Not the hotel's fault per say, but just a drag to get to. When we arrived, I asked the front desk attendant to please give us a room that was quiet since we were so tired and could hear the construction from outside all around us. I was a little hesitant that we would get the worst room since we made the reservation on Expedia, a 3rd party site. Don't know why I would think that, but I did. Sometimes I feel like this when I go on those types of sites, but Expedia is so convenient since it is a one stop shop for flights, hotel, rent a car that it seems silly not to use it, right? We were given a room on the 2nd level. when we entered, we were appalled. The bathroom was dirty and the towels were thin and worn and some of the fixtures were so wobbly that they fell off, the carpet stained and dirty, the view, forget about it--might as well be in a cave, and the door didn't even lock properly. It was awful and I couldn't believe that for the DOUBLETREE, that a room like that could even be released for occupancy! We felt like we had no choice as we were tired and just wanted to hang our hats. We asked for a different room, but they denied us and said that that was what they had. Of course, I didn't believe it. My husband complained again because the electricity went out in the room. The next day we told them that this was unacceptable and that we would not take that room. We left and continued our vacationing at a different hotel in a different town for the 5th. The hotel later called us and told us they would move us to the 6th floor and when we returned on the 6th (Sunday) late evening, we had a much better room, but still no 4 stars, in my opinion. The staff was very nice that evening and I think they tried to make up for some of the inconvenience, but still...this hotel should not be a 4 star rated hotel....truly. I can't give it more than 2 stars. Also the "free" wifi was useless. I couldn't get on it to use it.

There was an overpriced minibar that I would avoid. The staff was helpful and spoke fluent English. There's an indoor pool and a restaurant but I didn't use either. The executive lounge on the 30th floor is nice. The internet in my room was quite fast though I think a bit pricey. There are many many restaurants and stores within walking distance of this hotel. I think this place is expensive by Izmir standards but inexpensive by US standards. There are other nice hotels in the area that might also be worth checking out. But I would likely stay here again because I can't really think of any reasons not to.

Staying at a boutique hotel in a city you have never been to can be risky, but Key Hotel exceeded all our expectations and beyond! My husband enjoys nice hotel rooms and suites and we have stayed in very nice rooms over the past couple of years but I have to say this was by far the best!. It was so chic and modern, our room was 560 sq feet and the balcony must be about 300 sq feet. We had remote controls to fold/ unfold the blinds, dim the lights, set alarms etc. Since we were taking the tour to Ephesus the next day, we set alarms for early morning, when the alarms went off the blinds opened as well. It was super cool! The bathroom! Very big bathroom, very modern. Highlight was the rain shower and the Jacuzzi! The view was breathtaking! An unobstructed view of the sea, there is a strip mall on the harbor less than a 5 minute walk away. Its a very quiet and refreshing place and the staff was extremely polite. One of the best things about staying at a small boutique hotel is that since there are such few rooms, you are treated like royalty! :) I highly recommend staying at this hotel!
