A tarted up shadow of its former self. What's left of the original decor is hidden behind countless taped up posters, signs and standing displays - to the point where it looks like a teenager's bedroom or a college dorm. I like movie posters, but you're bombarded with them practically everywhere you look. It's beyond overkill. The actual movie experience on nearly every screen is compromised by the dim projection and because they're mostly in oddly shaped rooms where sightlines take a lower priority to capacity and traffic. Before you watch a movie here, pull up the trailer for that movie on your phone. If the picture on the movie screen is not as bright, sharp and clear as the picture on your phone, there is definitely something wrong. The most common causes are leaving the 3D filter on for non-3D movies, using worn out projector bulbs beyond their expiration date, and running the bulbs at less than full capacity. My guess is all three happen here. The screen wall should be free of distraction, not competing with a ramp to an exit door, especially if that ramp pushes the screen up to an uncomfortable sightline. Worst is #6 where the seats face straight ahead, but the screen is angled oddly to the left. I understand why it was done - a bad choice years ago - but it's no longer necessary, and the result is an awkward asymmetrical sightline. Also, the blue lights on the stairs are 10 times brighter than they need to be. The glare in your eyes increases your chance of tripping, (I did, and the guy in front of me, too). The floor lights reflect on the screen, washing out the picture contrast with a blue glow throughout the movie. Not a premium experience. The main room is very sad. The once beautiful atmospheric sky ceiling shows peeling paint and water damage, the original stage looks like a basement with some kind of pipes or partially dismantled metal framework hanging over the screen. The staff are generally nice except when they're not, seats are comfortable but worn out. Popcorn is pricey but decent. It's bafflling that the theatre got a huge financial grant from the city and instead of repairing the main room and so many other details, they wasted money on things like planters outside. Saving labor by eliminating the box office and selling tickets at the concession stand can stall your access to seating, because you have to wait while everyone in front of you gets their snacks. Asking an unoccupied person behind the counter to pause whatever he's futzing with and sell you a ticket so you can move on gets a curt refusal. I'd like to see this place - and the usually nice folks who work there - succeed and thrive, and I still like the idea of going out to a movie, but for the most part, this place isn't likely to draw me away from the brighter, sharper picture on a halfway decent TV screen, except for an occasional event movie that I'd want to see when it comes out. That will still look much better when it's available to view at home. read more

Made a birthday party reservation for today (4/5) two weeks ago. Confirmed the reservation this past Thursday. My wife showed up today before the movie and they had NO RESERVATION for her. Very stressful moment for her as my son's friends were getting dropped off and there was nothing she could do. Shame that the only theater within 30 miles is run so poorly. Ended up scrambling up to Destiny. Kids had a good time! Won't make that mistake booking Oswego Cinema again... read more

Very poor customer service, they wanted to hold my purse after I showed them what was inside my purse. I refused and they threatened to refuse service so I asked for a refund and left. The employees there are very clearly NOT happy to be working there and I'm amazed it's even still open. read more

Totally understand "no outside food", but when you have a child with food allergies and can't get them anything from the snack bar so you bring them something, only to have your purse searched (is this common now?), everyone else gets a snack and they don't. When I expressed my concern about that, the employees were very defensive, likely due to having to deal with irate customers, I get it, yet I couldn't even state my complaint. Theaters are too cold, shivered through the whole movie. Really want to support our hometown theater as I love the ambiance, but didn't have the best experience. read more

I've been going to this theater since it was called "The Oswego 1 & 2" and tho it's rough around the edges it's a great place to see a movie. You can see the original Art Deco style peeking thru and I hope one day they get funding to restore it all. read more

While not the latest and greatest of everything which seems to be offered by more recently constructed movie theaters, there is a lot to love here. The concession stand has plenty of helpful and friendly folks waiting to indulge your snacking needs. We really love the recently renovated main theatre seats that are now power leather recliners. Here's hoping they equip the secondary theaters similarly in the near future. The picture quality and sound were great, and the Art Deco interior in the main theatre has lost much of its luster, but is visible in other little details through the building. All told, the Oswego 7 stands as testament to a much different era in Oswego and the rest of the United States. read more

I go to this theatre a lot and it's not horrible, but it definitely needs to be up to date. The chairs aren't always plugged in or working which is aggravating. the bathroom stall doors are very short, so tall people i suggest not to use them. they're normally good with the food but last time i was there my pretzels were hard and cold when i got them. read more

