare I had been living for the last several months, and he was incredibly patient. Like I said, I did not feel rushed. He did not interrupt me to get to the "actual dental issue" I had been having. He listened patiently to my grievances. And when it came time for me to ask him questions, he was knowledgeable, and seemed to have an abundant supply of patience with my never-ending amount of questions. After my side of the story and a quick (yet thorough) inspection and exam of my teeth and a few xrays, he was able to figure out what was wrong with my teeth. Long story short, I needed a root canal and crown done to fix the previous dentist's botched work. I will say that I had never gotten either a root canal or a crown done, but I have heard the horror stories. However, with Dr. Akhras, at least for me, none of those horror stories turned out to be true. Both procedures were done quickly and painlessly. And even after the procedures were done Dr. Akhras had called and followed up with me in the days after to see how I was doing because he understood how scarred I was from my negative experiences from the previous dentists. I very highly recommend Dr. Akhras. He's my main dentist now. Unlike the other dentists I had been to he doesn't look at you like a "bag of money", nor does he rush you. He takes his time with each patient, and gives them the respect that they each deserve.

I had an appliance made by him which cost $3,800 and he claimed that the insurance company would pay for it. I am on Medicare and Blue Cross. He lied. His office is NOT a Medicare provider and they had no idea on how to file a claim. It took me 2 years of filing appeals to Medicare to finally get it paid. The office manager helped but obliviously she never filed a Medicare claim before. What makes it worse one year later my general dentist found 5 cavities under my crowns. So after $5,000 in new crowns my $3,800 appliance wont fit. The Doctor at Get it Straight didnt care and claimed it wasn't his responsibility to know if there were cavities there before he made the appliance. He did take a full mouth x-ray. I pleaded with him to split the cost with until I got something from the insurance but he refused. I am on a fixed income so it was really hard. Bottom line is he didn't care just so he got his money. He mostly does braces so beware. I question his integrity. His office manager was really nice.

When I arrived, they took X-rays and the dentist came in, but instead of focusing on the cleaning I had booked, he spent most of the appointment trying to push orthodontic treatment. He made several comments about my "large teeth" and crowded mouth that felt unnecessary and condescending. It didn't feel like a consultation. it felt like a sales pitch. When I explained that I wasn't interested in orthodontics and just wanted the cleaning I had scheduled, I was told they couldn't do a regular cleaning and that I needed a deep cleaning due to gum disease. This was surprising, as I get cleanings 3-4 times a year and had my last one less than four months ago. Despite explaining this, he insisted a regular cleaning wasn't an option. I ended up leaving and driving to my previous dentist, where I received a routine cleaning and was told I do not have gum disease. Overall, the visit felt more focused on upselling than patient care, and I won't be returning.
