We've had an amazingly positive experience at Oswego. Our daughter loves both of the teachers (Lindsey and Vicki) and had grown so much just in her first year of preschool. The teachers plan fun activities for the kids that vary based on the seasons and time of year, she always comes home saying she had a great day at school. The school requires quite a bit of parent involvement which has been something to get used to but it's also nice to be around other families who care as much about their kids' school environments. Would definitely recommend this as a great place to send your kids! read more

Oswego Playschool is truly a special place, I've never met teachers more excited, nurturing, and caring for the development and wellbeing of preschool aged kids. The parent involvement is paramount to the community at this school, and the relationships we've built in our two years here are lifelong friendships (parents, teachers and children alike)! It is a bittersweet feeling to be moving on next year to kindergarten, but I also feel our daughter is so well prepared for what's next thanks to teacher Vicki, and Lindsey, along with all of the other lovely parent teacher helpers that we've met along the way. read more

I just finished 2 years at this wonderful school and I am sad to say goodbye. It has been such a wonderful experience for my family. We moved here in 2021 with no family or friends in the area and we have been so blessed to join such a kind and involved community. We will be moving on to kindergarten next year but we will take our memories and new found friends with us. I highly recommend this preschool if you are looking for a play based school that fosters a love of learning with 70 years of experience. This is a co-op which means you get to help out in the classroom and watch the kids really blossom. It does take a bit of a commitment but it is so worth it! read more

We've been at Oswego Playschool since Spring 2019 and it's the sweetest school! My son went through the 2 and 3 day classes with Teacher Phoebe and Teacher Teenie and my daughter has been in both the parent & me Tots program and 3 day with Teacher Phoebe. We love the community, the parent involvement and the part time schedule. As a SAHM, I wanted my children to have the socialization from preschool, but without the full time schedule. My kids love the art and creative projects they get to do - plus, they get to run off a bunch of energy in the school's spacious backyard/playground rain or shine! read more

We are so grateful for this school. Joining OP is like gaining 15 new families that are positively involved in yours and your child's life. It's outstanding. Our teacher, Teacher Phoebe, who currently Teaches the three-year-old two day class, is exceptional. She has a great relationship with our child, and all the other ones in class. We are truly blessed to have her as a teacher. As a mother of four of her own, you can tell that she knows exactly what needs to be sent to redirect, and teach, your child to be inclusive, kind, and most of all to use play in order to advance their learning. Teacher Phoebe also teaches the tots class, which from others, we have heard is wonderful exposure for kids to the classroom as well. Teacher Teenie (Beatrice), Is a legend. Kids flock to her, and she knows exactly what to say, and exactly what to do, in order to help them learn, focus, and improve themselves. She is in charge of the three day, four-year-old class. We currently have one child enrolled at the school, and our youngest can't wait till she gets to go in too! Parent involvement is heavy, and you are required to do specific numbers of hours of volunteer service. We have found that this makes you more invested in the classroom, and it is invaluable, because it shows your child The importance of the classroom, and teaches them ownership of their own school. Each parent is given a job and Although they are the point person, everybody in the school makes a point to be involved. We feel blessed to be a part of it! Our daughter looks forward to her two day class with such anticipation and excitement! She has grown considerably while attending, both in terms of learning a classroom format as well as with the self confidence and self sufficiency promoted by the learning style. We started our oldest son here at age three and we couldn't be more pleased with the impact it has had on him individually and our family as a whole. This is an amazingly nurturing and supportive atmosphere of teachers and families who truly care about each other and each child. Our son has blossomed under Teacher Teenie's guidance. He is the kind, gentle-hearted boy he's always been but his cautiousness has been replaced with mindfulness and confidence. He already shows an ability to listen to his own inner voice and to speak his mind without trampling on others'. He has met many amazing kids here and describes everyone in class as his 'best buddy'. He loves coming to school and LOVES Teacher Teenie. Teenie is a one-of-a-kind preschool teacher who has an unending supply of love, patience and empathy for the children she works with. She is a magnet for the children-they are drawn to her and each morning when she opens the door every child flocks to her where she sits to greet them each and welcome them to a new day of fun and exploration. We will be back for another year with our oldest and two more after that with our younger son!! We love this school and the community it creates! read more

We are getting ready to register our 3rd child for the2day program at Oswego Playschool! We have been here for over 4 years now, through the Parent & Tots program, 2day class and 3day class. This place is magic! We have had the most incredible experience - our children learn and grow and feel so comfortable at school. The teachers are absolutely wonderful, amazing, caring, and supportive human beings that I just treasure. I love being able to help in the classroom and experience my children's early education with them. To watch them play, imagine, create, explore, discover, and work together is amazing. I will cherish this time forever. We have built relationships & friendships I know will last a lifetime. The community is inclusive and loving and everything we could have hoped for. My daughter Ruby has been attending this wonderful school since the parent-tot program! She is now in the 3 day class! Next year when she is in Kindergarten we will miss the warm loving comfort of the school, the environment, and the teacher! Teacher Teenie is a dream. This is one special place. More than a preschool, its like family. Due to the nature of the co-op preschool model, you get to know the parents and kids really well. It is a joy to honor this age and be a part of my kids' schooling. Also, there is so much research that supports this play-based model. I've had two kids successfully transition to Kindergarten from co-op preschools, and my third is currently at Oswego Playschool. The teachers are top notch. Our son has attended Oswego Playschool for the past two years, and we as a family have had an incredible experience. It's a cooperative preschool, meaning that we as parents get to participate in our son's first educational experience. It's been an incredible way to meet other families and form connections that we would never have in a conventional drop-off preschool. The time parent helping in the classroom has given us an education too. The play-based curriculum has fostered creativity in a way I haven't seen in conventional academic settings, and our child has learned so many life skills like problem solving that I know will form a great base for his elementary education. We love Oswego Playschool! This is our third cooperative preschool as we have moved all over the west coast these last few years. OP has not disappointed. Choosing OP helped us establish a sense of community after moving to the Portland area. We have also gained more tools for our parenting toolbox.