Why have reclining g chairs if they aren't connected to any power? Very uncomfortable when they don't recline. Stood in line to buy a bottle of water. Few people went in front of me. Nothing was said. I was next & a cashier opened so I started to walk over. Employee with a red beard & mustache told me I can't just "jump" in line ahead of others. I wasn't! I just went back to my seat with nothing to drink for a 3.5 hour movie. 33 degrees & they had the air conditioner & ceiling fans on. Miserable trip to the show. Will never go there again. read more

LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT. It is like going back in time, less expensive, much more quaint. Friendly staff, GOOD popcorn and POWER RECLINERS to sit comfortably. There were about 5 movies playing, at good intervals, we walked in off the street and found something starting within 20 minutes. Great Theater! Love the old school look! Well maintained and not bad prices, less than the large chains! The new chairs are amazing. Almost fell asleep during the movie because the chairs were so comfortable, and the movie wasn't that great. haha. Large leather recliners that fully recline and have foot rests. If this wasn't the only theater for 27 miles, I wouldn't go here at all. The one decent thing I can say about this place is the tickets are reasonably priced. That's about it. However, the accommodations make me rethink that statement. Compared to a Regal theater, the tickets are cheaper but you get what you pay for. The bathrooms on both levels look like they haven't been cleaned in forever. I feel when the toilets and urinals were purchased, the thought was the maroon and black combination would hide the fact they haven't been cleaned. It's disgusting in there. The stall doors don't latch and the faucet has to be held with one hand while you wash the other, otherwise the water will go off. Another travesty concerning this place is the projection in the main auditorium. I've seen many movies in all the auditoriums in the building but the one that hosts the most popular movie of any given week is Theater 2, directly behind concession. I assume they do this because it's their biggest theater. Every time I've seen a movie in that theater (for at least 3 or 4 years now), the picture has been so dim that it's resulted in me having a headache. It wasn't until I had it pointed out to me by a friend what the reason is for the darkness of the picture. The employees have left the 3-D filter on their projector for non 3-D movies, resulting in a split of double image on the projector room window. Back in November, I took my sister and mother to see "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them". We could barely hear it and the picture was so dim that we had to strain our eyes. When I said something to the employees at concession, they said there "wasn't anything" they could do and offered a refund. I refused, saying the movie was half over and I'd deal. A couple of months later, I took them both to see "La La Land". Turned out it was in the same theater. Within the opening shot of the movie, I could tell the picture was way dark again. I walked out, spoke to the people at concession again but this time the manager (Cole, I believe) was there. He was incredibly dismissive, telling me that he'd seen the movie already and the cinematography is dark. Anyone that's seen "La La Land" should realize how this is a lie. I said the 3-D filter is likely causing the picture discrepancy. He said it wasn't on and never is when a movie isn't 3-D. I explained the split image on the projector room glass and he told me that they can't take off the 3-D filter, immediately contradicting himself. I said, "I thought you just said you always take it off?" He said, "Do you want your money back?" I refused again and now I try avoiding seeing movies in the main theater. It's hilarious considering the manager is so averse to anything resembling customer service that he'd condescend and lie to a customer in front of his employees. I've begun driving 27 miles out of my way to see movies. I waste my time and gas because it's better spent places besides Oswego Cinema. The other theaters are okay as far as their projections go. The seats are nice if you don't sit in one that's broken. The employees don't seem to do any preventive maintenance or maintenance in general on anything in the building. One of the safety railings leading upstairs was broken in two and wrapped in duct tape. When I told an employee about it, he said it'd be fixed. Later on, new duct tape was placed around it and it still hasn't been properly fixed. It's really awful considering the building is a historical landmark but it's treated with such disrespect, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if it collapsed in the next couple of years. It's an awful thing to consider but the way it's being managed currently, it's a distinct possibility. read more

Not a nice place to relax. Theatre is in rough shape, even for a historical landmark. Everything needs updating, screens, sound and definitely the seating! I think they haven't updated due to them having a captive audience (nothing else around for 45 minutes). Plus you can hear other movie sounds during your movie. read more

They upgraded the down stairs theaters that are great hope they upgrade the upstairs. Only down side is the college kids drinking beer in the back. read more

The downstairs theater has awesome recliners making your viewing experience feel like your at home. Ticket prices are very reasonable.
